And take Deerber's link. That's how you accomplish it, but note that several powers will give you a brief black background every time you use it such as Overload.

Umm... no it does not. AF isn't in conflict with Biotic Charge. Powers with intense boom special effects or multiple particles will give you a brief black wallpaper in the background of the power. It gets annoying, and the only way to get rid of it is to remove the Startup_DLC_CON_MP<NumberOfDLC> from the DLC itself, but this causes multiple weapon and power conflicts with MP and SP which is bad.

Judging from the video, it appears it doesn't conflict with Nova either...as far as I can see. If I do another playthought, it'd be again a Novaguard, so...no problems, it seems.

That's because you haven't played with half decent players. That said, I can confirm that AF works flawlessly with all the powers of a novaguard.

No it doesn't. Nova does conflict with both Electric Slash and Biotic Slash since I can never get them to work with the Vanguard, and they must conflict with another power from the Adept since they don't work with the Adept either.

Maybe. But still you've to admit they're the ones with the most risk to be synced (the ones more in danger of it I mean). Besides, the "Charge-lose shields on impact" bug doesn't help either. That made me rage more times than I want to admit.
I've scored 150k more than once as a Novaguard on Gold. But I admit I've sweat rivers every time to manage that.

Back on topic: I don't think there would be any dilemma on rank 5. Someone reliable would do some math and if the results are almost the same I would go with BE buff.

Yes, they definitely need a bunch of learning on gold plus. But once you do that learning... You can easily play them (on host) stupidly aggressively in pretty much any situation and roflstomp everything, to the point where on gold, in the hands of a skilled player, an average hosting vanguard is a much faster killer than the average infiltrator.Maybe. You should try the power based Novaguard with a competent biotic team on a small map.
Then you can have a friendly competition who detonates combos faster and if the others can keep up with priming everything.
You are going to annihilate the enemy. IMO the stagger/damage of BEs will prevent most sync-kills.
About the "Charge-lose shields on impact" bug: As host you might have a split second to react with an Ops pack. Otherwise you should have some Gels, right? It can be frustrating, but staying alive --- most of the time --- while surrounded by enemies should somewhat make up for that.

Oh, I did
There was that EPIC match on Giant vs Cerberus where the other 3 players stuck together like glue, specially on higher places, and dedicated themselves on throwing artillery and priming everything in sigth while I novaguarded thei ass off the enemies. It was so epic I still remember it clearly although it was ages ago.
And yes, I used ops packs when that bug happened. But they're not infinite, you know, and there are more situations than that where I may need them. The thing is that Charge-crash just shouldn't happen.
Ah and that bug is a lot less common now, it almost never happens if you know how to handle your gates.

No, he's still going to sit out two waves a game after being sync killed.
What about if Bioware set it up so that sync = just go down. Rather then sync = getting killed. That way one might end up using more medi Gel, but one would not sit out multiple waves.
I think that would have helped. But... what if what if... its all moot.

AF should be on less characters, not more characters.
As for Warp on the character, I don't know. Maybe a different biotic power for one of the hammers might be better. Singularity, Stasis, Pull or Shockwave... might even lead to hilarity.
