I know I'll be rolling characters in multiple combinations of gender/race/sexuality. I did this in DAO and DA2, so I don't imagine that will change in DAI. While the romances have something to do with that, it's a broader thing for me. I want to see all the content I possibly can (romance or no), and that means rolling different Inquisitors than what directly represents me IRL. With the estimated length of the game, it will probably take me quite a while to get through all the Inquisitors I want to play, but I'm cool with that. I played DAO and DA2 for over a year after they were released, so unless I end up really disliking DAI for some unknown reason, the same will happen with this game, too,
Are you going to try to RP a different gender for a LI?

Unless their story(ies) interests me enough on my first run, nope.

I usually only ever play female characters if there is an achievement exclusive to them. Otherwise I always play male characters.

I can assure you that something like a mental gender switch is possible. I can't do m/m, but if I really project myself into the world as a woman things become interesting. And possible. Quite probably a mental orientation switch is also possible but I haven't managed that yet. Not as a man, anyway, and even as a woman it's much more difficult than a gender switch.Perhaps? I'm uncertain.
I played Mass effect as a female once though I couldn't bring myself to romance anyone. Probably the same would happen here, simply because I can't put myself in the shoes of wanting another man. That is not a comfortable thought to me.

Nah, Cassandra isn't even remotely interesting enough to do that.
Dorian is a better sell but still, nah.

Yup. For Sera.
Wouldn't be the first time as I play female characters often anyway.

I'm a man but at least half of my characters in DA end up being female, for whatever reason. In DA:I, I really like the characters of Blackwall and Solas , so I'll roll a female human and elf for them, respectively. I also find the unlikely combination of a female Qunari mage pretty interesting, so 3/5 of my planned Inquisitors will be women.

Probably, but not necessarily specifically for the LI, since I'd be interested in seeing any other unique gender-based content.

I might RP my own gender for an LI. Depending on how I like the relevant characters and how often I play the game.

Why not? If the game is worth replaying, its certainly worth seeing all the options on. No different than any other Bioware game really.

I'm actually planning on rolling the same gender, which is actually a first for me in Bioware games since the days of Baldur's Gate 1! I'm male IRL, and heterosexual to boot, and I nearly always play heterosexual or bisexual female characters in Bioware games. Barring my Bhaalspawn Elmina, who was forever alone due to me not realising Anomen was a romance until 10 years after the game came out, I've basically played women romancing men or occasionally women. Czarna Shepard went for Liara, and then Garrus (and then Garrus again). Kalian Tabris romanced Alistair, and then Zevran when Alistair dumped her. Marian Hawke was all about the Fenris, and occasionally the Isabela, but mostly the Fenris. I never played NWN or Jade Empire. I think Revan romanced Carth, and then had Bastilla kill him, but that's another story.
In DA:I I was planning on playing a female Qunari, but other than possibly Blackwall I'm not really feeling the available options for her. Solas is elf-only, and unless Sera really surprises me I suspect I won't like her much (I generally dislike her character 'type'). As a guy I get the choice of both Cassandra and Dorian.
My second playthrough will be a female elf with Iron Bull, though, because I clearly have a fetish. I'd go IB first time round but I really want to play a qunari and qunari/qunari pairings are boring.
I'll wait and see, though. If the game really is 150+ hours I might not even do a second run. I don't have as much free time as I once did.

I might roleplay a Female Mage to romance Cullen.
Weird, I know.

Yep. Just so i can Romance Blackwall (whooo hooo) and maybe another play through as a female mage so i can see the Cullen Romance and see what was so special about it.

I've tried to play male Hawke/Shep/Warden. I start enthusiastically in the character creator thinking I can roleplay a character that is wildly different from me, thinking I can try out the gender-locked romances or see how different the dialogue is. The longest I've lasted is an hour before I'm back rolling another character. The truth is I'm really less of a role-player and more of a me-player, even down to my characters usually ending up with black hair and brown eyes. I wish it were otherwise because then maybe I could play some of those male-protagonist-only games out there while I wait for Bioware or Bethesda to make a new one.
I will of course be trying out all the romances that are available to female characters f/f and f/m, but even that is still me-playing I suppose.

Yes. It will be the first time I will play as a male, when we have a gender option in a game, and it is to romance Dorian. I have done same sex relationships as a female in DA2 and Mass Effect.

Of course, I do it all the time! I usually have a pretty equal number of male and female characters in BioWare games (except for Mass Effect because male Shep's voice sounds like a robot).

The struggle of lesbian gamers is real.
I want Cassandra
But don't want to have Cassandra with male.
Was crushed to find out this is the case but...
Cassandra.
This is Jack and Miranda all over again for me.

Probably not. I don't really "role-play" very well, or consistently. I only played a woman in Origins after I'd finally talked myself out of finding Alistair attractive. Something like that might (will almost certainly) happen again. Of the straight men, I'm primarily interested in Solas, and I'd have to play a Dalish for that. I don't love (can't tolerate) compulsory face-tattoos, so that's one more thing limiting the appeal of doing that. I'm not interested in having an Inquisitor "romance" Sera (or the other women) either.
I guess I'll see. But no, almost certainly not.

I always play the opposite gender in RPGs and I will not create a character of the same gender as me just to romance a particular character. I did it once in ME2 and it turned out to be extremely boring.

the real question is will i play Dalish female. Dalish origin does not really resonate for me, but i might be willing to give that a whirl...

I usually play an even split of males and females. As I find all female companions/advisers to be unattractive and all romance options for straight females (except maybe Iron Bull) rather compelling, I might actually play more females than males in DA:I.
One Qunari male warrior, one female human rogue, one female elven mage, I guess.
