They seem to have a thing for obeying laws and regulations as well. And since alrik is breaking the law in those cases, enough that they would know their own tranquility was a violation of theb.

I dont see why they wouldn't try and report his actions or why they would have incentive to follow him more then thrask.

The Tranquil mention that Ser Alrik told them that their Tranquility was the only way to save them from the Void.

They might believe that.

reminds me of slaves. Only really happy when they are commanded

I don't think the Tranquil in that position are truly "happy." I think that the second they saw some way to punish the Templars who misused them in that way without getting a thousand times the pain and inconvenience they gave, they'd do it.

It depends if they even recognize it as a violation anymore.

Which is another reason I think of Tranquility as horrific.

LOL. House slaves (Uncle Tom), maybe. Field slaves burn the 'master's' house and wish the plague on him.

They might also have fire for nails for beds, fire for blankets, and nugs stuffed in their pillow cases. I don't deal in mights when there's evidence the contrary. Tranquil serve the Circle first and foremost, then the Templars. When you ask Owain about his Tranquility, he says he can not tell you what transpired because the he couldn't betray the Circle. Not the Templars, not the Chantry, the Circle.

You are aware that Uncle Tom allows himself to be killed rather than participate in the recapture of two escaped slaves?

Except that we watch a Tranquil look the other way for the party attempting to destroy the phylacteries in Asunder, even warning them that they've got a limited amount of time to do this if they want to avoid capture. When one of them wonders about what the Tranquil is doing for basically the reason you gave she says that just because it's smart to obey while you're being watched doesn't mean you don't have free will.

Yes. I was using the epithet; not the character that it's based on.

Except, the Tranquil are telling people this when they're talking about their Tranquility. We don't hear it from other people. We hear it from the Tranquil themselves.

There's no reason also for the Tranquil to obey the Circle, Chantry, or anyone else other than Ser Alrik.

The rite doesn't impose loyalty.

Considering the Tranquil themselves aren't agreeing with you and they don't say that they agree with Alrik, you have no point.

Okay. Kind of what I figured as that's the norm here, but this thread does move fast.

The thing is I could swear that for the most part it's the same people going over the same arguments. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when the game releases and one sides or the others choice works out better then the other. I'll be fairly annoyed if Bioware goes for some kind of arbitrary balance.

I can also imagine people complaining if one group works better for one play style while the other favors something else. I'm fond of artillery so I hope the mages can fill that roll.

Umm...right.

So the Tranquil who tells her former lover in Act 2 that she belongs to ser Alrik now was exercising the sense of humor that tranquil are famous for?

Cool. And yeah, if we get better results by making certain choices, the opposing factions players are going to have a hay day, and possibly a cow or two.

So why not just use artillery?

It exists in DA.

Because the Qunari won't sell me gun powder or cannons and I'm not sure if anyone other then the dwarfs or qunari would know how to make the metal strong enough to endure the pressures. Mages are also easier to move around, only need to wrest to recover their ammo, can do more then just blow things up such as healing and can change the type of damage they deal as well. Mana clash for example may be more effective against rage demons then well fire ball.
