Why would they? Nothing Shepard did from ME1 to 3 should have any plot relevance in the next game.

 

If Bio are smart they will Distance the new games as far away as possible from the Original trilogy.

 

At best they will address 3 things in ME4. 1) Geth/Qurian 2) Krogan & 3) Red Blue Green 

 

 & with these 3 I'm hoping its just a short Cameo or Codex entry. Best to move away from the AIDS of the First trilogy as fast as possible.

 

As to their Canon? Probably Peace, Geno Cured & GREEN as they are the "Right" Choices

As to the Genophage, I'm betting one of two things: either the Genophage was sabotaged but the Krogan extinction is retconned out, or the Genophage was cured and the birthrate is retconned with the Krogan having live births.

 

Or maybe I'm wrong and the Genophage is cured canonically but the birth rate is never really mentioned in game.

 

And I sincerely doubt that they would canonize Synthesis. There isn't much potential there for an interesting story.

 

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I've got 4 maybe 5 indirect votes for a good ol' fashioned blue roast. We haven't had one of those for a little while.

Well given that bioware have said the new pc is *name* Shepard-T'soni I think it's quite clear what things are canon.

I would hope it would involve Destroy. Part of that is selfish (it's my canon ending), but I also think it is the easiet ending to craft a sequel from. The Reapers are gone, the nature of life hasn't been altered into green glowly sameness, and there is nothing about a utopia in its epilogue.

I think the background will be Sole Survivor (since Cerberus factored in so heavily) and Earthborn (since Earth was always the focus on ME3, you never discuss Mindoir or whichever ship Shep was on)

 

Though I'd prefer as few canon choices as possible. If Bioware had to pick a canon Shepard, they'd probably shroud in mystery to avoid the Revan/Meetra gender wars, and pick Liara as LI.

I've said before I expect Bioware would go male-spacer-solesurvivor-soldier-paragon-liaramancer, saves the Council, blows up the Collector Base, cures the Genophage, sides with the Geth (not everything can go right, also moar dramaz) ending in Synthesis.

I bet they'll just do an Ark ship.  That way only thing they will need to have to set is Saren/Sovereign (with possibility of Council saved or not) and Collectors.  Have the ship depart known space sometime early in ME3 (hell, Councillors do seem more than a little dubious about placing the hope of galaxy's survivor in a possibility of random Prothean blueprints saving everyone).  Minimal connection from previous games.  Allows some of the characters from ME1 and 2 that were not explicitly seen in ME3 to be used.  No need for set ending in ME3.

 

If the profile needed to be made, basing on the 'default' sets for KOTORs, I'd say

Spacer (not really important)

War Hero

Liara as LI (simplest to deal with as works for both genders)

And then eeeeevery single pure paragon pick, with maximum metagaming.

Destroy or Paragon Control as the ending, although most likely Destroy.

 

They did it for Revan, I'm sure they'd do it for Shepard. Even in DA they seem to be reverting to Martyr as default state.
