Pansexual female IRL, but I find it immensely fun to create and play with characters of any gender, orientation, and outlook on life.  So far with the DA series my problem has been running into a single LI that I like better than all the others, then not being able to *not* romance them no matter which character I'm playing  In DA:O this ended up being Zevran, in DA2 it was Fenris.  Sucker for elves, I guess? :P  Admittedly, in DA:O I just couldn't really get into any of the other romances; I romanced with Ali on my very first run and that was ok, but I sort of accidentally discovered Zev's romance near the end of that and then that was it lol -- I actually ended up rerunning that char from the beginning later, and romanced Zev the whole way through. Also had a F!Cousland who started romancing Ali for political reasons and ended up marrying him and becoming queen, but had Zev as her actual romance. I did do a romance with Leli with my M!Aeducan because it fit the character, but Morrigan...eh, I liked her character but not the romance, and I didn't like the char I made to romance her so I never finished the run.

DA2 was actually a lot better in that regard for me, though I still prefer Fenris overall.  My Kai (F/Mage) Hawke had a friendly romance with Fenris (hey, once he realized she wasn't LOLOL RULE THE WORLD WITH BLOOD MAGIC I guess he figured she was all right XD).  Other runs:

--M/Warrior: Merrill (rivalmance)

--F/Rogue: Isabela (friendmance)

--M/Rogue: Fenris (rivalmance)

--M/Mage: Anders (friendmance -- never finished this run either though, because seriously dude, screw Anders, and not in the fun way :P)

I'm suuuuper excited for DA:I!  Of all the LIs the one I'm most interested in is actually Dorian -- was initially a touch bummed my avatar char wouldn't have a shot; but the more I think about it, I kinda love that I have to shake up my "usual" to try his romance. My initial run is going to be Saarekai the F/Qunari/Mage; I was sort of disappointed I wouldn't get a shot at Cullen with her (and super bummed that Varric isn't an option at all <_< ) but I'm thinking there's a good chance she'll end up with Blackwall, or possibly IB or Josephine.  Already planned some other runs too:

--F/Dalish/Mage: Solas

--M/Human/Rogue: Dorian

--F/Dwarf/Warrior: Sera

--F/Human/Mage: Cullen

I am a straight woman and I play straight women PCs. I used to be more willing to play male PCs before they were voiced, but now when I try there is too much of a disconnect and I am not invested in their story like I am with a woman. I don't have this problem when the male PC is more of an established character beyond my input though like the Nameless One from Planescape: Torment or Manny Calavera from Grim Fandango.

I'm a hetero female, and I play all kinds of romances--m/f, m/m, f/f.

It's all about character and story for me. It's a role-playing game, and that's what I do. I play either gender and do a variety of playthroughs, including romances. It's fun and allows me to experience more of the game from a different perspective each time.

Heterosexual female....first playthough is as my own personality...no matter what race I pick. So first run will be a straight female.

After that....everything's open. Except Cullen and IB. Although I may find I like their personality more than I am expecting to and may romance them......depends on personality and if I decide to rp a character that would be interested in the them. (If bioware writers are able to make me interested in these two ......esp IB with his unfortunate resemblance to a steer......I will have to 'hats off' to BW.....and will send them cookies)

Zeveran was my favorite DAO romance....Although as Cousland female...I felt squicky. Leliana I tried once as a male...but I found her creepy.....so....she only had one run through.

Thought Isabela was okay with either. Tried Merrill once.....she was like a kid to me so couldn't after that. Liked both anders and Fenris with either hawke. (Liked those two since they both have some cheesy lines I could totally see my husband saying irl)

I have more of a hard time expanding my 'personality' than my character's sexuality......man....playing renegade/bad is soo hard to do. So while trying out new personalities. ....I usually play a straight female.....unless it's too uncomfortable for me to do so...then slip into another skin and be as bad as I can.....that way I can say it wasn't 'me'.

Im a heterosexual female which plays only heterosexual females.
I guess i get invested so much in the character that it becomes an extention of myself in the game. I have tried playing both m/m and f/f and tried playing as a male romancing female and just felt strange. I could not get invested in those playthroughs enough. The only one i was going to romance as a f/f was Cassandra, shes just too cool, but she's unavailable. However i might give Sera a chance. Also i guess i like men too much :D.
With DA i limited myself even more. I began playing as elven female and afterwards could not even play as a human or a dwarf because again was not interested in that playthrough enough. Maybe its silly, but with full list of LIs revealed im quite happy with my chosen limitations. :)

I'm a lesbian, and generally prefer to play through any game as female. I will almost always choose a same-sex option for my LI.

In Origins, I kinda-sorta romanced Alistair at one point, but I made him mad somehow and gave up on him. I romanced Zevran to play out the story but never finished that one. The only one I finished was Leliana's. I always intended to play through as a male and romance Morrigan because she would have been my preference if she weren't unavailable to female Wardens, but I have trouble making myself play as a male if the option is open to play as a female.

