wouldn't be the first time.

The games, or the good games that offer the opportunity to play as either gender usually have different options and avenues of play in order to achieve the same means. This just extends the games life more so, so it has nothing to really do with sexuality when it comes to me. I myself have never romanced a male/male relationship as I just don't see the need to, as most games i've played don't offer much difference in terms of story topics when such a thing happens. In other words it doesn't change much of the story from my experience, including girl on girl (though i have done girl on girl because the other options were done or i didn't like, talking about you Kaiden).

Also i just have this weird quirk, I like powerful women, a girl who is equal to a man in every way in terms of their ability to be strong, powerful or a leader is kind of erotic to me, especially if they are attractive to boot. The majority of my favorite superheroes are women (Wonder Woman, Power Girl, Supergirl some versions of her, Cassandra Cain, all of whom share the attributes I mentioned.) this isn't to say i don't have male ones, or don't play male characters, but I guess I play whatever gears me toward what i want to see on screen the most. In Inquisition a lot of options are geared toward certain races or genders, so there is that to. So to see all aspects of the game, it's likely you will at some point decide to play a member of the opposite sex to see how the game differs, that is if you are open minded enough.

Mainly interested in rolling females elves for Cullen and Solas, a female dwarf for Sera, and a female Qunari or human for Blackwall.

Almost exactly what im doing, I plan on rolling a Elf for Solas, Human for Cullen, and a Qunari for Sera, and a Dwarf Blackwall.

I have always changed up the genders of my Wardens and Hawkes, so I will definitely adventure again through Thedas as both male & female Inquisitors of every race.

I haven't decided which love interests to pursue in advance as it is usually the events of each individual characters voyage that prompts me to decide who among the available options floats my boat. There have been many times where I intentionally set out to woo a certain character, and crafted the necessary main hero to insure that attraction, only to have some unexpected quirk of storytelling content shift my attentions elsewhere.

That for me is one of the strengths of the DA franchise. You get not only the thrill of discovery, but with a little effort - and despite any preconceptionss - surprises occur that alter the best laid plans.

I might, for Cass and Dorian. And I guess maybe Josephine... And maybe just to see if anything changes in the Bull romance.

Depending on how much I like them in the game.

I was already planning to RP a different gender for one of my characters. The fact that the LI I'd hoped for her is only available to women is just something that makes that a little more convenient in this instance.

Male, heterosexual married father of two boys. No problem playing a female - in fact I probably enjoyed my FemSheps more than my BroSheps. I'll be rolling male Cassandramancer first time around but I will definitley be rolling a female on Round 2 to try and tame Sera. She has naughty lips.

However more radical for me than playing a different gender is that I am tempted to try the Dorian romance if I can manage a third playthrough. I'm intrigued by his character and a m/m romance is new ground for me as a male gamer. Thats assuming Josephine doesn't charm me off my feet.

Honestly if a romanceable character is bi, I tend to prefer pursuing the same sex route (for both f/f and m/m) just because I can do with seeing more diversity when I get the chance. I'm myself straight (+Ace/Aro-ish) and I don't know how common it is among straight players such as myself, but I'm a bit tired of heterosexual romances cos that's all I see all the time. That said, my first playthrough will be as a straight female elf romancing Cullen, cos I just wanna.

I'm going to play a male elf inqusitior to romance Dorian. That said, I usually play at least one male playthrough in a game. For instance, I played a male Hawke in DA2 to romance Anders, because I find some of his stalkerish behaviours less loaded with real world context when applied to men. Also, I like that a male Hawke gets to roleplay the fact that Anders's first love was Karl, seeing him die, knowing about it.

I'd never do it on my first game, though, which is making me sad because Dorian is my favourite!

I'll probably roll a male character to romance Dorian and maybe Cass. I generally have a male pc playthrough or two, just for variety's sake.

the gender of my characters is usually decided by a cointoss, then i let them be (unless i'm proyecting myself too much, but to do that the coin must favor my own gender)

I accept that there are straight guys who almost always play females, but I don't grasp the psychology behind it.

I play female characters. Just never as my first play-through. Playing as a woman distracts me from the story, as I inevitably end up role-playing the character more than observing the world around me. My first play-through tends to be as close to "me" as I can get for that reason. Female characters inevitably end up very far away from "me" in terms of how I characterize them.

I would not gender-bend just to romance a character, however. If one of my female playthroughs (I'm thinking a female Elf and Dwarf so I can use both female voices) clicks with Sera, that's cool, but one or both might end up heterosexual, or not work with her due to personality differences. I won't kow until I start playing the character.

