Personal race/class pairings?

For each the DAI races, do you have a personal class pairing/classes you will not use with certain races?

For example:

Humans- Of course humans fit any class, but given the Inquisitor's nobility background, I'm more inclined to a Warrior or Mage. Someone from a noble family will likely be trained in the finest arms and armor. An exception could possibly be a Rogue Archer (many soldiers and nobility are trained in archery I can imagine).

Personal Race/Class Pairings- Any. Warrior, Mage, (Archer) Rogue, (Dual Dagger Rogue) (in that order)

Elves- I've always considered Rogues and Mages to be ideal Elven classes. Mages and Elves go together given Elves stereotypically use magic and in Thedas, have a natural inclination towards magic. For combat Elves given their slighter build I always see them as Archers (and to lesser degrees, Dual Dagger types). I also feel the whole Archer Rogue fits a Dalish hunter more than a Weapon and Shield or Two Hand combat type does.

Personal Race/Class Pairings- Archer Rogue or Mage

Dwarves- Dwarves have always been Warriors to me, but I'm warming up to the idea of a Dwarven Rogue given the Cadash crime family background. In fact I think a Rogue might fit a Cadash Inquisitor better.

Personal Race/Class Pairings- Dual Dagger Rogue (given the background), Warrior (generally speaking)

Qunari- Being natural giants definitely a Warrior or Mage. For Warriors a Two Hander seems more natural given their strength while a Qunari Mage is the obvious pairing many people are going to want to see given the lore and implications in the game. I really can't see a giant hulk being a stealthy, acrobatic rogue however. Not saying its not possible but probably won't be my pairing at least.

Personal Race/Class Pairings- Warrior (Two Hand preferably but either) or Mage

How about you guys? Are there class pairings you ascribe to each race or are you generally more flexible/go against the stereotype kind?

No Qunari ?

I will get around to it eventually but no.  I don't care about playing a Qunari at all.  I am glad the option is there but I have no real interest.

I don't have specific preferences, but for my DAI run I will have my Human and Qunari as mages and Elf and Dwarf as rogues.

I don't have a preference, except I usually like the rogues the best. But, for my four characters I have for DAI:

Human- Mage

Elf- Mage or Warrior

Qunari- Warrior (Two Hand)

Dwarf- Rogue

Human- Mage/Warrior/Rogue

Elf- Mage(probably if I play one)

Dwarf- Warrior/Rogue depending on attack styles

Qunari- I probably will not touch Qunari. I personally have no interest in them or their story. Sten and DA2 soured my view on them and their Tal counterparts.

Elf:  mage -- probably Rift Mage

Human:  warrior (SnS) -- would fit best as Champion spec

Qunari:  warrior (2H) -- Reaver

Dwarf:  rogue (DW) -- Artificer works nicely with a dwarf.  Assassin would work too.

This seems to fit best based on lore.  I'll likely go elf mage first but probably won't stick to this 'lore based' list for the others.  The human I'll make will probably be a DW rogue.

Elves are usually rogues to me in...pretty much everything, but I think elven mage sounds the best for Inquisition.

I mostly agree with your race/class combos OP and tend to default to those combinations myself when thinking about a new character. That said, I also like to move beyond these 'stereotypes' so I do have a couple of characters in origins that don't fit into this mould and will probably have a few in DA:I as well. For example, I've a Qunari rogue so far among my planned inquisitors and might think of a couple others as I go along.

So far I've only got a human two handed warrior and an elven character planned (I'll choose the class based off my experience on my first play through)

but I think playing as a qunari or dwarven archer would be pretty cool as well so that's a possibility down the line

Looking at backstories: mercenary as warrior, dalish as archer or mage, human as warrior or mage and carta member as rogue make most sense to me. Im not going to follow that though with my playthroughs.

Race / Class pairings ? None.

However, it would have been nice to have a Intellectual Romantic Couple pairing. A pairing between 2 mages, bound in attraction because of their intellectual pursuits.

Obviously you can do this with a female mage Dalish elf / Solas or male mage / Dorian. However, I play as a straight male character and there is no option.  :crying:

Humans - warrior or rogue, cause I don't like the mage background that much

Elves - I could imagine playing any class as elf

Dwarf - warrior or rogue both fit

Qunari - Warrior or rogue, I don't really like the idea of being a rare race, the supposed herald of Andraste and a mage

Though that's just what I think right now, it could all change over time or as soon as I want to play a mage who's not an elf.

Only race/class combination that does not work for me is qunari/rogue, since they are just so bloody huge.  Mage yes, since with magic size does not matter, warrior yes since all those muscles just make him/her just badass.

Human- mage

Elf- mage

Qunari- mage

Yes there is a pattern, shh don't tell anyone!

No dwarves and that's on you Bioware! If only you had added Varric as a romance option :crying: .

As for parings, Well a Human male run with Cass and then Jose, then a female elf run with Solas Then Female Qunari with Bull, after that ill start rolling the dice.

I have a couple of set ideas in my mind. Things like Elven 2H warriors or longbow-Dwarves don't seem quite right to me. Whereas Human S+S warriors and Elven archers are always right lol

Based on the Inq. backstorys, however, I'm having a few more restrictions. I'm only seeing Templar as a human. Dwarves are more roguey than warriors. Elven mages seem silly now seeing as they're "spies"...

But ignoring the backstories, I have almost all 9 of my characters planned! (one for each spec.) :D

Elven (m) Mage (Necro)
Dwarf (f) Rogue (Arti)
Dwarf (m) Warrior (Champ)
Qunari (f) Mage (K.E)
Qunari (m) Rogue (Temp)
Human (m) Rogue (Ass)

Templar, Reaver and Rift Mage I have planned, but am unhappy with, either due to the gender they need to be for romances, or their general idea not fitting/being used by me before (namely Elven (f) Reaver).

It really depends on the character I decide to play and how I want their class to affect who they are, their decision making, and possibly their love interests.

I find that humans really call to be warriors in my mind. Elves are more rogues.

The only combination I could never bring myself to try out was a dwarven Mage. Something about it really didn't feel right.

i actually loved in DA:O that Elves were the worst rogues natural stat wise. I usually base it off what I want to play and I like playing against stereotypes and coming up with semiplausible reasons.

Qunari: Mages due to lore, and also Archers, because in ancient history there are so many myths of bows that only the strongest could pull and only the hero can ever manage it. It seems like if there was a true archer hero of legend, it would be a Qunari.

Dwarves: Rogues because out of all the races, dusters seem the most Rogueish, and even the nobles like to stab each other covertly. I can almost imagine that Noble Dwarves and Duster Dwarves have unique different styles of Knife combat.

Elves: Warriors, or Arcane Warriors because it just seems right that the Elves continue their heritage of the past.

Humans- Usually my evil playthrough with whatever specialization most strikes me as Evil (probably the necromancer this time) If I am playing a Human as good first? Sword and Boards because they suit my playstyle best.
