Well the move I mentioned belongs in an episode of the Power Rangers, or something. If you love it, great. I won't use that ability because I will struggle to take the story serious because of it. End of discussion.

So does spinning around in a sword with a weapon to do critical damage to all surrounding enemies. Both moves belong in an episode of power rangers. They are both equally cartoony.

Not to beleaguer the point, but what about when enemies use it against you?

Lore first.

at what point in the lore does it say that splitting the earth with a two-hander is not possible?

Golden rule of fantasy writing. Unless the writer explains otherwise, the world works as our world. Its kind of the whole point of the lore and the codex - to explain how things work in Thedas. If swords could create huge shockwaves and make long gashes in the ground there would be no need for plows and farming tools, would there? You could plow a whole field in seconds with a sword.

More like you don't have much ground to talk on the point and you want to wiggle out. The point still stand they are both equally cartoony and most abilities as far as dao are cartoony.

Explain the champion specialty?

How does yelling knock people down based on what stated in the lore?

Wouldn't it be pointless to try to cut a tree down if I can yell at it enough for it to fall down?

Ugh I hate those ridiculous moves, I know this is fantasy and stuff but really? I open the ground using my sword and send a shockwave? <_< It's the same sort of crap like ninja-templars in full plate jumping out of the sky like some acrobats or friggin power rangers.

Explained it plenty to you allready. You are just baiting for some argument, or something. Not interested.

Some abilities in DA:O does stretch the belivability, sure. This here goes way overboard with flash, sparkles and over the top animation.

As I said its a threshold. Different players have different ones.

Quite right. Its a dumb ability. And guess what? I didn't use it because of it. Just because a previous game has a ****** move in it, doesn't mean its a good idea to add more and take it further.

Not some, most. I given time I can list them. Heck, we even have ability that make characters look like disco balls. Most abilities are over the top for dao.

Dude, most abilities are like that. There are very little abilities that are close to being realistic. It's pointless to even try to divide or look down on abilities base on how they look. This is a video game. Combat has never been lore friendly.

Actually most rpgs stay true to the lore when it comes to combat. Not many recent ones, I agree. If you enjoy this sort of stuff its all good. I don't.

You do know that's a rogue specialty in DAI TO BE A ninja-templar

I am so glad they added a block. That is going to make the combat sooooooooooo much more engaging and just all around better. Especially if enemies can block your attacks too.

I finally don't have to watch my warrior just take hit after hit and stand there not even attempting to block or avoid the blow.

2 handed tree got a block?... well at last its a timed block because it drains stamina the longer you have it on.

They are all in the lore and the d&d rules.

Hide in Shadows isn't about not being seen. It is more about not being noticed. Wich is why you can use it in a room full of people. It can be used for several things, really. Given the situation. But not being noticed\or not being seen at all is the main use for it.

Ultima is a sci-fi\fantasy hybrid. The villain in U3 is a computer...Lasers are very much in the lore. There is even a guy in a space suit on the cover....holding a laser pistol. You haven't really played Ultima, have you?

The reasons why games are moving past the ridiculous rule of having to explain why everything in the gameplay is possible is due to gameplay-story segregation which allows the game makers to make a game that players outside of the normal rpg group find visually appealing. with the expansion of the video game industry it has become important to try to gather as many players as they can. DnD style rule sets are dying out with more and more rpgs deviating.

Sad, but true. Its more a casual thing now. Which is why, I suspect, most of the focus is on combat now a days.

Rule set. What in dear name keeps you invisible or unable to see. I mean you walk in front of some one and they can't see you for some reason.

And rule sets are not lore friend, an ability or a move is not powered by you rolling a 20.

Added, Ultima's world has no way of making or powering these items, why are they even there.

Seriously, with video game rpg in combat realistic and making sense are never ground lines. to what is put in combat.

I just explained that too you. The game shows you as "shaded" when you are in that mode. The more people in the room, the higher the DC of succeeding, etc.

Just saying that, in most rpgs, what the lore says is possible, is thereby possible in combat.

Read the lore or play the games, and you will find out why they are there. They disapeared after the third game too, I belive. With good reason.

Laser weapons were part of the earlier games, yes. What is your point? The lore explained those weapons and they were part of the world. You are grasping at straws, mate.