I think one of the reasons the devs did not expect the angst-fest over Sera being a Lesbian is that they thought more of the male audience wanted to play as females than actually do.

Glad I'm not the only one who was bothered by it. Yeah, I personally don't like fem Hawke with Anders either. I never liked how Anders talked to/about women in both Awakening and DA2, and I really didn't like that he felt the need to hide his relationship with Karl to a fem Hawke (from a real world context it felt like he avoided it only cos she might think he's gay or something, which I don't like. Plus it felt like bi erasure from the writers a lil bit). I'm happy I romanced him as a male Hawke and I even consider that playthrough my main world state.

Well you said it yourself. It's basically based on whether you're happy role-playing or not. Like me, for example, I can rarely self-insert in a character driven game like this cos I don't find it that much fun. But I like roleplaying as I'm more likely to enjoy the story if I can imagine alternative characters even if they are at times based loosely on my own personality. It's all fine, people will do what they enjoy.

That makes sense. I know guys who basically always play female characters, though. As in, get irritated if they are forced to play a male for some reason.

Nope. All the characters I might want to romance are available to women (Sera, Solas, Josephine, and Iron Bull) so I'm good.

Even if it weren't the case, I probably wouldn't. I LOVE Morrigan of DA:O, and STILL bemoan how she is unavailable to romance for female players, but I never felt strongly enough to play a male character to romance her. I tried, but never made it to Ostagar, so I just settled for those I could romance. Even if there was one character I wanted to woo more than the game itself, I don't think I could roll as a male character. I'd stay female and see who else is on the list.

I'm a straight male and both my head canon Warden and Hawke are lesbian females, my female warden romanced leliana and my female hawke romanced isabela so I will have no prob;em playing a female inquisitor to romance Sera, I will also do a playthrough to romance Josephine as a female. I used to always play as a self insert male in both DAO and DA 2 and it just got boring, REALLY boring to the point that playing the games was just a chore so I decided to change things up and now I enjoy the games much more, I mean that's the whole point of role playing.

On my third playthrough, I'm thinking of making the most feminine male qunari ever.  And I'm going to make him romance/seduce cassandra.

It will be glorious.

I like playing both genders in games, particularly in RPGs.  For me, as to who I play as depends on the feel of the game and the voice acting (if there is any).   I didn't start playing the DA games till mid 2012, so I didn't know much about them before I started playing them.  So the choice of protagonist I made had nothing to do with the love interests, it was more that I wanted to play as those characters.  I find that if I play as a female character, I tend to make decisions I would make.  As a male character, I find I tend to take more risks.

My first play through was a female elf mage in DAO (who eventually romanced Alistair). However in DA2, my first play through was a male Hawke (who romanced Anders).  To this day, I still haven't played a female Hawke, nor do I have a desire to.

I want my first Inquisitor to be the same gender, race and class as my first Warden, just because it feels right.  The choice of LI has not influenced this (I know she will have a choice of 6, but it really didn't influence this!)  But I am definitely planning a male Inquisitor play through next just because of Dorian (more so after seeing the Ramon Tikaram video).  His voice is lush!

if there's a romance that gets as acclaimed as the Garrus romance I might do it, otherwise I'll probably do it just for other reasons

I'm already accustomed to playing men romancing ladies, despite being a heterosexual female myself. I haven't romanced a male as a male though, no - partly because I often don't like the male companion romances, nor have I often romanced a female LI with a female PC because I rarely play females. That said, I do have plans to at least romance Dorian with one of my Inquisitors - probably my Dalish. I like what I've seen of him so far and I might actually find his romance interesting. Sera's also looking like a lot of fun, so I might eventually play a female for her too. As it currently stands, my first play will be a male dwarf with Cassandra, then either my human female with Iron Bull or male qunari with Josephine for the second play.

this a role playing game.  I step into the shoes of the character I create. I would miss out on a whole heck of a lot of game play if I only played the game according to what I am in real life.  Not only will I create the opposite gender, but also different races and  different sexual orientations to see all the romances.

Usually I play as a male (same as in RL) and go with female LI.

This time I will play my first play-trough as a female inquisitor and it will also be my first F/F game romance ever.

Why? Mainly because of Sera who seems such a nice character and because she is an elf. Just cannot say no to elves especially female ones (Merrill was great too).

For the second play-trough I will probably go with my usual male option and romance Cass but just maybe cos I just have this picture of her in my head when she is always bossing my poor inquisitor around and saying: do that, do this, no not good enough...  :crying:
