no difference for the gpu between playing on a FHD TV or a FHD monitor (i assume your TV has FHD?).

What is FHD?

marketing bullshit, you cant replace the hardware easier in a "made for gamer" system than in any normal sized case.

why do you even want to buy an Alienware PC? the few PC´s of them i saw yet were grossly overpriced crap.

My, you certainly have a way with words

Well if you can recommend another "console" like gaming computer than please do ^^ I saw there was something called a Lenovo, but it was not rated as highly.

I want to place this computer under my TV next to my xbox and DVR. So I need it to be tiny.

I do not know how to build a computer, so I am buying one already built. The alienware X51 has gotten good reviews and looks like it would be quite suitable for an inexperienced person like me. I am able to find a refurbished version, so I will be saving a few hundred dollars.

If you have other recommendations, by all means, say so ^^ I welcome your input.

What is FHD?

FullHD, or 1920x1080.

i cant recommend anything as long as i dont know in which resolution you´re going to play, which games you´re going to play (okay, you mentioned DA:I, but i assume you want to play other games too) and which settings you want to get in these games, how big the PC should be and, most important, how much money you want to spend for it.

what i can already recommend is going to a PC store and let them build a PC for you instead of buying an overpriced Alienware PC with dubious hardware (srsly, this GTX745 is absoluteley not a gaming card, and everyone who wants to tell you it is is either stupid or simply telling lies).

Thank you ^^

I don't have any such stores where I live; maybe you could recommend some online stores that could do this?

I do have an old case that my brother-in-law was going to give me, but when we got down to it, we both realized we knew nothing about building PCs, so we didn't even know which parts were better than other parts or which would or wouldn't be compatible. Plus when you consider the expense of all these individual parts... I can get the alienware X51 for 800 dollars. I was looking on amazon, and just a graphics card alone is 200-300 dollars!

What games I want to play: Well so far just DAI and probably the next ME ^^ Mostly RPGs. Also the new Sims. I am also excited about going back and purchasing older games like Skyrim so I can finally play modded versions, hehe!

Which resolution: I don't really know what that means, but I'm not picky about graphics. So long as it looks as good as my xbox, I'm fine lol

Which settings: I'm not sure what you mean here.

How big: Console size, because I want to put it under my TV next to my xbox so I can still play games in my living room. And I don't want to play with a keyboard... so I will get the little microsoft controller you can plug in with a usb.

Price: 800 is the top for me; I don't like spending so much, but it's all done for me, and it has good reviews... so that's why I'm considering it.

Thanks for your help :D

i´m sorry, i live in germany so i have no clue about onlinestores in the usa (i assume you live there because dollars).

building a PC isn´t as difficult as you might think, but i get your point.

you don´t need killer hardware to reach the XBOX quality, so a good mid-range gpu (GTX660ti/GTX670/GTX760 or AMD R9 270X/HD7870/R9 280/R9 285) should be (more than) sufficient.
resolution: for example 1920x1080, 1680x1050, etc.

graphic quality^^

PCs small like that usually get rather hot and loud, and it can happen that you cant easily replace the graphic card because some of this small cases are too small for "normal" sized graphic cards.

800... i know that for 800€ you can get a decent mid range PC, but i dont know the hardware prices in $. you mentioned graphic cards for 200-300$ on amazon, which graphic cards were that?
-
if you buy one of these X51, better buy the one with the better CPU and replace the graphic card later. i really dont know how "good" the GTX745 will be (the biggest limitation is the slow DDR3 VRAM/the very small bandwidth), but i guess its performance is between GTS450 and GTX460, which isnt really fast right now, but  should be enough to run DA:I on low settings.
really dont know what i should recommend :/

I am new to PC gaming, too!! Deathangel is really helping me out here. I have a basic idea of what things like RAM and graphics cards ARE but that's about it. I don't know which is better. I don't know how to "build" my own computer. I don't know any of that stuff.

But in my opinion it will be worth it, especially with DAI, which I realize I'm going to need to mod if I'm going to enjoy (recent news has left me so, so depressed, but thinking about buying a PC and learning how to apply mods is lifting my spirits.)

I have always kind of wanting a gaming PC, and I've been ambivalent about upgrading my current xbox 360, so this seems a perfect solution.

Deathangel, thank you for your breakdown of responses to my concerns! Regarding graphics card sizes: I watched a video where the guy replaced a graphics card in the PC I'm thinking about getting, and he said size would be a problem only if the card were really big. That's a mild concern I have at present since I do want to use this computer for the next 5+ years.

And which cards were 2-300 dollars on amazons? The ones that are said to come with the PC. I looked them up on amazon to see if I was actually getting a deal, lol!

Do please continue trying to persuade me not to do this because I agree 800 dollars is a lot of money xD and if I'm going to spend it, I want it to be the right decision. At present, I still do think it is the right thing "for me," simply because I am wanting a console-sized PC and because I am so ignorant when it comes to PCs.

