The problem here is that you're reading one option, to read another line of text again. This seems like a terribly clumsy workaround. If you're going to have a silent option, the menu itself would have to adapt accordingly so that you actually read the full dialogue before selecting it, like you would in any game with a silent PC.

You could just hide the subtitle of the line (which is an option that already exists - to disable subtitles).  Then the paraphrase effectively becomes the full line, with no UI adjustment required at all.

I think I might delete the sound files for the Hero. I just worry if the game will crash searching for said files.

If you replace the files with blanks, it might work.

Filling the sound files with blanks might work if the files contain only the protagonist's dialogue. If the sound file contains the dialogue for the scene then the method will mute everybody in that scene.

It would all depend on how the sound files are constructed. Deleting the sound files would probably not be an option because the game will search for the file. The program will most likely throw an exception if the filename is missing. An exception that would not be caught because it is not expected.

The length of the sound file would probably need to be the same if the game uses checksums to validate the files.
