Whatever dude. While you're twirling your staff, I'm doing 500 ticks of damage every second to everything in a 10 mile radius with my AURA OF PAIN.

Crushing prison? More like tickling prison.

Gentle back-rub prison! With scented oils!

O what's that? Dont have enough mental resistance? Well in that case you are going to be locked in Crushing prison. Mages have the advantage of being range and unless you have a way to quickly reach the mage, you're done. Crushing prison, based on the previous two games doesn't have a time limit until it wears off, meaning that if you don't pass the mental resistance check, you're going to be locked permanently

This is exactly why there will be no PvP. I hate it when Mommy and Daddy fight!

Super-cereal though, the reason this will most likely be PvE only co-op is the DAMP game mode is meant to simulate Agents of the Inquisition. Unless the Inquisition has real internal cohesion or morale problems, because your Inquisitor is a really poor leader, I can't see the agents fighting each other to the death constantly, can you? It would also break the serious tone of the grave threat facing Thedas to have an endless internal 4v4 scrimmage game running in the midst of the Inquisition's ranks. Either way, DAMP seems "seated" thematically within the larger narrative of the Inquisitor's story and would need, for me anyway, some type of plot-related justification to incorporate PvP. If the game included a mode which would allow you to play as the Inquisition's antagonists, I feel it would divide the sympathies of the player between emotionally identifying with the Inquisition and its enemies. This is not to mention the Class-balancing issues from a game design standpoint which would need to be addressed, as others have mentioned.

However, in future games it could be cool if the protagonist's affiliations were more open-ended or you were playing as someone who must choose to join one of a number of competing organizations you do not control (and all the classes were balanced) to implement PvP... But mostly because I hate it when Mommy and Daddy fight! It's scary! ;)

A simple short and very ... hm let´s say frustrating answer could be: Yes there is a reason why DAMP is 4player Coop MP and not PvP and we just don´t know them.

Is your curiosity satisfied?

PvP would complety destroy the game because from day one people would be complaining about balancing issues.

Logically more powerful classes woulld have to be completely nerfed to make the game seem fair.

The game would have to be made about balance between pllayers rather than being built around playing a role.

People will always complain about balance changes, if their favorite OuPii weapon or power is somehow nerfed. It doesn't matter wether the game is PvP or PvE. Just can't wait for the weekly balance changes and the arsehurt incoming...

there is a way to nerf things down as i read on a page 1 post about a RPG style thing about certain levels and penalties this can work there is already two popular games with pvp in them that level sync to avoid problems with the buying and level differences etc they are Destiny and FF14 ARR, before anyone says this yes Destiny does have a disbalance with certain guns but thats a item itself it still gets sync to be weaker and matched up properly so basically everyone gets to be on the same level field, personally i rather see how the MP turns out and how well it works before PVP is even thought of maybe in a future patch in a form of practice between agents but till then best leave them to there work.

The problem isn't with level/item imbalance or anything like that. Those are easy to fix with a good matchmaking system.

The issue is that none of the abilities and characters have been designed with PvP in mind, which is going to make the balance downright embarrassing because it wasn't built to handle PvP. A lot of people don't want them to design things with PvP in mind because it means cutting out a lot of abilities that have been in Dragon Age since Origins or severely crippling them with nerfs.

I didn't play the MP until the game had been out for a year or so, but I can imagine the outrage when someone's favorite skill got nerfed.  ^_^

Still, if it was that bad already without having to worry about PvP, imagine the result with it.

For some it was outrage, for others it was pure entertainment. It was fun to see the whole commotion.

Lets not forget that the entire combat system in this game leans heavily toward cross class combos. Some classes are probably better at setting up others than others. This works well in co-op but in my experience less so in PVP unless you are working in clans/outfits or w/e. You are not just balancing classes against each otehr you are balancing combinations of classes against each other.

Of course it can be done, but by leaving the game as co-op only means BioWare's headaches are seriously diminished.

Spot on.

Balancing classes and abilities for PvP has a very homogenizing effect on said classes.

Look at the classes in Destiny; balanced with PvP as a large part of the game; and compare them to the classes in Borderlands 2; balanced (almost) entirely around PvE. The Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks of Destiny are essentially carbon copies of each other, with slightly different powers and effects, whereas the Mechromancer, Assassin, Gunzerker, Siren, Soldier, and Psyco all had very different play styles and gameplay mechanics.

Granted, both games revolve heavily around shooting things in the face, but I personally prefer the variation that Borderlands offers.

Yep, TOR was the same when I was still playing that. 4 mirror classes rather than 8 different ones.

Yes, it leans toward cross class, that's why I suggest team based PvP.

Because nerfing the player is seem down right unfair. And armor breaking spells would have to be in the game to balance it. And over 100 hours of just editting and fixing the game would force people to get upset for a delay that shouldn't have happen. Glitches plus more bugs. And why do you need PVP in dragon age? Do you want the world to end?

I dont like it.

If I want to pvp , I go to another unbalanced by pay and full of cheaters pvp game...this is so fkn bored and annoying, co-op is a pleasure.

It would be hilarious if they made PVP and then let mages have stuff like stone fist, crushing prison, root spells, cone of cold.  omg the rage would be amazing.

I would rather have fun abilities that simply wouldn't work in PvP than have fewer, more mundane abilities and be able to do PvP.

If only Smite style gameplay had been possible.

Balance would be tough but if possible, so cool.
