Did you read my posts?

I think you're seeing a combative stance where there isn't one. I'm not upset about the number of romances - I'm irritated at the attitude of some people who seem to be enjoying the fact that straight males are unhappy. I personally think there's room for everyone to be happy. Except those who are attacking others for no reason, maybe.

Ultimately, this thread is about this discussion. If can't stomach people talking about their feelings on the matter in a largely civil way then I don't know what to tell you.

I did.

And I'm irritated at straight males (obviously not all but some) acting as though someone other than them getting the most romances for once is means to gnash at the teeth and rant about BW being bias while keeping their mouths shut when they didn't have to deal with having less options despite the game still being lopsided just in their favor. And they still have options. So yeah it aggravates me a little to see the group that's always been catered too acting like it's a big deal for someone else to get a smidge of attention for a change.

I'm not the one who told someone since they bought the game to not complain about unbalances.

It makes me wonder if there would be as much complaining if Cassandra had flowing locks, conventionally beautiful face, and was "cute" rather than a combat veteran. Or if Josephine looked like an exotically beautiful princess instead of looking more or less average/normal. Or if Sera were an option for straight guys. Are people complaining because they only have two choices, or because a lot of guys just don't want the "piece of garbage" "ugly" companions?

Personally, I think Cassandra and Josephine are 2 of the 3 most attractive options in the game(the other being Leliana).

The Sera argument I get because with her being female-only, straight male characters can only romance humans. That's a valid complaint in my opinion.

I wonder how much the whining would have lessened in the 2/4/2 had the 4 be bisexuals rather than heterosexuals. I know all these options ones would disappear since everyone would have 4, so an increase for everyone.

I would've preferred this if only everyone would've had equal options. It's why I wanted 2/2/2 so bad. Then they said there was 8 LIs >_>

And I'd probably be more willing to make a male elf for Solas. Maybe. Probably not but maybe.

The other part of my answer is that this 'you've always had 2 options' thing . . . its a skewed reasoning. In every other way, games over the years have grown in content. I think you get a more honest answer if you look at things this way . . . (forgive me if my numbers are a touch off, I haven't played any of the DA games in quite some time)

In DA:O there were four romance options, and two of them were available to straight men. That's fifty percent.

In DA 2 almost everyone was bisexual (was Sebastien? I can't recall, I didn't care for him much.) which means that straight males had two of five romances, which is fourty percent.

In DA:I, we get two romances of a potential eight. That's a fairly tiny twenty-five percent of the options being open to us.

You see, the games are getting bigger - they aren't stagnant. Our 2 options represents a proportionally much smaller number of options relative to the greater picture than it did in the other games.

I see what you mean . And I think it is a bit premature . Maybe you getting less when you expected more . But maybe also...these romance maybe better written . Wouldn't that tip your numbers if the romance are better written and more in depth and have more flirt and stuff then what we had in previous games ?

I didn't do those things.

I've always been in support of more options for everyone. I'm not gnashing my teeth or ranting. I'm discussing things in a civilized manner. Though you have no responsibility to do so, if you looked at my past posts (what few there are) you'd see I'm not even sure if I'm buying the game, and such was the case long before any of this romance business came up; I have no passion towards fruitless, infantile rants. Please don't try to colour me in that manner.

I'm not saying I want to take romances away from others.

I'm not saying I want to have more romance options than other orientations have.

I'm saying I want more romance options available to me than I currently have.

Why does that offend you? I'm not trying to take anything from you - I'm glad that some people are getting more options. For the other groups that are only getting two options in DA:I, I hope that they get more in the future as well. What this particular thread has been about is one particular group of people registering their dislike for the situation.

If I were acting puerile or hostile then I could understand your fury.

As it is, I might suggest you find a more worthy target then the people who have been discussing this in this thread. Most of them (not all, never all) have been really cool.

As another worthy poster suggested earlier, there is no shortage of jerks around. You'd have no trouble finding one that's actually deserving of your venom. Like . . . its frustrating, because you seem quite bright, and I'd like to hear what you have to say. But when you present your points in that manner its hard to get through all the sound and fury to find the content underneath.

Then if you didn't and I didn't direct my post towards you...you thought my post was aimed at you...why exactly? The money remark? Because the person I actually quoted agreed with it which is why I brought it up.

Cheers. Thanks for the answer!

I hope all the romances are well written, and I'm not actually personally upset about the number myself. I just think that the conversation would be clearer, and people would understand each other better if that 'you've always had 2 options' argument weren't both so prominent, and so obviously false.

Because in your first post you broached two topics in which I had been one of the primary participants in the discussion. Also, while your first post may not have been aimed at me (could've been my mistake) your latter ones certainly were. So it invalidates nothing.

While quoting someone who clearly wasn't you. The latter ones were yes because I figured you were leaping to defense of your argument. If it wasn't your argument my mistake...still begs the question why you jumped in the first place though. Oh wait. It was to be patronizing with that "I bought the game and don't blame other people for that remark." my mistake.

