While I think the dragon helm looks cool, I would love to see some helmets based on ancient designs.

Actually you could probably say the dragon helm is based on an ancient helmet as well, since it sort of resembles a Corinthian helm.

Well, I don´t like desing either, but at least we will have a chance to modify our gear thru different parts, so we will be free of things that we don´t like. I think that this helmet is fancy, and I like much more things which looks less fancy and more badass, I really loved most if not all of the DA:O plate helmets and also some of the DA2.

The important thing is that we have a helmet toggle.

For me the "problem" with the helmet is that looks like doesn't follow the 'concept' of the armor.
It has mainly a rounded and spiky shape while some armor parts are the opposite, like the chest, arms and shins pieces...

It's a fantasy helmet (and the pauldrons) on an almost regular armor so it doesn't fit quite well (from my POV).

Yeah....a fantasy helmet that kills you if you nod

Or if someone whacks you on the back of your head.

I find nothing to complain about here. Those look badass.

I do agree that it's not suitable for other classes/races probably.

I'm not complaining just saying my opinion/POV and that's why I put problem between quotes/tildes.

Personally I would prefer armor closser to historical Viking armor + furs, especially for the Elven warrior.

Yeah, no prob. I just look at those pics, and think "badass".

Or maybe I just want the game to come out already. Anything pleases me at this point.  B)

Compared to DAO armors, DAI armors and designs look good to me. Inquisitor and Cassandra's armors are pretty much the only ones I've seen, and those two alone look better than any armors that were in DAO.

Although DAO is still my favorite (and the only DA series that I like) out of all DA, armors and characters all looked fugly as troll's toe nails.

So many posts... :P

Anyway, I like the design on the helmet, it looks great!

I was just hoping for mages to be able to wear circlets this time around.

I don't like the default dragon helmet either. It would look better on some villian IMO.

But there are other helmets in the game, which you can also craft, so who cares.

I'd like a decent hood or cowl for my mage. Anything but the condom hats from da:o...

guys, guys, girls... your forgetting one thing......

What will be the iconic starting gear helm for all classes that will be all hating on when we get the game, nevermind the end game armors hating, think about all the starting to middle armor sets that we will hate thru out the game...augh i am aleady getting happy that i got the deluxe  edition so i will have a different armor to wear rather than the ugly starting and middle tier armor sets

I actually love how it looks. Even on mage and rogue version (human male at least) it seems really great.

I just worried that it will actually give something like in Skyrim: the iconic and epic headgear on all the posters/trailer/promotional item is actually part of beginner's armour and will not be effective anymore after the first few levels. I just hope that this time we can choose the design but with super upgrades later on to make our actual favourite pieces great for any levels.

yeah i find that funny that the iconic skyrim helm in all things is the"best looking helm"{ there are some actual epic helms that use the same exact skin as the begining armor set that you get when you play the near end of the game}

I like the helmet, but have one question: if mages and rogues can wear an iron on plated helm, why can't they wear armor?

Also, would like to see masks in the game.

I guess the reasoning is they're not conditioned for heavy armor. Rogues need to move much more, and mages.. well.. maybe they don't like breaking a sweat. Heh /shrug

I for once will be hoping Zerofrost will do helm/armor mods for DA:I. That guy's modding skills are insanely good :)

It is no more elaborate than many historical helmets.

Okay, bear with me, I think this could be fun. Internally, whenever we have big discussions about visual designs we came up with a rule:

You are allowed to say that something sucks IF you provide at least one alternative that you think is better.

It helps to clear away the fog of vague personal opinion (or it can show that a dissenting voice has little to no taste and can therefor be ignored). It also helps to create a weather vane of the team's overall tastes and preferences. If you're down for playing along and following our rule, I'd be interested to see what everyone thinks works/doesn't work.

The inquisitor helm isn't the worst I have ever seen, but it looks to open at the face to not have a nasal bar, the cheek pieces come down to far (that is what gorgets and bevoir are for) Roman helms where that open, but they had tactics and equipment that made closed face a liability, unless the inquis is suddenly going to be fighting in close order and be reliant on drilled  tactics and shouted orders...it's not a compromise that is needed. Plus closed face helms are intimidating as all hell and make the person wearing them sound strange in a non-good way,.

I would post images but I keep getting 'you are not allowed that extension' errors.    Sutton Hoo helm,. polish winged lancer, Byzantine Kataphraktoi, viking helms with the chain mail veils, all provide good examples.

Edit Lets see: HOT06.jpg  b1380_2.jpg

I have to disagree with the above in that I don't think the design team should limit themselves to just designs based on those worn in the late medieval or early renaissance period. Thedas may bear some similarities with medieval Europe, but it isn't medieval Europe. And open-faced helms were worn in Europe throughout much of the medieval period, including knights early in the era. Many contemporaries of the European knights also wore open-faced helms as well, like the Mongols, Arabs, and Turks.

They did, with nasal bars, or cages.   That much real estate open without one is asking to get your face cut off.
