Can rogues wield long swords (not 2h ones, obviously) and not just knives?

No, rogues can only use daggers or bows (well technically axes too from the dlc pack, but they're just the same as daggers).

To be honest, I never looked to see if any of the weapons had prereqs for Attributes rather than class skill; might wish look to see if there are longswords that only require STR and the like.

Weapons like those used to be in the game due to a bug not giving them the class restriction, but they were patched in to have them. Before, you could equip
* Void's Hammer
* Allure's Crook
to any class provided you have the stats for them.