Not sure if this helps, but here goes.

Jackfrag's "How to build a gaming PC 2014" video.  No too expensive, but able to run Battlefield 4 (i.e. Frostbite 3) well, and with good longevity.

While that's all well and good, some people just don't have the technical prowess or time to build a pc even with a guide. (Myself being one such person.)

Just gonna play it on my PS4 where it's guranteed to work rather then spending 800 bucks on parts and possibly screwing it up.

Oh, I agree. I didn't mean my post to say anything like "you don't have an excuse to not play on PC anymore". I have built PCs a few times and I still think it feels slightly daunting. :)

Hmm, we don't have any DA:I PC specs yet, so I looked at the Battlefield 4 specs, the closest thing we have at the moment (but the DA:I specs may well be different when revealed).  Based on that, each of these configurations can run DA:I, just (probably) not at "Ultra"-settings (which require a 3 GB video card, while all of these configs have a 2 GB one).

If you hit the "benchmarks" button, check out the green "Battlefield 4" bar. That is about the speed you can expect for DA:I too.  All these configs can still run Battlefield 4 (and therefore, probably DA:I too) at "High" settings, which look pretty darn good. Just the speed differs.

Battlefield 4 PC specs.

Spoiler

The most interesting difference between those four configurations is that the last two have a bigger power supply, which is something to consider if you want to upgrade the graphics card a few years later.

i really don´t know if you can get something significantly better for ~800$ (i already said that i don´t know about the hardware prices in the usa, and for some reasons i don´t understand the us-site of amazon always made my browser crash o.O)

yes, 800$ is a lot of money, but a gaming-PC is always more expensive than a console, it always was and will always be. i really don´t like consoles, but if you just want to play without having problems with hardware getting too slow resulting in the nessessity to upgrade your PC, buy a console.

if you still want a PC... you know that i have a rather low opinion on the 2 Alienware PC´s. problems: if you buy the one with the combination i5 4430/GTX670, you´ll definiteley have more fun now, but i really don´t know how important hyperthreading will become in gaming, maybe the i5 can become a problem, maybe not. with the combination i7 4770/GTX745 you will not have much fun "thanks" to the crappy gpu, so you would have to upgrade it, which will cost an additional ~200/300$, resulting in over 1000$.
don´t you know someone who could help you building a PC? i´m sure that if you take ~1000$ you can get something significantly better than both of the 2 Alienware-PC´s.

i´m sure you can get more for the money. but yes, you should be able to play DA:I at high settings with the 2 better configs.

GRAPHICS CARD
AMD RADEON HD 7870
NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 660
GRAPHICS MEMORY
3 GB

both GTX660 and HD7870 usually had 2GB VRAM, i really love it when publishers/developers seems to don´t know about the hardware they´re recommending. reminds me of Crysis2, Crytek said that a GTX560ti (1GB!) is fast enough for highest details, but the graphic card should have "1,8 GB VRAM or more" (actually i had over 2GB VRAM usage with my 3GB GTX660ti, which was the reason the game didn´t worked well with my GTX560ti)

As a proud owner of a gaming PC, I will tell you that if you are on the fence, just save your money and get a next-gen console for half the price. The build you posted first showed a fairly rookie mistake of having a processor far out of league from the chosen graphics card. An Intel i5-4670k (get the unlocked version, you'll be able to squeeze more performance from overclocking) would me more than enough for your purposes, and use the extra money for a better graphics card. The general rule of thumb is the NVIDIA x60 series of cards are the best in terms of price to performance, with decreasing returns going down or up (I don't know how AMD works). For the purposes of gaming solely, prioritize your graphics card over your CPU, once you hit 4gb memory you usually are okay, and ~400 watt power supply is more than enough.

This is a good website where the builds are generally well-balanced.

Take a look there, ape the designs, and you won't be disappointed.

Even their best $3500 design only runs BF4 on a performance rating of 4 out of 5 stars O_O how the heck do PC gamers afford to eat?

...I don't know how you're getting that rating. The design shown is at the absolute max barring heavy overclocking with custom liquid cooling systems and frankly ludicrous setups involving three and four way SLI. I'm pretty sure the game will run at 1440p+ at 60fps easily on the setup they posted. Enthusiasts will do their best to get the absolute best possible experience just because they can, and the difference between their monsters and my relatively modest $1500 machine will be hardly noticeable.

From hovering my mouse over the name of each build. It's their own rating O_o

Their highest star rating requires 60+ FPS at a 4k resolution. For comparison: if you use a "normal" full HD monitor (1080p) and want to play at 60 FPS or more, 3 stars for BF4 are perfectly fine. A performance matching or slightly exceeding current gen consoles would be 1.5 stars (1080p, 30-40 FPS).

If you need it to run well in resolutions greater than 1080p, you either have a monitor with a higher resolution than that, or you think anti-aliasing is for amateurs and downscaling is the way to go. :)
