Pfft!

What officer school did you go to? (Sounds Cech)

You don't put your long range support in positions where it can be engaged by the enemy?

That's just stupid!

You keep them at a distance where they can bombard the enemy to effect, but receive little to no return fire.

Do you even Knight Enchanter? Please leave this thread.

Uh where?

I don't recall that in any codex or WOT.

It's one of the factors along the fleet that became the factor pushing the Qunari back since Thedas mages are the only thing they can use to counter the Qunari's technology at the moment.

I should probably have written it differently, never the less mages do deserve some credit.

The first New Exalted March in 7:25 Storm proved successful. The Circle of Magi proved to be a great boon for the Chantry-led forces as they were able to effectively counter the Qunari's technology with their magic.

I guess it's a question whether all those skeletons and other animated corpses we find could have been chatty if we'd bothered to talk with them or if Sophia was different.

It simply means Sophia Dryden was possessed by a higher tier demon than the others..

Well so far there has only been cases where mages forcefully implanted demons into normal people.

They weren't drawn to them automatically like they are mages, so i am assuming she was dead before possession because i doubt Avernus turned out solely to force a demon inside her.

Again, mages are terrified of the Harrowing to the point of preferring soul death.

Because it sends them to the Fade to confront demons.

They are indeed. Probably because demons doesn't take much notice of mages in their younger years, since their "flame" doesn't burn bright enough yet. There are other tastier morsels out there.

So does sleeping. If you want to be an idiot and die rather than saying no to something that wants to turn you into a ticking, time bomb, all the power to you.

BS. Read about Orana, the girl who was so afflicted by demons that she wouldn't even sleep, due to their temptations in her dreams. As a result, she became a Tranquil at 12 so she could finally sleep.

It might be that her connection to the Fade was stronger than most.

Hawke, Bethany, Anders, and MageWarden don't mention it.

Nor does Wynne or Morrigan.

When Mage Warden is in the Fade, you'd think he'd recognize it automatically.

I could have sworn her demon said her pride drew him to her, or perhaps it did draw the demon, but only chose to possess her after she had died.

Pfft, like Battle Mages right?

I will repeat what i said many times before.

Shields of magic BREAK when swords hit them, look at Mr. Arcane Shield back in the Stolen throne, or Titus in the comics.

Barriers break.

Good memory!  I recalled the tale and wanted to mention it but didn't remember the girl's name...

I wouldn't be surprised if Sophia would be stupid enough to make a deal to save her life on the belief she could get around it.

But I have no evidence of this so point conceded and dropped.

As soon as a demon is physically on the mortal plane, there is nothing preventing it from possessing ANYTHING (other than willpower and the usual magical mumbo jumbo). However, Dryden was probably already dead, evidenced by her dead and rotting appearance (the demon can't maintain lifelike appearance unless the host is alive), but could "taste" the residue of Dryden's soul or personality.

I'm not sure mages can be possessed in their dreams either.

Connor summoned a demon to make a pact with.

And the Harrowing is what terrifies mages so much.

It wouldn't be something people prefer becoming TRANQUIL over taking if it was their nightly existence.

I'm pretty sure Connor didn't summon the Demon, it just showed in his dreams most likely because it felt his desire to help his father.

Point is dropped but Sophia might be rotting and so on because she's been possessed for two centuries.

Someone seriously needs to get moving on the theft, reverse-engineering, and expansion of Qunari tech.

The marriage of technology and magic will be the greatest thing Thedas has ever witnessed.

He mentioned using Jowan's books.

Which, again, Jowan, you ruin things.

You ruin things like Hawke fails.

Yup. That story broke my heart. Sad thing is that I had never even heard that codex entry until years after I had last played DA2.

No. Demons are drawn to mages. So are spirits.

"It is known that mages are able to walk the Fade while completely aware of their surroundings, unlike most others who may only enter the realm as dreamers and leave it scarcely aware of their experience. Demons are drawn to mages, though whether it is because of this awareness or simply by virtue of their magical power in our world is unknown."-Abominations

It could also be the veil was very thin there too.

If she lived in Kirkwall.

Well....another reason to raze that place to the ground.

Orlais was apparently interested in acquiring Black Powder or at least Duke Prosper was.

Mages can walk around the Fade which is why only a Mage can save Connor. That doesn't mean they can do it without copious Lyrium or Blood Magic, though.

Mages are aware when they are dreaming. That's the point. I mean it says it plain and simple.

Seriously, if mages could enter the Fade and wander around on their own then we wouldn't need the circle or Jowan.

We'd just need to take a nap.

Yes, it is unfortunate what some mages go through... :(  The worst part is that after becoming Tranquil, she no longer had the capacity to feel relief and appreciate a good night's sleep...  Hm.  DA can get pretty grim sometimes.
