Can't play a female character because i view the Warden/Hawke/ the Inquistor as an extension of myself but because of my sexuality I'll romance anyone available to my gender as long as i like their personality

Female, bisexual, and being able to play a female character is more important to me than romances, so I'll gladly do f/m or f/f romances, but will be content with watching m/m and m/f romances on youtube. I'm also getting pickier in my old age, so I don't really see a point in playing out romances with characters I don't care for.
I tend to make characters first and then decide on romances that might fit their individual stories. I'm having a harder time this time with DA:I, so I might do a Forever Alone playthrough first and figure out which characters are husbando/waifu material from there.
Straight female, late twenties, married 5 1/2 years, gamer all my life. I prefer playing straight female PCs because those are the stories that interest me and I tend to self-insert (one of my Wardens was a partial self insert and all of my Hawkes were various versions of myself). I don't need to see all the options I just want a great experience playing the kind of character I'm interested in playing.
Though I enjoy it as a play style, since I self inserted so heavily in DA2, I'm not interested in playing self insert characters in DAI. I have a rough sketch of my first character and she will develop as the game progresses. I don't plan romances ahead of time, but it is possible that she is bisexual. I may plan a character "for" Solas and Cullen once I've played the game and am familiar with their characters.
I still have no interest in playing a male as playing a female is important to me, but never say never I suppose.
I'm a straight female and would prefer that, all else being equal. But I'm frequently not interested in who I'm supposed to be. I'm swooning over Blackwall but also interested in Cass and Dorian. So that'll skew things.
I'm a heterosexual female, and I'm interested in playing through all the romances! My characters are not me at all. I might pour a little of myself into each one, but I do not view them as extensions of myself. They are like characters in a story I am writing. Each one is different and unique. Part of what makes them different is their differing genders and orientations. So I have no problem whatsoever playing as a male character romancing a female or a male character romancing a male. I do enjoy when I get to play a female character with lots of straight romance options, because that is most similar to my own experience, but I also enjoy the other experiences as well! If I had a least favorite way to play it would be playing a female character interested in other females. I have no idea why, but that one is least compelling to me, although I will still enjoy playing that character. It's just not as exciting for me as other pairings.
In DA:O I romanced Morrigan and Alistair and also Leliana with male Wardens and Zevran with female Wardens. I didn't play any gay or bisexual Wardens, but that's mostly because I wasn't as interested in the two bisexual options as romances (Leliana and Zev). They just didn't seem as compelling to me as love interests for whatever reasons.
In DA2, I romanced Anders with a female and a male Hawke, Fenris with a female and a male Hawke, Isabela with a male Hawke, and Merrill with a male Hawke. I was much more interested in playing through gay relationships with Fenris and Anders for some reason.
Again, lesbian relationships don't interest me as much, but that's just my quirk. I do plan on playing a lesbian romance with Sera as one of my playthroughs of Inquisition, because she seems quite interesting to me. I'm going to pair her with a female dwarf!

I'm a gay boy. If I have the option, I'll always prefer to romance the males as a male and I'd prefer if all my male characters could romance males. I do still love playing as a woman and I love romancing women in games too though. So if I have the option, I'll always play as a lesbian by default. My favorite character in all kinds of media is a female the majority of times and romancing a character is a way to see new layers and their story unfold in a different way that you can't see if you don't romance them so I feel I'm missing out if I do not romance the characters I like the most. So far, Merrill is my only favorite character who is also an LI who I prefer to just not romance (tried once, didn't like it and didn't finish that playthrough. After watching it on youtube, I did see it gets somewhat better but I still like her better as a friend).
I If, however, I don't get to choose, I can still romance characters as their opposite gender. In fact, some of my favorite Bioware romances are straight exclusive (Ashley, Morrigan, Jack, Miranda). I still always wish I could romance them as their own gender though, and I have a feeling I'd like some of the characters better if I could romance them as the same gender.
So to be honest, I'm not nearly as excited as I was about Solas, Cass and Blackwall after finding out I can't romance them as who I want to. I might still love their characters to death and will prob eventually romance them anyway but I'd def be happier if I could romance anyone as anyone. Dorian has been my first choice for a while now and I still never wanted him to be only romanceable my males. I wish the girls could do it too. Oh well.
I think I was a bit spoiled by DA2 and how much I loved both of my options...
I'm a gay man but I always like to play as a bisexual character.
In DA:O I played as a human mage male. I tried to romance Zevran but ended up enjoying Leliana more. But my character had sex with Zevran, Leliana, Morrigan (during the final act) and Isabela (in a foursome).
In DA2 I played as a human warrior (default Hakwe). I loved Isabela but the romance with Anders won me over. My character had sex with Fenris and Zevran.
In DAI:I I intended to play as a human male rogue and I'm planning to romance Dorian but I also flirt with Iron Bull and Josephine to see where things go. And I also want to meet Isabela and Zevran along the way so all my characters would get to know them better!
It goes without saying I did all the straight romances too, but I do like to try all romances regardless of gender, orientation etc... until this moment my most favorite romance of all time is Male Shepard with Kaidan. We'll have to see if DA:I can change it.
Sorry to be off topic, but why do you prefer Kaidan with a male Shep? I've romanced him as both genders and I felt the straight version was way better considering it spanned three games and there was more (and imo better too) romance dialogue. I regretted not going for Steve after doing it (considering I had already romanced him as femshep).
Woman/pansexual/happily married to a wonderful man.
For the first time, I'm actually going to go completely outside of my own sexuality in a RPG. The character Dorian has me fascinated enough to where I'm going to roll up a gay male warrior to romance him with as my second Inquisitor. He's got everything I've wanted for a Tevinter mage companion in personality (seriously, I've been waiting for someone like Dorian for years,) and, to be frank, he's damned hot. ![]()
I'm a straight female, & I usually play male characters.