In Dragon Age II, I mostly romanced Isabela. Merrill was okay, but she wasn't exactly my cup of tea - I played it through to see the story. I did romance Fenris also, because I loved the idea of him falling for a mage. I really wanted nothing to do with Anders, except to use him to heal me. He mostly annoys me. And Sebastian doesn't like my roguish antics, so we don't get along. :D

In Inquisition, I think I'll probably play through first with Sera because she is an actual companion. I usually tote my LI around everywhere I go so I can listen to the party banter. I'll go for Josephine second. I want to complete the Cassandra arc also, but we'll see, and I'm actually pretty interested in the Dorian story. It might take me forever to finish that one, but I think I might give it a shot. I'll decide about everyone else after I actually meet the characters.

Heterosexual female and I play both male and female characters. I'll romance m/m, m/f, f/f as long as the character I'm romancing is interesting to me or I'm intrigued at the idea of the romance ie. I heard the Isabella romance in DA2 was quite interesting in the way she reacted to it so I rolled a male Hawke and tried it. It was very interesting and I liked it. I romanced both Anders and Fenris with male and female Hawkes, Merrill with a male Hawke (but that romance wasn't quite my cup of tea) and Isabella with both male and female Hawkes.

In Origins, I did romance Zevran with both male and female Wardens but mostly I've played female Wardens and romanced Alistair because I find that romance to be just inexplicably adorable and have trouble going past it. I blame Steve Valentine. :D

I've got my eye on Cullen, Solas, Blackwall, Dorian, Cassandra and Josephine in DA:I. Also tentatively Iron Bull, depending on how his character turns out.

I am a straight male.

In DAO, I chose romances in every sexuality possible. I romanced Zevran with both genders. I romanced Leliana with a female Warden. I romanced Alistair twice and Morrigan once.

I am generally pleased that I am both able and willing to play these games with such a wide array of options that I can play a character of a different gender or sexuality than my own.

That said, I will take a moment here quickly to state that I realize that, as a straight male gamer, I am certainly afforded the most freedom to do so. There are absolutely a lot of people out there like daveliam who have the freedom to persue any of the genders and sexualities, but don't because of how rarely there is an opportunity in a game to play a character with their own sexuality and actually express it. I am lucky that I happen to be in the majority that's had the opportunities and thus feel more secure in playing any gender or sexuality that I want.

I'm not sure if that last statement is inflammatory or not; it is not my aim to provoke another gender/sexuality discussion in this thread. I simply wanted to speak up after reading daveliam's post.

I'm a straight male.  Although my characters RPG characters usually aren't complete self inserts, they usually contain at least a few of my personality traits including my gender and preference.  My Warden and Champion were both straight men who romanced Leliana and Merrill respectively.  However, I recently completed replaying both DAO and DAII using female characters who romanced Zavran and Fenris.  I think I found it easier to roleplay a character further from myself when I wasn't playing the game for the first time.  I plan to make a straight male character for my first DAI character, but I'll switch it up if the game is enjoyable enough to warrant a second play through.

I'm a straight female in RL, but my favourite romances in the DA-universe are Morrigan and Isabela. I may play female characters more often, but I don't have any problems playing as a dude or someone with a different sexuality.

Can't wait to see all the romances in DA:I, although I believe I won't see every one of them. 8 romances are a lot. That's 8 playthroughs even if I somehow manage to find a different Li most fitting for my character in every single one.

Straight male here. Normally, and by "normally" I mean "so far always in every videogame that allows us to do so" I have romanced someone of my sexual preference (female, normally human) when I have the opportunity to do so, but DA: Inquisition my be the first game to change that because I see Dorian as one of the most interesting characters (maybe the most along with Solas) so I don´t know. I am going to play as a human male Mage (as I did on both DA: Origins and DA 2) but about romancing I don´t know, Josephine would be my first choice to go with but I am seriously thinking about playing as a gay male for once and going with Dorian because he seems like a really interesting character, also a very nice guy, he sure has style and also because the Tevinter Imperium is one of the most interesting things of DA lore in my opinion and this would be the first opportunity to know on a personal level a mage fully educated and grown up there, even if he doesn´t agree with some of its practices.

I have no issues with it as I roleplay the characters without my interference after the first playthrough.

I'm a straight male and my first character is always a straight male human warrior.

In DA:O I loved the male human noble/Leliana romance.

In DA2 I vastly preferred the Female Warrior/Mage Hawke/Anders romance.

In DA:I I have a feeling that Cassandra will be my favorite romance.

Well, according to this thread, Dorian has some mad "bicurious" skills.  It seems like there are several straight guys who are thinking about giving Dorian a chance.  I've said it from the beginning, he's going to be a "mainstream" popular gay character, meaning that I can see straight, gay, bi, men, women, etc all interested in his story.  That bodes well for us in the long run, I'd say.

