Are you going to try to RP a different gender for a LI?

I'm so shallow that I can't play as a male character if they're not aesthetically and aurally pleasing to me, and because my preference is more "feminine" men, I'm usually having some trouble roleplaying as guys. Hopefully, DA:I's character creator and Jon Curry will change that. Also Dorian's romance.

I tried it, to romance Anders as a male Hawke in DA2. It didn't work at all for me.

I ended up romancing him in my first DA2 file by sheer accident.

Haven't tried romancing anyone as self-righteous as him since.

Heh that can be a turn off indeed. Actually I liked the romance and I love Anders despite the fact I'll never be able to stand a guy like that in real life. He has a lot of qualities I really dislike but I also have an empathy for. he's very polarising, I find that makes for a good character.

Absolutely! I never usually roll a male but the Dorian and Cass romances interest me enough to play as one. So far DA:I is the only game where I've actually wanted to try out most of the romances!

I'm curious... for those who don't like roleplaying and rather play themselves within the game, do you only do one or two playthroughs? or if you do multiple playthroughs as a self insert, how do you vary the experience if at all?

I mentioned that I was an Asexual and planned to do (hopefully) an Asexual inquisitor playthrough with Solas. This isn't a self-insert inquisitor, I have written up a specific Dalish mage for this, she has different views than I. Also, a different personality. I never really do self-insert characters in RPG's because I play the games to get away from reality, but I usually write up character sheets in advance.

As for the confirmation that you could skip the "sex scene" and still get the Achievement, I read somewhere that you could. Although, I'm having a hard time remembering where I found it. I don't remember if the Solas Discussion fourm mentioned it. I do remember that Asexuality was brought up in a romance discussion with David Gaider awhile back and it was talked about briefly.

In DAO the Warden didn't have to consent to sex to get the achievement for a completed romance, but in DA2, Hawke and their LI do end up having sex no matter how you respond in the romances scenes. I'm pretty sure DA:I will let you have the option to skip it or talk around it.

I seem to remember the devs saying this isn't so for all romances and only some will proceed without sex. I'm looking forward to seeing this in game, regardless of what choices I end up making. Maybe one day we can even have ace characters.

Wow, I didn't know that. I would say that I have a feeling Solas will be one of those characters that will be able to proceed without sex. But, he has surprised us with being the Race-gated romance and only available for Females for Story reasons. It makes me wonder what that story is.

Hopefully, we will. I would like to have that conversation with a LI about not having sex and how that effects the relationship. Even if Solas does end up being the "Proceed with sex" romance, I wouldn't mind. I just want to know if it will be "tasteful", I suppose.

Yes. That's the only way I can get Cass to love me.

Well don't quote me on it heh I could be mistaken, I don't wanna spread misinformation. :) Perhaps someone else can confirm or deny.

David did talk about considering Asexual romance in future and that if they did it he wanted to get it right. I appreciate that they're trying to be as inclusive as they can. Wish more devs felt the same, I mean most have issues portraying women for a start. :( Anyway I don't wanna derail this thread into a women in gaming discussion.

I suspect that we might not be able to predict which LI's will be able to have "completed" romance arcs without sex scenes.  We've been surprised by a bunch of the decisions that the writers have made already.

Take a character like Iron Bull.  He seems like someone that people could assume will require a sex scene.  But I could also very easily see a scenario where the Inquisitor makes him "wait" for her/him and this lack of physical connection leads to a very different type of romance plot with him.

Who know, I guess.

That's fine, I just get to thinking even if it does end up being that way I get curious on who it could be etc.

Yeah, I hope my post didn't derail the topic. As far as the thread goes, I'll be trying out a Male Inquisitor for Cassandra.. Or maybe even Dorian. He seems to be an interesting character, being the "Redeemer". But I do have a soft spot for Cassandra, I like tough female characters :) it would be nice to see her perhaps soften up in a romance.

For an LI? No. If I decide to play female Inquistor, I'll probably romance Josephine, who's also my favorite romance option for a male Inquisitor. If I do decide to do a playthrough where I play a woman and romance a female-only LI, it's going to be because I wanted to play a woman and saw that it opened up the opportunity, rather than a case where I played as a woman because I wanted the LI.

Probably. I've wanted to #tapthatcass since I encountered her in DA2.

However, it'll depend on the CC and making a male face which is aesthetically pleasing and finding a VO I enjoy listening to. Only after extensive modding of DAO did I finally getting around to making a few male protagonists (for Morrigan and..er... King Me!) but I haven't actually finished the game with either of them yet. I've started and stopped my playthroughs with M!Hawke.

It's low on the priority list. I'll likely try all the different class and race combos with a female PC before I roll up a guy. Then again, I may find a character I really click with or a story hook in the setup that really gels with me like Conobar, the Lord of Highever and Flemeth, the Witch of the Wilds redux with M!Cousland and Morrigan or the continuity of M!Dalish Elf, Morrigan, and the Eluvian in Witch Hunt. I plan on romancing Cullen at least once on an Mage/F!Amell import for this reason. Whether it'll have to be manufactured in the Keep or not is another question entirely.

So, too soon to say. We'll see.

Yes! Actually I'm always checking all the possible romance options, so I have a lot of different characters males and females, and every one of them has their own story :)

I've never been able to truly enjoy a game where I had to play as the opposite gender. I just can't identify with it. I actually didn't finish The Witcher because of this. So, I'll play as the straight female that I am.
