I'm enjoying Destiny, but I'm just not sure it has the staying power of mass effect. I think Mass Effect's biggest strength is the great sp foundation and underlying story. I really hope they realize that with the next mass effect and don't go the route everyone seems to be trying to go: have every possible mode of gameplay available, and a story that is somewhat weak and not developed well. Maybe they'll release more information about the story as we go, but so far it seems like grinding without any clear reason as to why...

I must admit I'm more excited about DAI even though I've never played DA before.

So much this. Although the leveling system seems to be worse than Borderlands and much worse than ME3. I'm only at level 9 but so far I've had essentially no input into how my character has developed.

Yes! I didn't select skills for a few levels waiting for the skill tree to branch. It doesn't. It is a skill stick. Sure, I can swap out a different grenade, but it is still very linear. Every hunter, titan or warlock will essentially be the same.

The only reason people are disappointed is because it was somehow hyped up to be the end of all games. No game can live up to that hype.

I'm currently enjoying Destiny for what it is, and it's pretty good. I'll be back to ME3 at some point but I have no idea how long that will be.

Agreed - a solid foundation built by the story gives this kind of game its staying power.
ME3MP has that solid foundation built over the series, with species and characters we are all fond of, even if it went in a direction that I personally don't like (personally the story went downhill since the start of ME2).

If Destiny is so shallow in terms of story then it will only be a passing phase and not a game with any longevity - just like borderlands 1 with its pathetic excuse for a story (though they kind of remedied that in BL2).

I've never played DA either but if the MP is good then I might be interested.

So it's not worth getting an Xbone just for it?

I didn't, although I believe if you buy the 360 digital version it includes the Xbone version free (pretty sure I saw an ad for that on the 360 home screen). If you like it and think it needs to run on Xbone then you can upgrade it.

It's fun. I just don't see it having staying power. I'll play through and help friends play through then shelve it until the expansions come out.

The thing with me is I don't see anything at the moment I'd play enough to justify buying one. I've been waiting for quite a while too. Maybe ME3 has spoiled me.

I would say no. Most of my friends list is on next gen now and that would probably make Destiny more enjoyable, but I am not rushing out to buy a new system yet.

Couldn't agree more. Even when I play something different it doesn't quite engage me like this game/series has.

It has been mentioned above, but I think a lot of the draw for the multiplayer was due to the world that the single player games created. Here was our opportunity to play those different characters/races/classes (beyond just issuing commands to squadmates). There's something more as well though. There have been those posters who said they never touched single player. So whatever they did; the team at Bioware managed to make what should have been a simple horde mode last. The fact that I can still easily find a PUG without bumping into a regular poster on here attests to that.

I'm in the third* area and I actually appreciate the minimalist approach to Destiny's story. It works well in this setting. The only objection I have so far is that the queen stuff felt totally out of place and over the top corny.

It's just that the game isn't very engaging. It takes the worst part of Assassin's Creed 1 and the worst part of MMORPGs. The game is very repetitive and the way itemization works is garbage. Almost every mission is basically an ME3 MP hack circle with a few assassinations thrown in. Weapons and enemies are subject to MMO DUMBFUCKERY where for some reason levels are really important. I hated this in ME3 as well, but Destiny pushes damage reduction for level penalties even further. A level 1 Harrier is going to do 160.2 damage per round. Enemies will always have a given health with a modifier for difficulty. No need to throw in more MMO bullshit beyond that.

I still like the game.

Defiance was better.

Sounds annoying to play tbh, I'm glad it's not on PC now.

One day mmo devs might do away with that kind of level restriction/grind BS and make the game engaging in other ways.

these quotes are interesting considering the devs want this game to go on for 10(!!) years. from what i gather, they're talking about this one game, and not just the game as a franchise.

10 years is pretty ******* optimistic for any game.

I know it's Bungie and I know consoles have a long lifespan, but still that is stretching the limit there.

It's just for PvE. PvP has level advantages disabled, you can dominate online as a low level if you're good.

It's pretty fun, and the graphics are quite nice (on PS4), plus there was no lag .. big bonus

Don't know if it will have the re-playability of ME3MP though.

Didn't have a chance to do PvP yesterday (although my brother did and he said it's quite fun), but the 3 player PvE was fun .. although at low level I don't really notice any play style difference between the 3 classes (each member of my crew took a different class)

I did take the closest comparison to a GI though, the robot Warlock .. so there's that

Since I saw the gameplay videos, and heard some explanations of the mechanics, I instantly thought it was a shinier version of Borderlands.

Not buying, as I couldn't bring myself to finish both Borderlands and Borderlands 2 from the bordeom. Still don't understand the hype.

Honestly, if you haven't played either the Mr Torgue or Tiny Tina expansions, you are missing out on the best parts of the BL series. Both are excellent

Edit: Oh yeah, the zombie expansion in BL1 is also pretty fun

A friend talked me into getting Borderlands 2 when it was the XBox Live Gold discount a few months back.  I was so bored after only a few days playing it.  I felt the same after Destiny Beta.  I have no interest in these types of games, which is weird because they combine two of my favorite types of games.
