I have Windows Service Pack 2 on my computer. I was looking at the system requirements for Mass Effect 2 on the gamestop website and it said I needed Service Pack 3. I tried updating my computer but I keep getting an error message. Is there anyway to play Mass Effect 2 on Service Pack 2? Will it just crash? I REALLY want to get it, and I need help! Thanks in advanced!
What happens when I play the game on Windows XP SP2? Help!

Also Windows XP Service Pack 3 is a free Windows Update to all LEGITIMATE XP owners and it helps patch and fix even more security vulnerabilities than SP 2. There is NO reason for Windows XP owners to not update to it. Therefore, I suggest (I hope you are using a genuine Windows XP installation), to update to SP 3 that that will solve everything. As I said, there is NO reason to NOT update to SP 3.

you can download a stand alone SP3 installer from the MS download center
try using that rather then the default windows update

it should work just fine, it has been said that if you could play ME1, that you can play ME2, and i played ME1 on SP2 without much in noticable bugs. hope this helps.

They may have done a lot of the testing using sp3 so can't guarantee that it will work on sp2.
I think Dragon Age worked on sp2. There was only an issue with the toolset.

Man, I don't want to update until I have a whole new system.

PC requirement is listed as
Win XP SP3 / Vista SP1 / Win 7
it means these are the OS they tested the game on and for all intents and purposes ME2 will work on these 3 OS versions. They just can't guarantee it because there are millions of combination of PC hardware and software
