(I'm wordy...Forgive me, I'll try to be brief)
Head to Orz...after the fight with the "kings personal messenger" I accidently selected a party member.
This is where it got odd.
Game crashed. Had to restart the PS3
Reload, resume.
Everything is huge. The resolution is fubar'd. Screen cut off on both edges.
So, I reset video settings. Nothing. Remove the DA:O Options save. Nothing. Go in and manually uncheck 720p from my options. (Knowing full well that the game plays at 720p) And poof! I think I fixed it.
But I did't. It made the screen fit again, but everything looks really odd. Seeing as how I CAN'T uncheck 480p...I'm at a loss.
What I think is happening is its running it at 480, and I can't seem to force it back to the way it was.
Any help would be much appreciated. What should I try next? Reinstall the game? delete all saves?
(Oh, I use a Samsung 32in HDTV connected to my PS3 with HDMI...in case that helps.)
Game resolution changed, I've tried everything...please help!

does your HDTV supports 1080p? if yes try to uncheck everything in resolution option of the console but let 1080p checked. This game supports 1080p.

yay! A reply!
Yes, my TV supports 1080p. Perhaps I should try it with 1080i unchecked as well. Thank you for the idea xlsound...I'll go give it a shot.

You can try to put your video options into default to see if it will unselect 480p for you. If not, I don't know what to tell you.

this may fix it, turn off the ps3, then turn it on holding the power button until you hear a series of beeps.

Thanks everyone...I've tried almost everything and no luck. Looks like I'm stuck with it. I suppose I could try doing the reset PS3 settings and uninstall DA:O completely. (By the way...this little problem occurred the same day my computer crashed from a nasty virus... I had some bad electronic toy ju-ju that day it seems.)

I believe you should find something dragon age related if you go to games -> game data or somesuch. Try deleting that. Also there might be a settings file in the games -> save files section, but I haven't checked for it myself (don't have my ps3 right now).

Five days of messing with settings, reinstalling, etc... and nothing will fix it. So, not only does it seem that I'm just going to have to get used to the messed up display, but I had to delete all of my saved games. So, that means I have to start over. Again.
Thanks to everyone who posted...the help was much appreciated. Sorta bummed that no one from Bioware bothered. I thought that's what this forum was for. /shoulders slump

NO don't delete saved games, only the saved data.
Never set the PS3 to 1080p unless for BRD movies, 99% of PS3 games are Native 720p or less.
1080p mode is half upscaled and will reduce image quality (refer to Naughty Dog PSblog post for confirmation and details why 720p >>> 1080p)

The exact same thing happened to me! It's horrible... I will try out some things as well and post if anything fixes it.

Yay! I had my BF look at it (I'm helpless...lol) and here's what happened to me: My ps3 was hooked up by a component/ D terminal and for some unknown reason the PS3 thought it was using composite/S- video. By going into display settings on the PS3 dashboard he switched it back to component and everything was fine and dandy. I don't know if this will help, but I thought I should share it anyway. I have no idea why this happened because I sure as Hell didn't change the settings. Anyway, I hope everything goes back to normal for you.

Are you EU PS3 owners?

Hmmm, interesting. My PS3 isn't hooked up via component but HDMI. I'm going to check regardless. And nope, I'm a US chick and using a brand new ps3 120 gig slim. Still haven't fixed it, but then again...I shelved the game for a while...glad stopped back by the board to see if anyone mentioned something new.

No problem with any other game? Check 720p only not 1080i/p
