Is there a reason why there's no PvP?

It's not a complain or demand. I'm just wondering why ME or DA don't implement PvP mechanics, it could just be an arena. If not directly fighting each other then to see who can kill the most. Based on the combat and gameplay so far, I feel like an PvP team-based could work very well for this game.

I think extra features like PvP could make people want to try and improve their characters more. I got bored with MP since the game lacks that competitive edge, I play a lot of MMO and PvP is often one of the best parts of the game for me. I just think that if they already have programmed arenas for coop, it wouldn't take that much resources to just pitching the players against each other as opposed to the AI.

A game designed entirely around being a single-player/co-op RPG typically would have abysmal balance when it came to PvP.

I think that it would be true if it's a single player based, but for a team based game where you can only one of each class in a match. The mage could use ice spell to freeze one opponent but they have to be close to that person, the rogue could sneak up and do a crit during the mage casting animation. It's still team based but you have to outsmart the other teams, not the dumb AI.

i say let them master multiplayer before they touch pvp.  I want pvp, but there are some issues they need to work out first IMO.

Didn't they have PvP for The Old Republic?

1) They didn't want to spend extra time and money on PvP.
2) They didn't want to balance for PvP.
3) They want to use microtransactions for the game, and if the game is PvP, that's no fair to those who don't want to pay.

Didn't they have PvP for The Old Republic?

Yes.

The Old Republic was far more expensive than Dragon Age: Inquisition and makes a ton more money.

Not every CC ability in the game is going to be single-target.

and it's not just CC that's problematic. Damage output is not designed with players having to survive it in mind.

Adding PvP may actually give people reasons to play the MP and spend money. The question about balancing is not about whether or not they want to balance the PvP, the question is whether or not maintaining and balancing could bring them more profit. Microtransaction is always in many MMO alongside with PvP. I don't think fairness has anything to do with implementing PvP. EA loves money, so if there are more people willing to pay for that competitive edge, I bet my next month salary they would add it in.

Well they didn't include it in ME3 with the reasons given being that it would be highly unbalanced and that Mass Effect was about unity and working together rather than competition.

and at this point I don't see them adding in PvP to DAMP as it would be a decent amount of work to add it in after the fact.

So I guess you'll probably owe me your next month's salary =P

lol, I said I would give my paycheck if EA wouldn't add PvP out of fairness instead of net profit. I have never trust any PC stuffs when it comes to announce reasons why such and such features are not in the game.

I don't think they will add it, but if more demands are there, then it could be added as a DLC pack or something. As long as the PvP experience separate from the PvE then I don't think it should matter whether it's there.

EA loves money. BioWare does not like angering their players.

The microtransactions in TOR are purely cosmetic. The microtransactions in DA MP provide a direct benefit to your characters. This is fine in co-op PvE. When you add this to PvP it blows donkey b****.

It's a side game within a side game, If people would get upset over these then MMO would have died long ago. Microtransaction is not a new thing in MMO and has been implemented in many popular games where the focus is on the MMO itself., even microtransaction that benefit the players.

You can get away with pay to win DEPENDING on how they do the gameplay.  I used to be a battlefield fan until they started releasing broken POS games and that game has pay to win.  If we are dueling then yes, that is bull.  Is it group play?  Is the pay to play giving actual weapons and armor?  How significant is ONE person on the enemy team?  Are there countermeasures or ways to take out players quickly? environmental aspects? is there a team or some type of special ability? How does the automatch or multiplayer matchmaking work?  Custom lobbies? Any kind of balancing?

Yes pay to win is complete bullshit and should die....but its not any time soon...especially when EA is the publisher.  There are ways to equal or balance things out if they are implemented.  I would be more concerned with bioware things than that....I wouldn't let pay to win completely stop me from getting pvp in a game.  Also there should be a token or an indicator on people who do purchase things.

Balance isn't everything.  Overcoming/adapting/winning when at a disadvantage is the feeling that gaming is all about to me.  It's why SOCOM USED to be such a great game.  Winning a game as SEALs on Deathtrap, Enowapi, or Sujo....thats whats up.

Sorry if i killed the thread.

I have 1 more thing to add.  During my time gaming I have ran into a sytem in RPGs....it may be commonplace now IDK i don't PC game anymore, but No matter how good the equipment you have on is....until you are a certain lvl that is the level that makes that item be at its full potential you get a % penalty for each level under that you are.  It's still a good item, but its only as good as what someone your level should/would have and you still get to use it.  The closer you get to the required level the more powerful it becomes.

PvP with 4 active abilities and no rebalancing?

What a waste of time.

Thematically, we're playing a game about uniting a people together to defeat a common enemy...how does a PvP mode fit into that? Also I can only imagine how PvP would be with the current multi-player system (not to mention Dragon Age type combat entirely.). Imagine PvP in Mass Effect 3's multi-player, but not balanced for PvP: worse, imagine it balanced for PvP...no more swooping across the map to assassinate as a N7 Shadow, and what all else.

Also because:

I want PvP just to hear a fan backlash when some classes and characters are nerfed. That would be a whole new level of outrage.

We're gonna get the butthurt from normal balance changes anyway.

The ME3MP forums were just amazing after Tactical Cloak got nerfed.

I know, I know. I thoroughly enjoyed it, it's funny how there was so much butthurt after the nerfs(which were vastly outnumbered by buffs by the way). I want to celebrate when guardians from Bioware will righteously nerf overpowered evil classes and weapons and buff proper good underwhelming characters and weapons in DAMP!

Like I enjoyed the destruction of Krysae and weakening of Piranha, Acolyte with the Tactical Cloak.

Pretty much. Overpowered class was righteously nerfed and underwhelming classes(engineers!) and characters were buffed.

The challenge is nice, but ultimately you wouldn't be able to do a lot of the cool stuff you'd want to do since you can't control someone else's character.

And really, that's what we come for, cool stuff.
