Electing Fiona seems an odd choice given they voted her down.

It might have been for the same reason Wynne wanted the mage protagonist to return to the Circle (after speaking with Aneirin), since she thought the Warden's experiences as a leader could lead to the Circle becoming a better place.

Considering now narrow the margin was for separating (as Wynne thought the Circles would vote for autonomy during Awakening, and was desperate for Ines' support), it's not surprising someone like Fiona was voted in. I'm sure there were other decisions Fiona endorsed that were not as divided as the call for the Circles to separate from the Chantry.

This, I thought Tranquility as a punitive measure wasn't even legal?

No, that was 90% of what got Anders' dander up.

Stuff which wasn't legal under the Templar and Chantry law to begin with.

Yeah, Anders took away the possibility of reform and change coming peacefully, with the Templar Order, even Lambert, possibly getting on board.. Now we are faced with war and blood and death instead.

Depends on whether or not one believes genuine reform for the Circles was possible under Chantry control.

Wow, that was a bad idea for my case.

My Warden was only slightly less radical than Fiona.

He just had the caveat. "Mages deserve their freedom if they murder the **** out of evil mages."

I admit this is true.

Also, the First Enchanters sign off on Tranquility.

Jerks.

The fact is, the Circle has a vested interest in producing Tranquils.

For certain, I can say blowing up the opposition didn't encourage reform.

Well, the new Divine seemed to realize that change was needed at least, as did Leiliana. Whether or not they were capable of bringing it about is the question.

She seemed to have bought into the general hatred of mages that, despite it not really following from the Chant of Light or being part of the Chantry's official doctrine, the Chantry doesn't seem to help with much. And that's really the fault of others more than it is her own, at that age. Though she might have needed it by the time of Origins regardless of whose fault it was.

I'm rather disappointed with both factions at this point. Unless valid circle reforms are an option I'll have to rely on something random. Like which side makes the better pastries.

Wait, if it's that easy why are we wondering how the Circle in Starkhaven burned down?

Also, if the mages decided to cast an ice spell to put the fire out, could the Templars stop them? Would they be within range to stop the mages?

I don't think anyone is in any doubt that the Starkhaven Circle burned down to the ground. The fire MAY have started as magical, but it spread through natural means, meaning that neither mage nor Templar could "dispel" it. If the entire fire had been of magical nature, then it stands to reason that both the mages and the Templars would have put it out before it got out of hand.

And yes. If the mages tried to use magic to stop the fire, then theoretically speaking the Templars would have been able to stop them from doing so. Assuming the Templars are within range.

Actually, in Gaider's interview with Lady Insanity, he makes a point of saying that blood magic does have a few spells that are unique to blood magic, so it's pretty clear that lyrium can't do mind control. Lyrium (in great abundance) can equal blood magic in raw power, but blood magic does have some extra things that it can do.

Hence, why I said those who are moral. Those who lack them would be using the mind-control spells or summoning demons or whatnot.

The mages probably wouldn't have been allowed to use magic to fight the fire. I can see the templars smiting mage after mage as they conjure ice spells to put out the fire. Then leaving the mages there to burn to death.

I can see corrupt templars doing that.

I can also see mages panicking and running nilly-willy if they haven't been trained in ice or water spells, like younger apprentices, smoke inhalation, and just general panic throwing out all semblance of order, which would hamper an organized attempt to douse the flames.

More than likely that is what would happen.

The one who kept saying how vile her magic was. She's across from Lily praying. I usually suggest she ask to be made tranquil. Doesn't seem like she'd pass her harrowing anyway.

What on earth would the Templars stand to gain from acting like complete and utter morons like that? I know you are a mage supremacist, but trying to impose stupidity on your enemy is just... low....

I took that as a gay metaphor.

So I can't say I approve of that.

Not really give what we know about how templars are recruited and trained to have the mindset "All mages are evil and any magic they don't have permission to use is for evil."
