I'm starting to see some similarities between Assassin's/Mages and Templars/Templars from AC.
Freedom vs Security. Order vs Chaos. Coincidence?

I was done with the Carta after Origins; The Carta's remnants do not concern me.
The Hornhead ox-men remain the premier enemy.

No plans for a Cadash Inquisitor then? The dwarven PC is from the Carta and although they player will have a chance to become an exception to the rule, the faction itself is still fairly one dimensional.

I actually think it's pretty multi-dimensional.
The Carta is a group of Casteless Dwarves who need to be criminals because that's the only way to LITERALLY not figuratively survive.
I feel awful killing them.
Can't the same be applied to Tal-Vashoth or the Carta?
The Tal-Vashoth? Not at all. The Carta? Yes, they function in mostly the same way. They're the bread and butter of "bad-guy-Dwarf" encounters.
Firsthand, we've seen literally 2 Tevinter mages who are not cartoon villains, one of which we only know from the comics, the other being from a game that hasn't been released yet.
I feel awful killing them.
I don't.

For me the Qunari background is the most interesting. We saw Human Nobility, Dwarven Commoner and Dalish Elf in Origins. Now time for a Mercenary Tal'Vasoth. True Hawke can be a mercenary in DA2, but your background is largely Nobility with a mixture of Magi.

The Carta should be multidimensional... but for some reason they never appear that way.

Yes, regardless of how or why they joined, the Carta seem to be little more than organized criminals... of course, we don't get to actually speak to most of them before combat, so who knows what they may have said.

My point is that Tevinter's less than noble cultural characteristics are a matter of historical record and have persisted for several thousand years... long before the rise of Andraste. I don't think it's fair to write them off as "cartoonishly" evil simply because their society is structured as an extreme form of survival of the fittest. They serve a role in the lore of Thedas just like every other nation, even if you may not like the image of free mages that they present to the player.

It's not the broad details that make a background interesting, nor the fact that we've done it before.

It's possible to survive being casteless without being a member of the Carta or a noble hunter. I can't say it's easy, and you can easily argue that it isn't sane to attempt, but there is work for them. (The very worst work, but it's work.)

Made up of Casteless, who live in a society that only affords them the legal right to starve to death.

It is fair because that's exactly the role they play in a franchise that goes out of its way to paint everything in shades of moral ambiguity.

What I don't like about them is that they're a comedy act. As entertaining as their perpetual over-the-topness is, they certainly don't feel like they really "belong" in DA... or at least it feels like they're not really meant to be taken seriously.
You forgot about the gangs.
The hordes and hordes of gangs.
So many gangs, so many problems. Going to thin out the blood mages dramatically if it can be helped however.

Not for myself, nope. Perhaps I can ****** on Jarvia's grave?

*sigh* I was agreeing with you...

How about them Templars when they conquered Minrathous... Oh wait. How about them Qunari... no that doesn't work either. How about them darksp... Damn, the Magisters are just that good.
And all that is meaningless before a Templar.
someone is forget that grey warden(magic blood) Alister is a son of a powerfull elf mage(double magic blood) and reaver who have a blood of a ancient dragon(superior magic blood)...and he is taking lyrium to have his Templars powers what would be enchanted because of the magic powers in his blood...Alister is more a mage that ordinary human, and he is not a ordinary human and tempalrs powers what is additinal to his nature does not change much
offcourse Titus cant easily and as he tryed secretly mind controll him...if he would attack him not in fade Alister would quickly die as Qunari...only his blood and Maric save him in fade when Magralen was broken

I'm surprised they aren't extinct after kirkwall to be honest, it felt like every blood mage ever came there.

Oh it's fantasy now. Convenient. Call the templars on their bullshit and watch the dick measuring brigade rush in...

Tevinter is Fantasy! Byzantium.
Mintrathos is Fantasy! Constantinople.
There is no condemnation in that.

Seriously it seems that the plot armor is all that is holding the Imperium together, even in the lore!
The Qunari make it to the outskirts of the city and besiege it for more then a year!
Andraste and her army actually breach southern Tevinter and begin a march to the capital, defeating the armies of the imperium in that famous battle at Valayrian fields.
The exalted marches? Again, breach the southern edge of Tevinter.
Eventually that plot armor fails, Anders who was invincible through it was still eventually cut down.
The Imperium will exist until the devs decide it won't.

Uh huh. Tevinter has plot armor. Weak.
