But Anders-hate aside, I would've preferred for bot Carver and Bethany to live. Honestly, I think it would've been better for the story if it were Leandra who got killed by the ogre. That way, when the Hawke siblings arrives to Kirkwall, Gamlen's bitterness towards them would have had more actual justifiable reasoning.
Actually, it would have been much better for the story had Bioware bothered to establish a better connection between the family members first - give a reason to actually care when the first one kicks the bucket. My reaction when Carver bit it was literally, "Well, that's one down. Two to go." After that, they need to knock out the cutscene incompetence, which imo is the real offender here and which was over-used in DA2.
