I don't see anything remotely non-humanoid as possible in DA (The closest being werewolves which are created through magic). I feel if anything we could see someday see the Fex, I imagine them as some kind of East-Asian mixed with Neanderthal with Aztec/Maya influence. I would personally love that in some future game they do some kind of Taint created Frankenstein race (wardens and/or darkspawn made worse/better through Avernus'/Architect's research and a little bit of whatever created Cole, which would potentially retcon some peoples world states).

I would say no to new races most likely, it would take something very special and very interesting to win me over, which is unlikely to occur. What's there is more than sufficient, what's needed is different cultures and takes on what we already have. The world is a big places and Thedas is only a portion of it. Who knows what Elven or Dwarven societies exist elsewhere, or human and qunari.

Reveal that some Arlathan elves yet live, but as ancient dreamers they have transformed into mind-flayers.

Holy crap, those pictures are all so freaking cute.

But generally, I don't go in for anthropomorphic fantasy races. I don't HATE them, per se, they just don't hit the sweet spot (generally).

So you hate dwarves, elves, and Qunari, then?  You were missing a word if you meant anthropomorphic ANIMAL fantasy races :D

There might be unknown races living on other continents.  Wasn't it said lore-wise that the qunari don't even know precisely where they came from before Par Vollen?  They seem to have kind of been lost at sea/shipwrecked, or maybe an expedition went horribly wrong.

Either way, there are other places in the world of Thedas, where other races may exist.  We know that there is, or was, a race called the Fex.  It may have been retconned, or they may be extinct due to the qunari invasion--or simply unable to travel to other lands.

I'd personally rather avoid animal races.  The kossith qunari are already animal-like enough, since they are evidently part dragon.  The others are all variously shaped humanoids.

There are lots of things that could still be done with humanoid races, though we have most of the basic humanoid shapes filled in already.  We are missing super-short slim people; elves used to be a bit shorter than they appear to be in DA:I, but never tiny.  We are also missing tall willowy giants, though we have massive muscular giants.

Fantasy games usually do have cat-people, sometimes bird people, sometimes fairies, goblins, etc.  I would not mind a goblinesque playable race (as opposed to darkspawn) in Dragon Age.  Not everyone needs to be pretty.

I wouldn't mind having a clawed/fanged race that maybe seemed a bit more bestial, but it would have to be done carefully so as not to fall into the "cat person" trap.  To me, I don't think Thedas really needs animal-people, unless they were created by magic for some reason or another.  Putting an animal's head on a humanoid body seems like a bit of a "cheat" in terms of making a new fantasy race, and stopping at the tail and ears is an anime/JRPG/manga way of handling it to be cute.  But Dragon Age isn't really all that cute, aside from the nugs and mabari and fennecs--okay it's got its cute parts.  But not the races.

I also would not mind if a fanged/clawed race were to have a (possibly prehensile) tail, as long as it wasn't readily identifiable as lizard/cat/monkey/fox/etc.--just an identifiable feature of that particular race.  But that sort of thing might work better for Mass Effect than for Dragon Age, anyway.  Edited to add:  In terms of making a design for a race with a tail that isn't identifiable as an existing Earth creature, that is.

Yeah, I'm not particularly interested in new races either (although I'm curious about the Fex, I don't care if they're ever playable).  I'd like to see some dwarves from Kal-Sharok, though, and they might be different enough that they'd almost qualify as another race.

I'm not sure the writers have enough other reasons on tap for a new race to dislike humans to go introducing another one, though.   :P  Plus, you know, the instant "can humans have sex with them?  What about babies?"  "what about elves?  Dwarves?  Qunari?  Can nugs breed with them?" might discourage that sort of thing.

Although, I wouldn't mind something like Halflings or Gnomes.  This game world could use a race that is both short and really annoying.

I love when Dragon Age gets creepy and weird so would love to see a sea-based Lovecraftian race (with sprinkles of mer-folk, fae, broodmother type creatures).

eg Dagon

or the Czech version of Little Mermaid:

I also always loved the Lady of the Forest so would like to see more of her kind (whatever she is).

It isn't that hard to imagine a face and culture while keeping it somewhat original. Here's a quick not so original take on the fex.

When it comes to their biology, they have the head of a fox with the ears and a shorter version of the snout of a sea lion. They have slim, athletic bodies similar to the trolls in a well know MMORPG. Their hands and feet developed in a similar fashion to the hands of orangutans and other tree living primates and monkeys do to the tropical flora, while still maintaining the claws. They are omnivores.

The males are a little larger than the females. They have short fur all over their bodies, but the males have an excessive growing of hair on their neck and upper chest which protects 2 dark red pouches that the male inflate when they fight for dominance.

The males usually are of a reddish brown while the females are a little more orange.

Their society is a matriarchal one, where the females usually take care of the administrative part while the males are the warriors and shamans. The males outnumber the female by 2 to 1, reason why at their coming of age the males have to fight. The winners become part of the warrior caste, while the losers become part of the working class and lose the right to mate ( with a single exception). The winners are given a spouse (that must agree with the pairing ) by the leadership. They form this bound for life, but if the male dies before having any children or if he is dishonest and dishonorable, the female is able to chose a spouse if she wishes to ( from any caste)

Black and white fex are rare and they are always sent into the priesthood, no matter their gender. The white ones become priests and priestesses of Father Sun while the black ones become priests and priestesses of Mother Moon and their daughters. The shamans are exclusively males to do the fact that the males are considered more animalistic and attuned to nature and the spirit world. The boys are given to the shaman from the moment they no longer need their mother's milk, the shaman having the right to reject the child.Until the age of their proving only one male apprentice becomes a shaman, the rest are sent to their parents. Despite the fact that the shamans are not allowed to marry, fex parents send their boys to the shaman do to various reasons like having to many mouths to feed or with the hope that their child might have mastered to control their Blood Frenzy , a shameful and taboo aspect of their society( during their proving, the males are not allowed to kill their opponent and under no circumstance are they allowed to use their claws against another fex).

They live in tree houses, just like the wookies.

Fex respect and fear the dragons. They are considered the guardins of the material world created by The Sun from mud and his very fire. Their role is to protect the world from The Endless Abbys, the younger brother of Father Sun who tried to kill him for the Moon and from who's carcass and hate the evil spirits from the Tomb Of The Betraying Brother were born.

As you can see, endless mambo jambo. It's not that hard with a little imagination.

A race of highly intelligent sea otters or beavers could help in diversifying DA's races.

I absolutely would not want to see anthropomorphized animal people in the DA-Verse.  I like them in other games, but DA has no precedent for it.

Well we still haven't seen the Fex yet, so they could be any of those things. Kinda irrelevant, because the series is all about humans, and their non human sidekicks.

that and I find in Fantasy universes now a day they seem like the easiest solution.

What I do want to see is a fantasy world with wholly anthropomorphized Animal people.

Cat people? This isn't Skyrim.

Catpeople in fantasy and sci-fi is about as common as elves and dwarves.