However, it depends on the CC. At the start I usually try making a male & a female character. The one I end up liking the look of is usually the character I play as my canon. And once a character is my canon, I tend to stick with that appearance/gender. More often than not, my characters end up being attractive (to me) males. XD
It also depends on the voice actors. I loved the look of male Shepard & his voice. Female Shep's voice was a little too deep for me so I could never get far with a female Shepard. Default female Hawke looked badass but I loved the voice of snarky male Hawke. So I ended up with a custom male Hawke.
For Inquisition, if the default male looks like the one in the trailers (see avatar) I will probably play as him. ![]()
But I still don't know the female options or have a good idea of the voice acting yet.
In terms of romances, I have played them all except f/f. I tend to always go for characters that I personally find attractive, that makes for a good story, or that I feel best fits with the character I'm playing. So in DAO I played a female Human Noble who romanced Alistair and became queen. In DA2, I played a mage male Hawke who friend romanced Fenris. In ME trilogy, I romanced Ashley, than Miranda, and stuck with Miranda in ME3. I also played a male Shep/Kaiden romance which was awesome but I don't consider it my canon since I thought Miranda went better with my Shep.
In DAI, I'm quite torn between Cullen and a Female mage Trevelyan, a male mage Trevelyan romancing Cassandra, or a male warrior Trevelyan romancing Dorian. Also, I think I eventually want roll a female and romance Sera since she seems pretty interesting. So many choices.
Straight female and I play all genders/races/sexualities. The only thing I have a hard time with is doing something "mean" in the game.
Fave BioWare romances: Dawn Star, Zevran, Garrus, Isabela.
Female/Lesbian and I have never played anything in a DA game other than F/F romance BUT that 's because I had a choice to do it. If I was pressed, I might be willing to play a male romancing a female but only if I didn't have a choice. I don't have the desire to romance a man playing as either female or male.
I'm a heterosexual female. Most of my playthroughs tend to be the same gender/orientation as myself.
I've also enjoyed role-playing male characters who are heterosexual.
It's only been fairly recently with BioWare games that I've started experimenting with playing a homosexual hero. Have rolled a homosexual male Hawke. Have not done any bisexuals or lesbians yet.
I plan to try and role-play a number of Inquisitors with a range of sexualities rather than just stay on the familiar path. ![]()
I'm a homosexual guy, and it's sometimes hard for me to play female characters, at least when it comes to romances. Outside of Dragon Age, in things like Borderlands (Maya and Lilith) or Lara Croft, I have no problem. But when I tried to romance Alistair as a female Warden in DAO, it felt so...off. It was very hard for me to enjoy that playthrough at all, and I barely made it through Ostagar before quitting.
In DAI, my main runs will all be homosexual male playthroughs, though I am going to honestly try once to romance Cassandra as a guy, so hopefully that works out, cause I absolutely love her character.
I'm a bisexual woman. My first choice is usually F/F. When I play male characters, I usually go for M/M. Straight romances (either F/M or M/F) are options for me, but not usually what catches my interest right off the bat. I'm willing to play through any romance that I find interesting.
I am a straight Asian Indian man, in my early 20s and my primary choices to love interest are either no romances or male / female romances. I also usually play male characters who are rogues or mages.
I can relate to the straight male character the most and it is awkward to play the game, make decisions and romance someone I really would not go even near or be someone I am totally not in real life.
Hetero female. I don't self-insert, but I do tend to play through female-male romances first, then the female-female, then the male romances, but that can change if I'm particularly fascinated with an NPC. I only pass a romance up normally (assuming time) if it's someone I take a dislike to. I thought Alistair and Leliana were adorable in DAO, though a little too adorable for my tastes. Zevran and Morrigan suited me better. I didn't play DA2, but the only one who interested me was Isabella. I'd have loved a shot at Bann Teagan in DAO, or Aveline or Varric in DA2.
genderqueer with a preference for women. i primarily play lesbian/gay characters and will play them over any straight character if they're available.
i will play straight males, but have a real issue playing straight females. the only straight female i've ever played was in DAO so i could romance Alistair, and that was a bit of a trial for me. i will only play another straight female if i find a straight male character i love as much as Alistair.. and that's not likely.
I've honestly rarely played as a strictly-homosexual character.
It just didn't have any appeal for me. Though I may try it out in Inquisition just to see how it works out.
I'm a female heterosexual. I like to play as a female to romance the males most, but I've also played as males to romance the females, and I have also played as a female that romanced Leliana. I have yet to play as a male and romance another male, but I plan to do so in Inquisition (Dorian).
In short I have no problem playing just any gender sexuality combination, but if given the choice I would rather romance the males with a female.
Heterosexual male here, I tend to play females in games that allow that to happen since play male in most other games. Though females are my preference on protags.
I romance F/F first then F/M if the male was enough to find out what that arc would be like, then M/F. Romanced Zevran, Fenris and Anders just to get achievements wasn't interested in them at all. Alistair and Morrigan once each thus far, will play a new female for Alistair soonish. Leliana favored choice and romanced the most next to Isabela then Merrill, both equal amount right now on them two. I have two male wardens one not finished, and not played a male Hawke yet. Inquisitor will be with Sera, Josie, Cassie, and Iron Bull for sure. Cullen not sure about right now, he is iffie to me. Black Wall and Solas are a no, as of right now. I may try to see how a female elf will handle all 6 options though if I like the last two in order to do a romance arc with them, Dorian may be considered.
