Of course if a phantom gets you with their sword in multiplayer you're dead. Omni-blades didn't exist until ME3 because ME3 was the best and only place to start, so let's not go there. They weren't in the lore until then because of the rule of cool. Omni-shields began in Lair of the Shadow Broker and we know who wrote that. Rool of Cool.

The Mass Effect Universe is built on the Rool of Cool and Space Magic. Let's stop bickering about this crap lest I start throwing in that a slug from today's shotgun would still be every bit as effective in the Mass Effect Universe simply based upon p=mv. If they want to fling metal shavings at mach X velocities out a pistol, how loud is the report from that pistol? What is the kick? How heavy is the pistol? And don't get me going on different ammo types.

Something like this for Kai Leng would have worked:

VMKyH5i.jpg

Not too much of a stretch, given they stole the space marine design as it is.

It's not even much more ridiculous looking than his current appearance!

FIts right in with the general Cerberus design:

I imagine Games Workshop's lawyers had a few long nights in the office.

You expected him to kill Shepard? Shepard's plot armor is thicker.

I expected him to do better. Instead he's just a little punk with a butter knife pretending to be something he's not

He lasts longer than any other enemy in the game

You mean on the citadel, Thessia and Chronos? Did he out last TIM? How about the reapers? The reapers were at the start and the end. Kai Leng can't say that. Tela Visor put up a better fight in the broker dlc then Kai Leng did in ME3.

I'm not a fan of ME3's Cerberus armor either. It's too bulky and it constantly reminds me of the louder, dumber shooters the series aspires to become.

I mean in combat. You spend more time killing him than you do with any enemy (haven't fought the clone, but he/she is Shepard's clone so they are bound to be tougher)

Disagree, a Geth Prime or a Banshee can put up a tougher fight.

I don't think that's a point in his favor. Most of that time is spent shooting at him while he's crouched recharging his plot shields and posing no threat to the player. The rest of the time is spent doing cartwheels, running in place, and getting stuck in walls.

This I agree with.

How do you spend more time killing someone when they die once? Except for Shepard of course. I guess you mean fighting him in combat.

I don't know if you used the bonus power lash at all or have it, but using lash on Kai Leng turns him into a ragdoll. He's a punk. He's nothing.

The fight with the clone is tough.

Or benches. I was enjoying the fact that I could "toss [him] around like a rag doll!" on Thessia with lash, and he kept getting stuck on those damn benches. After 4 tries, I just said screw it and used charge/nova until his air support came.

His plot armor is so strong, the game glitches when it detects the PC is actually winning. Bollocks.

Because defeat via cutscene is so much fun! It would be nice if writers would quit doing this and instead make the fight be extremely difficult so that the player is defeated on their terms, and have backup plot devices to allow the plot to move forward without shortening the story if the player actually manages to actually kill the character or whatever the event is.

Even if Thane was too sick/stupid to pull an Indiana Jones and just shoot Kai Leng then why couldn't Shepard or one of the 2 squadmates? Shepard and company could've been sitting down with popcorn for all the help they offered.

The funny thing about the Indiana Jones scene is that originally Jones was supposed to fight the swordsman with his whip but Ford had dysentery and suggested that they change it to him just shooting the guy.

I think it all went downhill after it was decided to give a character who lives in the 22nd Century a 16th Century weapon. This is what should  have happened to Kai Leng:

Don't bring swords to gunfights

The only scifi universe I have ever come across where bladed weapons really make sense is Dune.

If a tougher fight in terms of a threat to the player, I agree. If a tougher fight as in longer, I disagree. I deal with them much faster than with KL

Nope, haven't used it. Seen on YouTube though, it still it takes time to kill him, even when you toss him around the room

It's a fight and you spend quite some time killing him, even if all you do is trying to bring down his shields (which is pretty much what themikefest suggested to do with a machine gun). That means he is tougher than any enemy you face in the game.

Killing Banshee can take 49 seconds: Link

Killing Kai Leng with Lash: 2m 38 seconds: Link

You also have to allow Kai Leng to do his charging thing 3 times on Chronos before he can be killed. All other enemies don't have that luxury of recharging their shields. That's why they are killed quicker otherwise Kai Leng would be dead in less time then a banshee or even a Geth Prime.

Banshees are the best enemy in my opinion; just hearing that scream makes you go "ah hell, not one of those".

What's your point? He does have that luxury because his augmentations allow him to. That means he is stronger than a Banshee.

I guess it depends on the meaning of tough or strongest. In gameplay Kai Leng poses less threat than the mookiest Cerberus mook, so I consider him weak. He's basically a moving shield generator; a sponge that Shepard has to reduce to zero health for the battle to end.

My point is if he didn't have that, he would be dead just as quick as the others.

I wouldn't be surprised if a banshee would kick his a**

Eh, I would have paid to see Aria take her revenge on his sorry a** for killing her daughter myself.

Kai Lame was a punk. Vasir should have stuck to dancing. Liara kicked her ass. I just had Liara keep Vasir in Stasis the entire time, and when Vasir dropped out of Stasis, I blasted her. Then before she could jet anywhere I had Liara put her in Stasis again. I just kept a dark channel on Lame, and charged his punk ass.

As are all the bosses in the series. Saren is weaker than Kai Leng if you play an Adept or an Engineer. You can toss him around or make him stop attacking you conpletely. Kai Leng at least has minions.
That he poses almost no threat to you is a testament to your skill as a player, not his weakness. I died three times when fighting him on my first run so don't tell me he's harmless. The only section I have died more was the final stand during Priority:Earth.

My point is if he didn't have that, he would be dead just as quick as the others.

That's a moot point. He has that, so deal with it. They could've given him huge shield like Saren instead and you'd spend the same amount of time trying to bring it down. It's the same plot shield.

It seems you have a problem accepting that he's a crappy enemy. So deal with it.

Crappy, yes. Weak, no. He is tough but no match for my character. As are Saren and Hurrdurr Reaper
