Honestly if a romanceable character is bi, I tend to prefer pursuing the same sex route (for both f/f and m/m) just because I can do with seeing more diversity when I get the chance. I'm myself straight (+Ace/Aro-ish) and I don't know how common it is among straight players such as myself, but I'm a bit tired of heterosexual romances cos that's all I see all the time. That said, my first playthrough will be as a straight female elf romancing Cullen, cos I just wanna.

Same here, I'm a hetero(Ace) woman and I find that romancing f/f or m/m with Bisexual LI's to be more refreshing to see. Solas seems to be my perfect choice for an asexual inquisitor. Especially since you can skip the "sex scene" and still get the achievement.

I was going play as female qunari warrior regardless, but I also wanted to romance Cullen with her just because it is so...heatheness. But with Cullen, I'll just play as female dalish mage.

I'll be doing this for both Sera and Iron Bull. And I'll give Dorian a try at least once....I wouldn't call Cullen a romance considering I'll be skipping over all his dialogue in order to get it over with as quickly as possible for only the sake of the achievement.

For Sera, I might. I mean, who wouldn't, right?

Oh was this confirmed? Must have missed it.

I don't think it's been confirmed which characters can have their romances continued without sex. Only that "some" of them can. Then again, I haven't been in the Solas thread since his romance announcement, so maybe I missed something.

Yep. I've rolled a female Warden and Champion, will do the same for an Inquisitor. To romance Sera.

EDIT: Should clarify that I haven't rolled any of the previous characters for romances. Just for perspective. My Warden ended up with Leliana and the Champion with Merrill, FWIW.

Surprised people don't actually do this. I've exhausted about every LI I could in the series by playing a bunch of different protags. After I finish Verae, I'm hitting the Human Male Mage side up for Dorian-ing.

I'm curious... for those who don't like roleplaying and rather play themselves within the game, do you only do one or two playthroughs? or if you do multiple playthroughs as a self insert, how do you vary the experience if at all?

As someone who used to be very into self-inserts, I would like to answer!

When I would play myself, I made one character to use as a self-insert and only played through once. Had to make adjustments since I'm neither rich, a mage, or a strange purple color(Black is NOT handled well in Origins). When I ran self, I picked a mage who was rather open minded and had a thing for white redheads with short hair accents(Like I do!). He was also very outspoken on being free from the chantry and an open flouter of the estalishment(What I truly am and wish to be). Very sure that I'm rambling but whatever.

So yeah, that is how I ran when I was a self.

Ah I see, I always find it interesting people are able to do that and have fun cos I can't seem to be able to for whatever reason. I've tried self inserting. At times (usually my first female character) I draw influence from how I look myself but they never turn out well or I just end up tweaking it so much they look nothing like me. Many of my characters tend to share my social/moral/ethical viewpoints, but regardless of what I do the character ends up having a mind of their own and the end character only has a passing resemblance to me. I don't know, I guess I just don't know how to do it lol.

Gurl I will play every possible race/class/gender/sexuality/LI combo there is! (unless the game somehow sucks, then I will just cry).

FOR a romance no, but it's somewhat important, as I always run (at least) one male playthrough for variety's sake, and then I always choose a LI that is not available for female protagonists; i.e. I would never choose Leliana for my male Warden or Liara for my male Shepard, because I can experience their romance arcs in my female playthroughs, and I have PLENTY of those. It would just seem like a waste of time, maybe some dialogue differs slightly for m/f, but I just know I will probably never bring myself to complete a second male playthrough (I gave up on trying, when there's more than 1 exclusively male option, I usually wait and watch the remaining ones on YouTube), so I prefer to experience something 100% new, something not available to my female characters.

So... romance is going to take some careful planning this time. It's a choice between Cass and Dorian for my one male Inquisitor, I haven't decided yet, but at the moment I'm leaning toward Dorian. But I guess I'll see who I like better after my first female run.

I'll likely play a female qunari at some point, and will take the oppourtunity to try Sera's romance.

Nope.

Cass isn't appealing to me, Sera isn't my type of gal and Josie is just looking like a good friend. Liara was hecka adorable in ME but never once did I switch teams to romance just 1 character. Besides... Sir BeefCakes and Solas!

As someone who tends to play people who are like myself but vastly superior in every respect, I play it whenever I have the desire to see the story again, not unlike reading a book more than once.

Generally, I prefer a single story to be canon and spend a lot of time trying to figure out which would be the best.

I do like to role play....what can be blocking at least to me , is often 1)Personality and 2) voice actor .

In my self-insert....honestly , the only part of ME in the charachter is their belief . I don't think I look Qunari or Elf like lol So yeah , I make them how I like them so never like how I look in real life . But their belief...will match mine . Doesn't mean I cant play opposite of me....but I need a good reason to get out of my confort zone and play say..someone evil without moral...or someone extremely money hungry .

I always try to role play last , my first playtrough and lot after..will be to run what I like and romance who I like the most . In DAO...I romanced the hell out of Leliana..until I grow bored , then I decided to try Alistair and see it for myself . There are some romance..I won't try (not in DAI) but in others...merely...either the charachter personality is way too insuffrable...or their belief put me off .

I usually play both male and female characters and romances will depend on who I think they'll be awesome with given how I play.

Well, as a guy I play almost strictly female characters and play f/f romances in games where there is a choice and if forced male take the route which is most flirtatious with men just short of romance. I will usually do multiple runthroughs as a female but will shrug at the male option for reasons of 'Eh.'

I'm game to try anything DAI throws at me, and will be trying all of the romances. I have no trouble immersing myself in whatever gender I play as, and really enjoy the diverse experiences of different characters, genders and personalities.

It's one perk of [straight] female gamers' history of coming off second-best (not a complaint, just a fact) - you can become quite open-minded and creative with your imagination in order to fit the part and fully experience a game as a male (and actually, I quite often love playing as a [straight/gay] male, too).

Anyone that hasn't tried it, should, if only for replay sake. :)

NOTE: By this I am not speaking for anyone but myself and my own humble opinion as things have effected me, and I'm not in any way suggesting straight females have had it worse then gay or lesbian players in the past (as I know they haven't). I felt it worth mentioning so hopefully nobody will feel offended over my post, considering recent times.

I tried it, to romance Anders as a male Hawke in DA2. It didn't work at all for me.
