Mana Clash broke Origins. If this ever comes back it needs be severely tweaked.
Same with Arcane Warrior via Knight Enchanter. I felt I literally couldn't die when I had all my sustains up, regardless of difficulty.

Problem with Arcane Warrior is that other than an insanely high fatigue rating there weren't any penalties. High fatigue in itself isn't that bad if you aren't nuking which you shouldn't be doing as an AW anyway. Add in the fact that there are several armors that decrease fatigue and you have a magical walking tank with no weaknesses.
Each Shape Shifter form had it's own set of penalties and weaknesses.
Blood Magic was insanely powerful, but you had to micromanage because you can't heal and your using HP for nuking.
Spirit Healer had a high fatigue and would decrease mana at an alarming rate. On top of that it pulled in a lot of unwanted aggro.
AW's weaknesses could be mitigated to the point where it became irrelevant so it basically became god mode.
These spells are going to be a hell of a lot of fun to unleash.
That said, the spells I'm looking forward to the most are the "Outside the Box" Kind. Creative, different types of abilities and affects. Spells that can be used in unusual ways and combinations.. So spirit is likely the tree I have the most interest it given the schools listed here.
All the specializations look intriguing.. Especially if Solas showing off is Rift Mage.
I hope to see crushing prison return. I would also like air spells to be added to the elemental magic attacks. They have fire, ice, lighting, and earth based spells, so why not air.
Yawn. Necro, please.

I purposefully nerfed myself by not wearing armor - only robes. Still had more armor and defence than fully armored Alistair. Apart from sustains i used only 2 spells - Blood Wound and Mana Clash + sometimes I buffed myself with Regenerate. Such a character was pretty much immortal. I guess that with Massive Armor nothing could even damage it.
Why I didn't use any other spells? Blood Wound was absurdly broken - It dealt more damage than Fireball, didn't cause friendly fire and paralyzed for duration.
Mana Clash one-shots any mage in the game, apart from Gaxkang and Pride Demons. Why would I need anything else?
.
Oh, I sometimes used Glyph of Paralysis + Glyph of Repulsion combo. Had a longer duration than Blood Wound, so it was sometimes useful.
DA2 did a better job at balancing spells.
As to previewed spells... Meh. Weak Mind Blast, and 3 elemental spells. We'll see how this works in practice, but I'm a bit worried about every mage being an elementalist.
So will all mages be elementalists now ? That seems like a very odd thing to do, it severely restricts the ability of someone to roleplay as a mage.
I thought this game was about choices lol....The abilities we have seem to be railroading us into being elementalists...
Cool to see some old favorites return. Still hopefully the finalised trees get shown so we can start planning builds.
I just hope they remember mages are supposed to be powerfull. If they weren't there'd be no need to imprison them in towers before being guilty of anything.
Well, I guess people can fear mages for being able to light fires without matches and create ice cubes out of thin air. ![]()

how are you being forced into being a elementalist? because of the three of four spells in this little minor thing are elemental? do you happen to know every single attack spell in the game? if so please do share.

Doubtful. Earlier this week they released the same thing for Two-Handed Warrior abilities. That doesn't mean there aren't sword-and-shield warriors as well.
This is just showing us part of a single school of spellcraft.

I hope there is a good option to have two specializations to go with that Mind blast tree. What's that called anyways?

The Tree? That's the Spirit Tree.
Also note, the ones we see there are the Winter, Discord/Inferno (not sure, they seem to have the same icon), Spirit & ??? We know there is also the Entropy Tree, Discipline...

Not exactly. Inferno and Winter for example are known to be specific spell trees, so unless mages have 6-7 trees instead of 4, we're looking at one spell from each tree... it's pretty much all Primal magic with side effects that used to be full spells. Plus the specializations, of course...

Aren't those just old, alpha-build names for the current spell trees? The old "Disciple" tree, for example had the "Winter" icon and had some ice spells among other things... the same goes for "Discord" and "Inferno." If you look a a screenshot of the old Discord tree, it was just a bunch of fire spells... all of which are now under the title of "Inferno."
Oh, and the screenshots can be viewed in the OP of this thread: http://forum.bioware...ill-tress-here/
The ones I'm referring to are in the spoiler tag of the Comic Con Demo screenshots.
Oh thanks. I asked before but no one mentioned any of those. Also note, the ones we see there are the Winter, Discord/Inferno (not sure, they seem to have the same icon), Spirit & ??? We know there is also the Entropy Tree, Discipline...

Really? I didn't know that. Thanks for teaching me something new!
EDIT: Actually, after reading EnduinRaylene's last post, I guess I did know it, once. But I'd certainly forgotten about it.

No problem. If you want more info on what we know about the DA:I skill trees, be sure to check out that link in the second post I made... well, the thread is always on the first page anyway, but still. It's got a ton of good information and many screenshots from the oldest demos to the most recent.

There's only the 4 trees: Winter, Inferno, Spirit and Primal. Winter and Inferno was previously called Discipline and Discord and Primal(we don't know the final name yet) was shown as Entropy before as well, but since it doesn't appear to have any Entropic spells and only Primal ones that's what I'm calling it. Spirit tree is a mix of Spirit and Arcane abilities and we've only seen it called Spirit so I'm guessing that's what it will stay as. It would be highly surprising if there was a 5th base tree as it would totally go against everything we've seen. I wouldn't mind it, especially if it was Entropy, but it seems to be very unlikely.

Yeah, it looks like they've done some name switching along the way.
So at the very least we have Inferno, Winter, Spirit, Entropy (unless it got renamed) & "Some Kind of Weather"

Well... I'm not even sure about Entropy tbh. I mean, the old Entropy tree has a Chain Lightning icon in the first tier, so... who knows what that means, really. xD

well nevermind it seems I was working with old info hehe >.< Still i dont think it will be that bad if the they roll crowd control into damage spells. I'm fine with a mostly elemental mage especially since i really love electric spells.
