You're in a debate with someone on some issue, whether you like the upcoming companions, whether you support elves or not in gaining a homeland, whether mages or templars are more to blame for the chantry's schism or whatnot, and you actually agree with the person you're arguing with but keep arguing with them for the sake of arguing?

Or you know you agree with them in principle, but argue because you misread their tones? Or disagree on the small details on how the larger principle should be implemented?

I always ask, "is this an argument?" and "what are we arguing about?" happens often enough for me.  I'll say something but I mistake a detail and someone will point it out without ever actually talking about what I was meaning to talk about.

I also think you are wrong btw.  :P

The thing ive learned while lurking. People often bring RL valuesband equalvelents andbuse them as facts which can be misread either by context or too much emotion. The BSN is a fan site with a lot of voices talking at once so while trying to keep up you miss some things. We are not all bad or rude just get caught up RPing.

No, I can't say I have ever experienced that.   To me, a forum represents a place where I can give MY outlook and thoughts on the subjects at hand.    I am only here to give voice to those views.    I have no desire to try to 'convince' anyone else to view the topics similarly to me.

People have tried arguing with me in the past, but I just dismiss it.    They won't convince me anymore than I would sway them.   People should just voice their opinion on a topic and move on.    Arguing over it, isn't going to change peoples opinions on the matter.   If nothing else, it usually just solidifies their opinions.

i don't get into a whole lot of arguements here, most of the time its people having different opinions, what i don't like is almost everyone with their blind hate for the games or things in the games. some posted about the two handed warrior abilities today, like 3 replies into the thread its a bunch of people talking about how horrible it is. it would be nice to see some pleasant threads in this place...

Half a dozen of one and six of another.... whatever suits my fancy at a moment. If I don't leave them foaming at the mouth angry I'm not doing my job.

Nope. I'm right and they're wrong. *Refuses to stray from delusions*

No, that would be a waste of time.  I don't continue arguing if I realize I'm wrong, I admit it and allow my views to change if someone presents a good enough case.

Heh, happened to me once. Was debating with Emperor about how to reform the Circle so Templars are more accountable, and we spent a great deal of time arguing over it, only to come to the conclusion a few pages later that we were essentially arguing for the same thing but both of us had gotten too passionate to think clearly.

:P  Well, at least you realized it in the end... better than walking away without coming to that conclusion, right?

Argue for the sake of arguing, nah.

Or disagree on the small details on how the larger principle should be implemented?

This all the time though.

No, it is pointless to continue arguing even for the sake of debate if I'm wrong I'll admit it and just move on, and sometimes other people present a better case than mine. I feel like I'm also learning something new, and I would feel like a self centered bigot if I refuse to admit that my point has a flaw. However In case I'm right and other people just looking for a fight rather than exchanging knowledge I'll also stop because to continue arguing with them would be a waste of time.
