That is my mage pride.
People take pride in stupid things all the time, in this instance taking pride in the risk that accompanies being mage and dismissing it.
To me? That's even worse then being a Mage, but a mage who willfully ignores the danger they pose.
There isn't redemption for such a person.

Was Lady Harimann in Dragon Age 2 a mage? I don't believe she was. If not, then given how it easy it was for her to make a deal with a demon, why so much emphasis on mages in particular? Seems like just about anyone is susceptible to demonic influence in Thedas. In fact, demonic mages are less insidious because they are so obvious. Whereas, greedy possessed nobles can go on secretly causing mayhem for ages.

Team Apostates. Pathetic mages who allow themselves to be caged still have my support.

That was never really gone into.
There are theories that abound however.

Templars. No one should wield such power without atleast someone to make sure that mages won't abuse it.
What about the templars and all the power they wield over the mages. Who protects the mages from abuses? Because for like the last thousand years no one protected them from their protectors until the peacefully voted to separate from the Chantry. Then were violently attacked by the templars for a vote.

Once you play Mage, Templars belong in a cage to deal with their jealous rage. Templars have no heart and in my life have no part. I hope this answers your question but if you want more just make a suggestion.

Mages.
I understand why the Templars do what they do, though.
Which leaves me wondering whether I want to be merciful for my DA:I playthrough or Mageneto.

Every time someone sites extremist as a source of how Templars work, I'll just say every mage is Denarius. Before Act 3, Meredith was just doing her job. All that whining over not having staves when they should be grateful that she didn't kill them for being blood mages.

Your view of things is as false as your stance on the issue.
The Mages broke from the topic they were given leave to discuss, at the behest of their delusional knife ear of a leader.
They refused the Lord Seeker when he requested they hand over an enchanter who was suspected of being under the sway of a demon, had they done so no violence would have occurred in the white spire that day.
The Mages rejected peace, the Mages provoked violence and the Mages will reap the ****Ing whirlwind.

According to her daughter she wasn't a mage.
I don't take that with much accuracy considering the lady in question was a blood mage who could have easily ensorcered her daughter to remember whatever she wanted her to remember.

Siding with the Templar is the only sane course of action in this situation.
Nope.
Only sane course was getting on Isabela's boat and getting the hell out of dodge.
Alas it's unusable.

She was not a mage. It is stated several times. There had never been magic their family. It was a point of pride for them. So no she was not a mage.

So again, why the emphasis on mages? Why not just keep an eye out for powerful demon-possessed folks. Instead of wasting all that time and energy developing circles and lyrium-addled templars to guard them, wouldn't Thedas have been better off investing in demon detection and expulsion technology or relics? Think ghost busters crossed with exorcists.
