Is it worth being a lyrium fiend for the rest of your life, though?
With diminishing returns...
But that said if you plan to champion the Templars, i'd advise it considering its anti magical abilities.

I hope we can slap both of the extremist sides of this debate and come up with a real workable compromise, Mages are dangerous need to be watched but at the same time mages don't need to be in towers and oppressed, its time to COMPROMISE! YAY \o/

I plan to Champion Thedas...with Champion. Also depends on how in depth our Jesus powers are supposed to be, though I doubt they'll make an entire spec irrelevant.

Of course, let's leave them out in the open where they and their children can be killed every time the crop fails.
It was an insanely useful one to employ back in DA 2.
But things have changed, i will need to check out the skills, bonuses and abilities that come with every spec probably before investing in one.
Yeah, people can say what they want about the "superiority" of Berserker/Reaver, but I always preferred Templar/Reaver for Hawke in DA2. It was incredibly useful in situations involving mages and demons, and even though Berserker obviously grants more raw power, I never felt like I was fighting at a disadvantage by taking Templar instead.
But yes, the specs are different, the basic trees are different, and specs impact the storyline in some unspecified way... who knows what to expect this time around. I'm leaning towards Champion, but that could change once we have some solid details to go by.

Actually that's one of my biggest in-game concerns. I already put Hawke through that and it's canon. I don't know if I want to do the same with the Inquisitor... it will depend on a few factors and what direction he heads in once I actually play the game. I'm sure I can adapt to any selection of abilities, so I'd like to roleplay the spec decision rather than pick whatever seems the most powerful/effective.
I will eventually play as a highly devout human warrior and that char will definitely become a Templar, but the first one isn't so devout, so it probably won't turn out that way.

Yay!
but they are wrong. I would understamd if it was a few but its like 5 people saying your wrong and they give you actual facts, from WoT to the wiki. Your just spewing half/misinformed facts that hold little if any validity
i have 5 people who mostly say something without understanding and having much info..many have mistakes on many things and some just give something like "you wrong"..so do not give me a crap that some people bla bla....quality is matter not a numbers of mobs
i give you actual facts what is by official info, especially like WOT says that Varania simply cant be a slave and it is not clear with Fenris who was a soldier/bodyguard gets his super powers and was "one of the best swordsman in empire"
She is to become a Magister
called as Imperial Citizen and never as a slave...noone exept Fenris does never call her as slave and Hadriana says that she is not a slave

Well if s/he's human, they were raised to believe it's the right thing to do anyway. None mage Trevelyan probably would have joined the Templars eventually.

My first Inquisitor isn't human, though... I'd probably have ruled Templar out by now but who knows what the devs will come up with to explain the class this time around? What if the Inquisitor's power means that they don't need lyrium?
I hope they keep silence as a Templar ability.
Nothing quite so satisfying as watching a mage in the middle of casting a spell just stop and just stand there like a moron waiting to be gutted, wondering why their magic isn't working anymore.

Doubtful, the Inquisitor's power seems less magical in nature, and more connected to the nature of the Veil itself.

lol... well good thing I'm more than happy with Champion if that turns out to be the case. That sounds pretty noble, right? Anti-magic powers are nice, but becoming lyrium addled is probably too high a price to pay for someone who wasn't even raised by the Chantry. An enchanted greatsword is probably more than sufficient.

Vashoth?
To think how the blade of the Archon would become such a well-regarded image in Thedas.
Pity the magisters spurned it and returned to their foolishness.
Maybe it was a parallelism about Christianism using the image of an instrument of torture as a holy symbol.
Vashoth?
*sigh* Don't crucify me for this... Dalish.

A Dalish Templar? What will people say?
A Dalish Templar? What will people say?
The character I came up with isn't concerned what those people will think, he's concerned with not sleeping in the forest anymore. It's a long story, but maybe that will give you some perspective.
edit: But as I said, Templar might be stretching things since it would mean giving up his freedom... this char is far too selfish for that, which is why I'm waiting for news of the spec and whether or not lyrium use is mandatory.
*sigh* Don't crucify me for this... Dalish.

Don't the Dalish have something similar to Templars called the Emerald Knights or something?

You have summoned Lob upon us i am certain now.
@ Master Warder_Z - lol Hey, not every Dalish is a freedom fighter. Some realize the opportunities that come with randomly being put in charge of an army and will do what it takes to stay there.
