Sounds like Destiny isn't the ME3MP addiction cure that some were desperately hoping for and they'll be returning to this game in 5...4...3...2...1...

Mass Effect 4 is going to absolutely murder Destiny, hell ME3 MP already destroys the overhyped $500 million borefest that Destiny is.

Since I saw the gameplay videos, and heard some explanations of the mechanics, I instantly thought it was a shinier version of Borderlands.

Not buying, as I couldn't bring myself to finish both Borderlands and Borderlands 2 from the bordeom. Still don't understand the hype.

I couldn't get enough of Borderlands 1 - played it to death.

Strangely I struggle to play BL2 - I still haven't finished it once, but I try to do 10 mins or so here and there to get my money's worth.

I have no intention of buying the Presequel. The only thing that interests me in the Presequel is the cryo/ice mechanic - apart from mass effect 3, very few games have got cryo/ice freezing and shattering enemies in a good way - in fact I can't think of a single game that has a freeze/shatter mechanic as good as mass effect 3.

I guess the formula is wearing a little thin - in the first game despite the pathetic story it had great atmosphere, a good concept and humour and fun mechanics. But they have barely changed anything over soon 2 and a half games - no expansion of action skills, limited character selection.

I'm glad they're working on fleshing out the story with more detail, but two things must be changed in a future Borderlands 3 or another spin off:

- more unique character choice

- more action skills

Especially the second part - the action skills in BL make characters like the GI, Demolisher, Destroyer and Krolord look like caster classes. I mean one of the action skills in TPS is basically an aimbot - I'd love to know which pyjak thought that was a good or interesting idea...

I love the open world PvE concept of Borderlands, but it is far to strongly weighted towards pure shooting. If we had a blend of borderlands open world pve with better stories/quests and mass effect style classes/powers I would play that game non stop.

Or for a fantasy setting - if we had skyrim with dishonoured combat... *drool* :)

Honestly, if you haven't played either the Mr Torgue or Tiny Tina expansions, you are missing out on the best parts of the BL series. Both are excellent

Edit: Oh yeah, the zombie expansion in BL1 is also pretty fun

Tiny Tina's expansion sounds like comedy. Which is okay, because it's the only thing I liked about the games, but even that didn't keep me going.

They are written marvelously.

I enjoyed Borderlands as well, but I played through once and that was enough. For whatever reason it didn't engage me like this game has.

Please be specific... BL1 or BL2(or both)? Because BL1>>>>BL2 imo. The only reason I ever played BL2 for as long as I did was because of BL1. ME3 saved me from the torture of BL2.

I couldn't get enough of Borderlands 1 - played it to death.

Thank you very much! *applauding* I expressed this 'sentiment' for BL1 so many times on Gearbox BL2 forums and made many enemies(and some friends too). BL1 was epic, I only stopped playing when all the hackers and modders made it virtually unplayable with bugs.

God damn, I don't think I'd play anything else.  Like, ever.

Three hours into Destiny and I'm pretty much done already. What's this game about again??

I'd say there's one redeeming quality of it though: could've sworn I heard the voice of one of the quarian admirals last night. B)

So, Destiny IS just that?! I wouldn't expect people calling it boring. I mean, like I said, from the start it was JUST that. Go there, kill evil things, kill boss evil thing, get loot.

Really? All the hype for that?

I swear I don't understand this industry sometimes.

I recall being crucified a few weeks ago for suggesting that we wait for Destiny's to be released before we start talking about how "awesome" it is (someone even referred to me as a "moron" blinded.....). I'd expect anyone who is really into gaming to know that playing a trial version of a game doesn't necessarily mean the real game would play out the same. This has been my experience many times with the FIFA games in the last few years. I play the trial version, it's awesome then the real game is released and am thinking "what the **** is going on?"

Or unpaid and otherwise compensated hype, as recent events have revealed.

But yeah.  Video game journalism is to factual reporting as "some guy with a blog" is to undercover, investigative journalism.

So far I'm about 10 hours into Destiny and I like it a lot. Great music, environment and atmosphere, and the gameplay is smooth.

I'm not sure if I'll be playing it for 1000 hours+, but I am looking forward to being a lvl 30 with legendary gear going on top level raids!

Destiny doesn't really scratch my me3 itch, so I'll definitely still be playing it, but Destiny is the "Borderlands" that I wanted.

How the story mode works in terms of playing with other people? For example:  if you do a mission in someone's game , can you reapeat it when you're playing alone?

I hope this is not one of those "professional review" type of thing that was mentioned earlier because you are kind of making me curious about the game Destiny now. Especially with that part about it being the Borderlands you wanted.  :)

It does sound professional and catching, and it got me  :(

Hmm to be honest, I'm not sure.. I've been playing with darkmoon and he joined my fireteam, but as far I know, you can repeat all missions how many times you want!

Borderlands 1 and 2 was great games for sure, just not really my cup of tea..

Destiny feels "epic", with a grand story set in a cool scifi world (I'm a sucker for scifi :) ) and at certain points it had a mass effecty feel. But I do miss the 3rd person view from mass effect though.. Also, you can dance!

BL2 had a fun story and was very comical but I do admit the gameplay itself is nothing TOO special. I mean, the areas are open enough that you can try multiple approaches to a problem, which is WONDERFUL and something you rarely see anymore (As much as I love Mass Effect, it really IS too linear like that) but the gameplay got a bit too repetitive (Want a better gun? Farm this boss until it drops! Want to have a different set of skills? Gotta grind a whole new character up, which takes considerably longer than in ME3!)

Example: One area has an electric barrier keeping you out of a small watchtower of sorts. You need to climb up the exterior, find the fuse box through a window, and shoot it before you can enter. While you're there, you can throw grenades inside to cause some damage to enemies you can't see yet, rather than need to fight them all in close quarters on the way up the inside. Most games would just have you go straight inside and fight your way up, or not go there at all since it's non mandatory and just for a chest of loot.

Still, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep is still tied with Citadel as "best DLC ever."

Yes, I do agree. I had the mixed feeling of Mass Effect and Borderlands from watching Destiny's gameplay video. I think one of the things that made BL1 and ME3MP unique for me was that they were unique. Unless most other games, they didn't feel like am playing an improved version of another game.

One of the impressions I have of Destiny is that the devs took bits and pieces of other previous games and they made it look really good.

I think you're absolutely right! It feels like a mix of mass effect, halo and borderlands with mmo elements, especially with the central hub where you can meet other players (to dance and wave)

In related Destiny news, Phogoth the Untamed is a pain in the ballsack.

He really doesn't like the dance battle tactics I threw at him.
