Seriously though this is not the first thread complaining about m/f romances and I doubt it will be the last. Ultimately I'm just boggled by people seriously acting like they're slighted by having the same amount of options as 3 other groups and still having a choice of options. I mean I can get disappointment. That's fair enough. But some of the "BW should've catered to ME" is boggling (and it's from all variations of this thread not just this one).

 

Also having 2 options is pretty much my default lucky state so seeing straight males acting like it's such a burden is wow levels.

It was probably a bad one. Hakuoki is pretty good. Somewhat light on the romance too you are stuck playing a chick in the Edo period though and she can't fight get some historical background on that time period (obviously with modifications because the plot can't go exactly the way history did. Though she insists on dragging around a sword and causing me to facepalm because she's so useless with it.)

 

It was really good. Sweet Fuse is another in english really good one.

 

Alot of them are very bad I agree though. Way too much crapola like rape is love, abuse is love, stockholm syndrome and other gag worthy crap.

Since this is a romance suggestions thread this is on topic. One of the romances in Hakuoki does involve a guy Okita that's dying from tuberculosis (much like the guy he's based off of) it was tragic and sad and didn't feel cheap. (Also that ending always has my lip quibble and his sad ending is the only one that comes with 2 CGs and it broke my heart so thoroughly in a good way though). You learn about his sickness by overhearing him talking about it with the doctor, he puts on a strong face, he's still capable of fighting (mostly due to plot coupon that actually has a perfect negative side effect so it doesn't feel like a get out of jail free card). But he's breaking down by doesn't let it completely take over his life because he has debts he wants to repay and he wants to help his friends. His reaction to his father figure dying was  

 

Come to think of it...if Blackwall's romance is closer to his than Thane's I'll enjoy it. I could use less "I'm gonna kill you if you don't keep my group's secrets" in the beginning though...so there's that.

Yes I have. I never played it though because I'm not into Bishoujo. I heard it was depressing though.

The only one you openly sleep with and get knocked up by is the only without extra baggage.). Otherwise...they're going to turn into a pile of ashes or just...drop dead in sick guys case >_>

I included her for completionist sake! Though ugh I don't wanna list the SWTOR LIs. Most of them suck anyway. No thank you. (God Mako's hitting on my dude made me so damned uncomfortable. WHY DID YOU NEED TO HIT ON ME FIRST. WHY. and my only options were douche rejections or come hither winks. Screw. DAT *pressed douche rejection with the force of a thousand suns) Still. She wasn't *that* bad in ME3. Well at least it was the most bearable version of her multiple personalities. Which...isn't saying much I know.

How about we start an origin/game married/in another relationship and we have to deal with the fallout bound to come from such.

 

The marriage/relationship could have been done for political/financial reasons and we can be unhappy in it, but its still some new ground I'd like to see.  Anything but another shoulder to cry on/defrosting the ice queen

I wouldn't mind starting a game married. Especially not if you could choose to develop the relationship from purely political reasons to a better match or choose to stay married while having your affairs on the side. Maybe the marriage could be restricted to a certain origin so it's avoidable to players if you really don't want it.

 

I just want some defrosting ice kings damnit. Why is that trope always with BW females. *grumbles* And Fenris was too hostile to count as a defrosting ice king. His stoic description got me all happy but nope. It wasn't to be T_T

 

So a origin like the human noble starts off married for political reasons, said husband/wife could be a npc romance option with the companions as the usual options (with some gated against affairs most likely that'd make sense) and throughout the game you can see your LI/spouse's reactions to your behavior? Something like that?

It makes me wonder if there would be as much complaining if Cassandra had flowing locks, conventionally beautiful face, and was "cute" rather than a combat veteran. Or if Josephine looked like an exotically beautiful princess instead of looking more or less average/normal. Or if Sera were an option for straight guys. Are people complaining because they only have two choices, or because a lot of guys just don't want the "piece of garbage" "ugly" companions?

I'd argue that it's more about her specific design rather than her type. There is a large number of people who found her attractive in DA2 and don't find her attractive now. (I am part of that group.)

 

I don't mind combat veteran-type girls, short hair or scars. Some people say that those are indeed the reasons they find her unattractive, but I think they are probably incorrect, meaning that they find her unattractive, then look for reasons for why that is the case and end up incorrectly projecting their feelings on things like short hair or scars.

 

The 'problem' (if you will) is with her bone structure, eye + eyebrow placement, etc.. There's just something 'off' about her face. It's almost uncanny valley material. Luckily, this kind of thing should be easily fixable by a mod.

 

Some guys don't want the character who responds to everything by scowling and pulling knives on it. Her fans were recently boiling her essence down to "hard-ass" on her thread.

 

Hard-ass lacks the broad appeal of other archetypes. The super realistic character design did the rest.

I'm not sure about that. Having a big jaw and pronounced chin doesn't make the design more realistic. The scars and the messed up hair do. But the second part is hardly the problem. I like the scar and she can take a shower for the hair. It's the first part that doesn't sit well with me. There are women with big jaws that I like and others I don't. Cassandra is one of the latter. 

 

I agree with the hardass thing though. Imo she didn't sound like that in DA2. She sounded more inquisitive, patient and smart, and the white hair she had earlier were really agreeable with the concept.
