How difficult is it to create a generic auto hak installer/updater that can be released to the building community and then customized by each builder to the specifics of their world/module?

I've played around and have created a hak installer with NSIS, but this would be something that would check for required haks and download, install, or update as necessary (rather than just install a hak).

I know there's been talk of this type of functionality to be incorporated into some NWN launcher programs (which I would fully support), but in absence of that, I'd love to have something that I and other hak-based builders can use that would simplify the burden on a playerbase to update haks.

It's one of the biggest hurdles to the use of new custom content, IMO, for every time you require players to update their haks, you run the risk of losing them.  Easing that process with an updater (if not an auto-check when the launcher is run), would help us utilize the great custom content created.

Thanks!

C'mon, now.  Surely somebody out there has experience with this sort of thing.

for my PW in work I was using WorldGate, this app is designed for NWN2 but works also in NWN1, the GUI and settings isnt as easy I would like but it works

some PWs have their own autodownloader and even my own PW in 2004 had one (we had really skilled developer back then) but it was mess to setup and we lost readme to that so thats why I switched to WG. Anyway, most PWs doesnt share a shi.. so thats why there is nothing like community hak updater. NWN2 handled this a lot better I agree.

btw, cant give you link i dont think this app has been migrated to new vault already

Cool, thanks.  Never knew WorldGate existed, but it seems to be a step closer to what I'm looking for.

Is this the WorldGate you're talking about?