Least I'm honest about being well...me.

For the exact reason I just stated above. I was one of the primary participants in an ongoing conversation into which you entered.

You came into the thread with a very broad paintbrush, with some very nasty paint on it. I don't think it would be fair to fault the group you're trying to tarnish for speaking up.

I do see though that you're not much interested in engaging in a civil discussion right now. You're sort of just dodging about, responding to half a point here and half a point there without addressing anything I'm saying; I'm trying to engage you, and you keep just swinging for the fences. So for the moment I'll just be done with this.

Obviously.

Thank you for your insight into the topic, and into the greater issues that were being discussed, as well as the discussion of potential future games. Your contribution to the community with your well-phrased deductions, elucidating point of view, and frankly luminous mastery of the language is astounding.

I might also commend your ability to grasp what is going on around you, and the nature of forums and topics that are meant for discussion about the game.

You are a wonder. I am in awe. Will you sign my man-boobs?

I don't get it Option 4, if you don't care about the number of romances for Straight guys, or that others (Straight women) get 2 more options, why bring up the argument of  ‘They need to make me believe that its worth my money?’

Saying you get exactly what you got in previous games isn’t enough?  Just knowing others get more is enough for you to believe you’re not get ‘bang for your buck”?  Because that is the exact opposite of not caring.

Help me here, because frankly you do actually seem to be saying “I am getting cheated (and I'm using this term because you pulled out stats) out of something so I don’t owe Bioware my money”. But then take the argument that people telling you to ‘go elsewhere for your game if it’s not to your liking or that you are not getting value’ as an unreasoned response?

Because blaming me for buying a game with lopsided romances and daring to acknowledge that is all my fault right? Also I'm hardly "tarnishing" the thread. It was like that when I got here.

*shrug* by all means.

If you want to discuss what can be done in a future BW game? Sure. Complaining about this one though? Might as well swing for the fences. The game's romance content isn't going to suddenly be changed for a nice balanced 2/2/2 set. Or to favor the m/f players in the next few weeks. It's not happening.

I'd gladly participate in a thread about future game romances in a civil discussion. This on the other hand isn't much more than complaining at this point. (Which is actually well enough most of the time but I kind of lose my patience for it when it's done by a group that's usually given far more than it's fair share).

Oh yeah what a insightful topic.

They told me the whine was a reasonable vintage, and that it didn't come from the same barrel as that acrid, tannin filled crap from  last week!

They said it would be smooth, silky, structured and intellectually satisifying!

There's always going to be content in a game plenty of people don't use. Some won't use the MP that's content they're paying for that they're not using, some won't use romances, some won't use classes (people only play warriors *god only knows why*, mages, rogues so on). Some won't use origins (No dalish for me), some won't use CC options (I will never understand this but people play how they want to play), some will never talk to their companions unless it's necessary, so on.

You decide whether the sum of the parts of the game is worth it to purchase. I will most likely not play the Solas romance because no elves. Now my decision is simple. Is the rest of the game that is there worth my money? For me the answer is yes. It has nothing to do with how many options other people have as much as how many options I have. And for me 2 (or rather 4 since I don't mind playing dudes :3) options is more than enough romances for me to happily play.

...

Just for this you can say goodbye to the birthday cake :P

Please, for the love of God, stop using the 'you've always had two options' argument as some sort of justification for straight males not having more than two romance options. As I've mentioned in a previous post, yes, we had two options to choose from in both Origins and DA2, but in both of those games there were only four characters that could be romanced, so having two options was fine; in Inquisition there are eight characters that can be romanced yet we still only have two options. An increase of even just one isn't too much to ask for when you consider that pretty much everyone else has had their number of romance options increased from what they were in Origins and/or DA2 except for us. If you disagree with me, fine, but please don't use the 'you've always had two options' argument as it's so bloody asinine.

There are also only three female companions and two female advisors. The characters are decided first and the romances are decided later. It would be weird and off-putting if every single female character was there to be romanced and thus I can understand them not making Vivienne. Lesbian PCs also only get one exclusive option. An increase in one female option for a straight male romance would mean either making zero exclusive lesbian options or making every single female character romanceable. You can whine all you want about the argument that you have the same number of LI's as always but it's a valid argument. If BioWare hadn't added the two bonus romances for straight females in the extra year of development you would still have had two romances. Everyone would have had two, would you have complained then? What if they had used that year to cut Blackwall and Solas and make two new female LI's for straight men, would you have complained on behalf of straight women, lesbians, and gay men who got less options even though you got what you wanted? Someone other than you got a bonus for once, it's not going to kill you. Maybe next time straight guys will have more yet again, maybe gay guys will, maybe lesbians will, maybe they'll cut romances altogether due to the excessive drama and fan rage every time.
