It's nice to see how many people are reasonably happy with the available options.  There's been a lot of anger recently, and I'm glad there's still a lot of happy.

 

 I do wish there had been a "Too many awesome love interests, I can't decide!!!" option to pick for the first question though.  At this point I am convinced my first inquisitor is going to be forever alone with half a dozen failed romances all because I'm indecisive.

Cassandra is definitely going to be my canon romance. I need to see more of Josie, but she seems interesting. I'm salty that Sera is female only. Definitely plan on romancing her down the line though.

Poll 2 is reporting fine, it's saying that many people are picking to romance outside of their real life preference.

e.g. just under half said they would romance Blackwall at some point.

 

POLL 1 - this is the first choice preference. Cullan and Iron Bull more favoured. Solas still popular despite gating.

 

POLL 2 - For romancing at some point, Blackwall, Iron Bull and Josephine are most popular.

 

POLL 3 - And whilst there has been plenty of debate on the forum, most are pleased or very pleased with the selection.

I think my Inquisitor will be celebate. Id pick Cullen, but I dont think he deserves it since hes not a party member.

Cullen, because I have been waiting for him since I first played Origins, (the only one competing with him had been Varric...but I digress...) and then afterwards mass confusion. It's basically going to turn into a free for all for who wins me over first. Iron Bull, Sera, Solas, and Josephine are all front runners, let the mayhem begin!

People must have him confused with Cullen.  They both end in "N", so that's what I'm attributing it to......

It can't be because she is a advisor because Cullen is leading..

 

You have to look at both "quizzes" combined.  The first one is just looking at someone's "most preferred" LI, but the second one indicates how many people are interested in romancing them eventually.  Josephine is the lowest for "favorite" LI's (which I suspect will correspond with first romance played), but almost half of the respondents indicate that they are going to romance her at some point, so she's not really doing that bad altogether. 

 

She's kind of the opposite of Solas in that respect.  He's third in popularity as "favorite" LI, but then dead last for the other quiz.  So, it seems like Josephine is not really many people's favorite LI, but many people are interested enough to get around to romancing her.  Whereas Solas has many strong fans, but not as many people who are interested in him beyond that. 

 

And, yes, I'm surprised that according to this, the two most popular ones (if you aggregate scores) are Blackwall and Iron Bull, who both have about 58% of respondents indicating that they are interested in romancing them.  Last place seems to be Dorian with about 46% indicating that they are going to romance him. 

 

At least, that's how I would interpret these scores.

Probably enough feedback now (1,250+) to make some general observations:

• The selection of romance options are well spread in popularity,
  there's not a runaway most popular LI, nor a LI particularly ignored.
  So BioWare have done a good job of creating a range of anticipated characters to be romanced (with no duds).
• Cullen is the most popular first preference followed by Iron Bull and Sera.
• Since the final reveals, Blackwall's popularity has increased, particularly for romance at some point.
• Aside of Blackwall, Iron Bull and Josephine are most popular to be romanced at some point.
• Solas has taken a bit of a hit since being race-gated but he's not unpopular as a first choice.
• There is a healthy interest in same-sex romances as a first choice, 
  though slightly less people overall are inclined to try a same sex romance at some point.
• Whilst the romance choices generated some angry arguments (not disrespecting the points raised)
  the vast majority are happy/very happy with the options, which is not easily seen from the thread arguments.
• Those in the 'pre-order cancelled' camp account for <1% of the sample.

Statistical significance should be better than +3% but BSN is hardly guaranteed to be a representative sample (!)

So best to treat this as a 'fun survey'.

It's great to know that 90% are either happy or pleased with the results, and that the dissapointments and unhappiness just comes from a vocal minority.

 

A couple of other points:

Singlesex romances with homosexual characters (Sera and Dorian: 23%) are chosen by more people as first LI than straight male romances (probably less than 20%, considering that Josephine also allows the f/f pairing). So that should rule out the prejudice of "games are made for straight males who will play straight males".

Racegating and merely advisor status wasn't enough to keep people from chosing Cullen as first LI.

I agree.

I certainly don't want to minimise disappointments genuinely held - I respect those views.

 

But I think you are right that the general responses to the love interests reveals for most

were not the issues that the heated threads suggested.

Thanks for posting up the data, SofaJockey.  Very cool that there are over 1200 responses!  That's not representational of all gamers, but it's certainly a large enough pool to be representational of BSNers (within reason).

 

So it looks like the most popular LI's are Blackwall, Iron Bull, Cullen, and Josephine (in that order).  I'm not surprised by Iron Bull and Josephine, just because they have the largest potential audience.  I'm a bit surprised at Blackwall being the most popular at this point, though, given how many people expressed concerns about him "looking old" and being close to his Calling (memories of Thane and all).  I'm also a bit surprised by Cullen only because he's double gated. 

 

It's also interesting that Cassandra is actually the least popular female LI according to these results.  I thought for sure that she'd be the most.  I guess it's a combination of her being straight, but also being non-traditionally beautiful. 

 

The least popular overall is Solas, which is unsurprising given that he's gated by both race and gender.  Of course, so is Cullen, but I guess he's just too damned dreamy.