I'm a straight male. I'm fine with playing m/f, f/m, and f/f character romances, but don't really enjoy the idea of playing a m/m one. As long as there is a female somewhere in the PC's romance, I'm good.

As for my main playthroughs: I've played through ME series as a male romancing Tali; In DA:O, I played a female romancing Leliana; in DA2, I played a female romancing Fenris; and for DA:I, I plan to play a male romancing Cassandra.

I'm a bisexual woman with a preference for ladies.

I have no problem with running different gender characters  with different orientations. Least favourite is m/m though, because I don't connect well with such relationships and options were unattractive to me (male elves).

In DAO my preferred romance was Leliana, in DA2 Isabela. I didn't like any male romance so far in Dragon Age (liked Garrus in ME, but still preferred Liara). In DAI I'm mostly looking forward to Blackwall and Cassandra, then probably Sera, Josephine and Iron Bull. Cullen, Dorian and Solas are not interesting for me. Of course, everything can change.

At this point I like Sumalee Montano voice the most, so I probably will run a female PC first.

It's the mustache. It makes him look like either a 1890s squire or a 1980s porn star

I have noticed this as well. I've seen a fair number of straight men say that they may roll a gay male character for the first time because of Dorian. I have to admit that even I, as a straight male who has played at least one gay male character in the past, am more interested in Dorian as a character and potential love interest than any of the gay male options in the past. Dorian seems to be a well-designed character, and would have to be to corral so much interest from so many different places.

I'd say there is much riding on Dorian. Since we don't know exactly how he's going to turn out as a character, it could be a huge success and a turning point, or it could perhaps fall into the negative if he plays to certain stereotypes. Though I have enough confidence in Bioware that I'm optimistic it will eventually be the former.

As a bi female my comfort zone is pretty damn wide and my play throughs reflect that.

The ones I play the least is m/m and m/f, still do it but not as often, this has less to do with sexual/gender preference and everything to do with voice acting, poor BroShep your voice acting was painful, Hawke was much better and gets more play time because of it.

Yeah, even with my disappointment around the romances this time around, the one thing that I really don't doubt at all is that Dorian will be a really well written character.

Well I'm a lesbian, and a transwoman. I do prefer f/f romances but, I'm more than willing to play as straight or bisexual female characters and I do have a pansexual female character in mind, but, I can't bring myself to play a male character in a RPG (DnD gets a pass because of it being inherently social). Choosing to play a male character is just too personal for me.

I have 3 playthroughs in each Dragon Age game.

In DA:O I had my Homosexual Noble Human Warrior who romanced Iona and Leliana. My Bisexual City Elf Rogue who romanced Zevran. And my Straight Circle Elf Mage romanced Cullen (through a mod) and Alistar.

In DA:2 I had my Homosexual Warrior have a one night stand with Isabela and romanced Merrill. My Bisexual Rogue liked to keep it business with her companions and ended up rivalmancing Sebastian as Viscountess. And my Mage Hawke is probably also going to romance Merrill (I really like Merrill).

In DA:I I'm intending on Homosexual Elf Warrior romancing Sera, a Bisexual Qunari Mage who will romance Josephine unless someone really impresses me, and a Heterosexual Human Rogue who will romance whichever straight romance appeals to me the most at the time, currently Cullen.

Straight male here. I usually play as a straight male human on my first playthroughs of BioWare games, as it allows me to react to the decisions much more instinctively. Then, when I have a handle on the game, I'll play as females and other races.

Tomb Raider (2013) was fantastic, and part of the reason I liked it was because you played as a strong female character. It's not common in video games and it felt different, which was nice.

I'm a bi woman and I enjoy playing male and female PCs equally. Most of my PCs are bi, though I do make straight and gay characters as well. Straight male PC is the rarest so far. I play and enjoy all possible options: m/m, m/f, f/f and f/m, though I have a preference for same-sex romance because it's a rare option.

I plan to romance all 8 options, unless a character's personality puts me off completely. My first game will be a bi male PC and I plan to romance Dorian.

Interesting how many non-straight people are on this forum! I'm a bisexual woman, and I like to try all of the romances, but have a strong preference for f/f and m/m romances, because I don't see as many of those in other franchises. I'm a fan of some f/m romances as well, particularly ones where the dialogue doesn't really acknowledge the character's sex (I *hated* how everyone kept pointing out "you're a girl!" when I was playing Origins. HATED IT), but am not a fan of m/f pairings unless the female NPC takes more of an active role in instigating things. So even though it's not my preferred pairing, and definitely far outside my real life experience, I actually intend to try a Cassandra romance in DAI, since it seems likely to defy stereotypical interactions.

My first playthrough will probably be a bisexual female elf, though, so that I can romance whoever hits it off best with my PC. :)
