I personally don't get why anyone would tell their partner they prefer the opposite gender (of the partner's I mean) rather than their partner's gender either true or not I mean...maybe I'm secretive I don't know. I just seems as if that'd be awkward. It feels awkward in BW games anyway.

If I was bi, I'd likely be upfront about my preference if it came up in the interest of full disclosure, but I'll not just say it out of the blue or at odd moments that are vaguely offensive or hurtful to my partner. I mean I'm supposed to actually like/care about this partner after all and I wouldn't want them to feel like I'm just settling for them.

I think the issue with Zevran is that it sometimes seemed like being in the Crows "made" him bi. Like he would've been this perfectly happy and "normal" straight guy, but all that sleeping around to get the assassinating done turned him bi.

It's icky.

I mean I wouldn't hide being bi but I wouldn't tell my partner I prefer the other gender more. Not the way BW LIs do it. Leliana was fine to me but Zev and Sky are really just awkward. Anders wasn't much better. But yeah Zev and Sky come up with it at the oddest moments. The constant hitting on female companions even while the romance is active doesn't help either.

Agreed.

Oh god, that was another thing I absolutely hated. When I first heard him tell my warden that in game (and this was not on the romance playthrough), I was like I can't believe they thought this was okay to make him say. In fact, it was one of the reasons I became determined to romance him as a male PC just to kinda prove to him (I know the notion of proving to a fictional character sounds silly) that he fell for a man because he's bi not cos he was made bi for the sex.

Anders wasn't much better.

Anders was ok in that regard IMO cos in Awakening he was not a romance option so I perceive his constant flirting as him just generally showing his preference. In DA2, if he's with a male Hawke he doesn't drill in to him that he prefers women. Actually it bothered me more that he would hide his relationship with karl with a female Hawke. I didn't like that at all.

Yeah that's what I meant. The one banter he has about the lay warden has him acknowledging he slept with Isabela but he never mentions relationships or sleeping with men to female Hawke. I mean...I could buy him doing it but it just doesn't look good.

You have problem with Zev Isabela offer sex to Zev in front Hawke and offer to join only if called out. Different people have different personalitys.

When you next talk to him, after Karl is killed.

"Karl and I... he was my first..."  I can't remember the rest of what he says. But it's clear they were together.

Well, I have played Male Hawke a few times.

Does he mention it automatically? Or does Hawke have to ask?

Its possible that I have heard it, but that I simply didn't really pay attention to it.

Pretty sure he will mention it if you use all diplo responses with him ^^ I'm not sure if it happens before or after the flirt option. I've only romanced him 2-3 times, and I felt sure I've heard that line more than that. Course sometimes I flirt with him but never hook up with him lol

Agreed totally.  In fact, it was so skewed in some cases that it ruins the romance for me.  Zevran, in particular, was practically unplayable for me.  His preference for females was so "in your face" that it always made me feel like it was a f/m romance that just had a few lines of dialogue tacked on to make a m/m option.  However, my only other choice in that game is to have no romance at all, which is equally unappealing to me.

I had that problem when romancing Isabela with F!Hawke, how she constantly flirted with & spoke about males but was mostly silent about being with women, especially when playing as a mage. Is abit disappointing that if unromanced by a female Hawke & if the threesome with a female warden & Leliana is skipped which prevents her from mentioning it in DA2, she could easily come across as a particularly man crazy straight woman who just greatly enjoyed casual sex

I disagree, I actually thought she came across pretty well as attracted to both genders, her banter with Bethany in particular highlights this but then I always romance her, even when I decide that this will be the time I romance someone else, I fall for her all over again

Ha.  That's exactly how I feel about Kaidan.  I have started two separate ME playthroughs (from game 1) with the intention of romancing Steve.  But both times, I get to that hospital scene with Kaidan and go all gushy when he finally flirts with Shep.  Poor Steve.  I think I'm going to have do a playthrough where I deliberately leave Kaidan's ass on Virmire so I have to romance Steve, otherwise, I think I'm going to fall for Kaidan every time.

These game series, they give you options and choices, and there you go being faithful across three games !!

(that said, I was the same with Liara...)

If playing as a mage & not having Bethany in the party i don't think she mentions being with women at all unless she's romanced or had fun with the female warden/Leliana in Origins though, just disappointed me abit that she never flirts with any female character besides the optional relationship with Hawke

Thank goodness I am not the only one. I managed to romance Garrus once but every other time, Kaidan sucks me in! It's the same with Fenris. Eight playthroughs with Fenris, one with Anders. And that Anders one was hard!

I guess many of us have our favourites. That is why I'm trying to decide who I least want to romance in DAI so that I can start with them and work my way up to my favourite, the problem is that they are all so appealing!!!

I like Isabela. Only polygamies character in games. Flirting with Tallis. "Oh I like where this is going ;)

I notice this too when I played with my male mage Hawke. Although ironically Isabela seems to be more jealous of female Hawke at times, especially when you flirt with Tallis. Like I say you only notice this type of "preferences" when it is near the PC, and that I think needs to change.

That's exactly how I feel about him too! The thing is, will you be able to leave him to his death on Virmire? 'Cause I've tried that too and just couldn't do it. Damn you Kaidan...! XD

Characters shouldn't be made to not hurt your feelings. I don't like Fenris hating mages. So what he should be changed to be nice. Or Isabela threatening to cut Hawke balls, it was awkward.
