That's a lot of assumptions being made.

lol... I think history speaks for itself.  How could it possibly make sense for a Circle system to arise if normal humans could randomly become abominations?  Why is this never mentioned in the games or books?  If it's easier than possessing mages, why don't we ever hear of cases like that?  These questions shouldn't even need to be asked... I mean, the game says plainly how the Fade works, how abominations work, and yet people are willing to leap to ridiculous conclusions with no evidence to back them up simply because it makes mages look better?  Huh?

Uh where?

I don't recall that in any codex or WOT.

"The greatest advantage of the Chantry-led forces was the Circle of Magi. For all their technology, the Qunari appeared to harbor great hatred for magic. Faced with cannons, the Chantry responded with lightning and balls of fire."-Par Vollen: The Occupied North

They notice them, but they have no desire to possess them, and see them merely as oddities at best, and objects of the Fade at worst.

That would ignore the existence of Revenants, Sylvans, and possessed animals.

I largely believe the Circle system DOESN'T make sense. I think it's a stupid idea and causes more abominations than it prevents.

Of course, the Circle system is a mage idea, not a Templar one.

Which is what some people forget.

So I blame the mages who came up with it.

I also think the Veil being thin is the problem not magic. The Brecilian Forest is an example of a MAJOR problem as is Kirkwall as a whole.

Demons don't possess "mundanes" without the involvement of mages... blood mages based on DA2. Without a mage summoning them in some very specific ritual, they don't have the ability to control normal people from the Fade or physically inhabit their bodies. At best they can use mind control abilities when they actually cross the Veil, as seen with the desire demons in Broken Circle. The point is that it is not "easier" for non-mages to be possessed by demons... nothing in the lore supports that this is even possible, let alone easy.

We have seen non mages get possessed though. Khedra, for example, was a ruler of the Free Marches who was possessed by a pride demon and turned his city inside out.

None of which arise form the domination of sentient minds.

Alrightie then :P

So the canon analogy was accurate, how about that neat.

I still don't credit them with the victory, they were merely a tool.

Like Tanks, or Air Strikes, its the men on the ground that win wars.

Like the mud-booted mage, winning the war against the Qunari through their courage and nobility.

But yes, the Mages helping against the Qunari is one of the few times they won concessions from the Chantry and a reasonable position of freedom.

The Chantry had a use for them, so they were suddenly a part of the Chantry than its prisoners.

Wee.

Uhm no? Since ALL those are examples of Demons crossing through a thinned Veil and possessing the first thing they can, which often due to their confused state, ends up being an inanimate object or a simple animal.

Bottom line: a normal non-mage CANNOT be possessed through his dreams. He can ONLY be possessed if he literally encounters a demon in the physical world, or if a mage forces a demon inside of him.

Khedra?  I've never heard of this... the wiki doesn't say much about him... do you know how he became possessed?

It depends on how Sophie Dryden became possessed.

She's a corpse now but it's been a couple of centuries.

Also, she has access to all of their minds.

We also don't know what might happen to normal humans who agree to dealing with a demon.

Nope, but he was a non mage who got possessed by an upper level pride demon.

I'm not sure mages can be possessed in their dreams either.

Connor summoned a demon to make a pact with.

And the Harrowing is what terrifies mages so much.

It wouldn't be something people prefer becoming TRANQUIL over taking if it was their nightly existence.

A Demon likely killed her and found the corpse?

Pfft!

What officer school did you go to? (Sounds Cech)

You don't put your long range support in positions where it can be engaged by the enemy?

That's just stupid!

You keep them at a distance where they can bombard the enemy to effect, but receive little to no return fire.

I guess it's a question whether all those skeletons and other animated corpses we find could have been chatty if we'd bothered to talk with them or if Sophia was different.

Again, mages are terrified of the Harrowing to the point of preferring soul death.

Because it sends them to the Fade to confront demons.

BS. Read about Orana, the girl who was so afflicted by demons that she wouldn't even sleep, due to their temptations in her dreams. As a result, she became a Tranquil at 12 so she could finally sleep.
