probably hiding out doing what more mercantile magi do: war profitingIt occurred to me; what the hell are the Lucrosians up to during the Mage-Templar War? Did they vote to go to war with the rest of the Fraternities? If they didn't I bet they're profiting off the skyrocketing demand of lyrium. Smuggling is at an all time high.
Mages or Templars?

Are Lucrosians neutral so long as they can make money? Which outcome is the more profitable one? I'm guessing mage freedom has the most potential, but also the most risk. It would have to play out a certain way or they'd lose the ability to earn any money at all. At least in the old system they had very comfortable lives and didn't need to work that hard to make money... mix a potion here, heal a nobleman there... sit back, relax, and eat fancy meals once the day is done. They might have more of an opportunity to become independently wealthy in the outside world, but that's only if they can set up shop somewhere and not get hauled away by the Templars the minute they are discovered... An organized system like the Circle is probably easier to take advantage of.
I can see them 'going to war', but not Leroy Jenkins style. Let the Libertarians handle that. So probably support like healing or like the monkey said setting up supply lines for profit.

The Lucrosians at Andoral's Reach voted against leaving the circle. But it strikes me as unlikey that they're peddling lyrium from some clandestine base safely away from the fighting - I'm not even sure where they'd get the funds to buy it or who they'd be able to they sell it to at this point in time. I'd bet they're still on the run with everyone else they escaped with. They're a tiny fraternity, the second smallest, and there's strength in numbers in sticking with the other mages.

If Lucrosians value coin above all else, they are going to ally with whatever faction is going to produce the most stable economy. I think I'll withhold judgement until I see the options we're given in DA:I. Who knows... "mage freedom" may not be as chaotic as I expect it to be. Maybe the writers have some kind of integration plan in mind that we either haven't considered or did consider but dismissed for some reason.

Well, this is my ideal scenario...but its probably never going to happen.
The Templars separate themselves from the Chantry and become a special kind of law enforcement. They are no longer a section of a giant religious organization, now just work for their nations and cities, like the Knight-Templars of Denerim or something.
Mages are given freedom and are only obligated to live in the Circles for a couple years to be schooled on their magical abilities, still allowed contact with their families, and the Templars just implement law&order on the whole of Thedas, not just in Circles. They change their policies, weed out corruption, and no longer make mages tranquil. They also only take the phylacteries of mages that have had a record of criminal activity/demonic possession.
Good mages are allowed to join the Templar Order and help hunt down blood mages/criminals/people that abuse their power. Then, a court system is added, allowing bad mages to go on trials in front of juries before being punished for potential crimes. A cure for abominations is investigated and established, mages that turn sour can now be spared and given proper justice. Lastly, a special prison is constructed for mages that just don't want to abide by the law.
This is what I want, but its more likely that either 1) mages will live in their own nation or 2) we will have to choose to eliminate one or the other. Part of me also hopes Sandal's prophecy comes true, and that everyone is granted magic. Then the problem would be null and void ![]()

I wouldn't say they value coin above all else, but the power that comes with it. Economic manipulation should be just as deadly as a fireball in the hands of a Lucrosian. IMO these are the guys that are closest to the Tevinter mindset sans blood magic and apostasy.

C'mon now. Lucrosians are natural born hustlers. They sell ice in winter and fire in hell. Profiting off of the lyrium trade during a war between the Circle and the Templars is child's play.

Seriously, though mages all the way. My Mage Warden Amell and Mage Hawke will get along grand with my Male Mage Trevelyan. Magic is Might!

I am not a proponent of savagery and violence, but I support mages far more than I support Templars. The ones in Kirkwall were ***holes. Except for Thrask, Keran, Cullen and Samson. I hated that one in Awakening as well.

Other mages probably kill them on sight, along with the loyalist.

I agree that both sides have their faults, but I find it difficult to sympathize with the Templars, when my PC'S are mages. My first walkthrough is 1) Male Mage Amell 2) Male Mage Hawke and 3) Male Mage Trevelyan. This is a pro magi walkthrough.
Second one will be 1) Male Dwarf Aeducan 2) Male Warrior Hawke and 3) Male Warrior Adaar. This will be pro Templar walkthrough. Also cultural and racial diversity.

In my headcanon, all three of them will be the same person.
In my canon-canon, there's a lot of very irritated white-haired mages saving Thedas lately.
