...but I wanted to get this to someone working at BioWare so I didn't know where else to post. I wanted to let you know that Dr. Oz (the tv show used Mass Effect music in their episode on mental health from today September 9th, 2014. I heard it playing in the other room and recognized it immediately, it's the theme from the star chart from the first game. I figured that BioWare probably has a copyright on Mass Effect's music and I'm not sure if Dr. Oz is using the track legally but I wanted to make sure that someone knew about it just in case they were using it illegally. Hope this gets to you, thanks.
I don't know if this is the right place to put this...

I think once it's released on YouTube, other people are allowed to use it on the assumption they don't sell it to others.

I heard it too. Just happen to walk in the room when my mom had it on the tv. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It was about some woman's addiction to artificial sweeteners and during her montage I heard the character creation music from Mass Effect 2!!!!

The magic word is (if my english-german dictionary works correctly): copyright collecting societies
In germany we have the so called "GEMA" - a society that manages the copyright for music products. LOT of film/game music is registered there and there are similar societys in most countries. Every public use of such a music part has to be payed - but of course big TV stations have some kind of flats or so. A few years ago I helped a friend who made a documentary he offered to german television. One of the demands was a list of all protected songs/sounds and other stuff (like film snippets from protected movies or other documentaries) that was in his documentary. Reason was of course they could check about the copyright and if it is covered by their deal with that societies.

Honestly I don't think they care. They have bigger things to think about rather than worrying about local television stations using little clips of music, legally or not.

I already lost count of times where and when i heard any of the themes obviously used without permission. Our local TV-companies doing this like something usual.
Trust me, no commercial company is using the themes illegally. They all pay fees.
