Are we Vashoth or Tal-Vashoth? Devs said Vashoth a few months ago, website says Tal-Vashoth and that we rejected the Qun. Clarification would be appreciated.
Minor question about Qunari Inquisitors

Pretty sure we are Vashoth, having been born and raised outside of the Qun. Vashoth just means "grey ones", while "Tal-Vashoth" means 'true grey ones'. Obviously, it is a self-imposed title by the group that actively works against the Qun.
The character builder thing on the website seems to confirm that.

Previously the Devs said we were Vashoth, but you are right, the character backgrounds say we are Tal-Vashoth so until that is cleared up we don't really know.

David Gaider had blog answer for the question but I don't have link for it now. If I remember right Vashoth was more "true". I like to call mine Tal-Vashoths though, since they are anti-Qun.

That being typed, I thought we were Tal-Vashoth as well.

Gives me hope.
I mean beyond all them being encountered thus far just being common bandits or mercenaries.
Those people kill Qunari, therefore they are acceptable.

'...I’ll say that the Qunari PC is indeed Vashoth as previously clarified. We will use Tal-Vashoth, as the difference is meaningless to everyone but a follower of the Qun...'

Alright Gaider, that is just plain lazy. The lore explicitly seperates the two. Also, I would think it would matter to the Qunari in question if they were vashoth or Tal Vashoth. I would also think it would matter a great deal to Iron Bull. It isn't like it would be that hard to explain the difference anyway.....
IB: "As a member of Ben hassath(or however it is spelled) I am obligated to hunt down and kill you as a Tal Vashoth.
QI: "Don't sweat it IB, we don't get hung up on names around here, I just say I am Tal-Vashoth cause the Humans don't know any better, promise! Here I have this note from David Gaider saying so."
IB: "Ok"

We are Vashoth. Born outside of the Qun and never having been to the homeland or experienced it.

Agree that it's sloppy. 95% of Thedas may not make a distinction, but I as a player need to be able to because I'd play the characters very differently.

Well if when he told us that he's Ben-Hassrath and we didn't immediately attack him or something, I think he might have worked out for himself that we're not Tal-Vashoth. Assuming he didn't already know this.

That isn't the point, the point is why even bother having two terms in the lore if you are just going to use one term because not everyone would know the difference. Build your lore, flesh it out, use the proper terms.

Tal-Vashoth actually left the Qunari, which would make some assumptions about your character. We might actually be able to sympathize with the Qun.

Would it, though? EIther way, the qunari in question would be outside the Qun and would need to be forced to submit or killed by those who follow the Qun. I don't really see why most people would care at all about potentially subtle differences between Vashoth and Tal-Vashoth. Qunari might be slightly more tolerant of Vashoth born outside the Qun who simply do not "know any better," but no one else in Thedas would be concerned about the terminology.

They probably just say tal-voshoth for people who aren't that big of DA fans, probably the same reason we are "Qunari/Voshoth Inquisitors" instead of Kossith Inquisitors. most wouldn't know who the Kossith is, so they have to do it.

We're Vashoth, as we never followed the Qun.
However at first glance most of Thedas would assume we're Qunari, but if we were to explain we don't follow the Qun, they'd assume we were Tal-Vashoth instead. We're not strictly either of those two things, but since we've never accepted the Qun then we are technically rejecting it, so I suppose we could be considered to be Tal-Vashoth, although it's a lose distinction at best?
