The title says it all and as it has been hinted to be a factor, plot wise at lest, i find myself wondering if one of your companion/allies/random quest dude betrayed you how would you react?

Would you forgive them?

End them?

Cast them out?

Personally i subscribe to Kain's view on betrayal and traitors alike "Cowards and traitors deserve no second thoughts, only their complete annihilation. "

So how about you?

Depends on the circumstances of said betrayal.

Mostly just cry a lot if it was Blackwall. Loyalty to the wardens vs. loyalty to the Inquisition = all the feels for days

Exactly. I may feel like flying into a killing rage and painting the walls with the betrayer's blood, but that only makes me more determined not to follow any impulse into a fast judgment. I will consider the circumstances carefully.

Probably kick them off the team or imprison them in the dungeon if letting them walk away was a security risk.

Depends.

If its severe enough, I would kill that companion making an example of him/her to others not to cross me.

Well people have talked about viv maybe being a traitor, but betrayal must be met with punishment in a way. but this is coming from the guy who spared Isabella after that selfish move.

This. If they're sorry I'll just give them a slap on the wrist, though, or at least require them to make up for it. I'm just the spare Loghain/Anders/Isabella/etc. type. Let it be known that I would probably not make a very wise leader.

What kind of betrayal? Is it just abandonment out of fear/already getting the stuff they wanted done/us plunging their approval into the negatives? Because that I don't have any problem with, honestly I'm glad when a character won't put up with our bs.

Now, if it's "this is the first quest you meet me and I mislead you into something but if you forgive me I'll become your companion" That I don't mind as well

If it's trying to kill me when I haven't done something to actually warrant it, or where they've been lying to me the entire time they were my companion, that I might take a bigger issue with.

Quite a few of you are saying "Depends" so allow me to expend on my original point:

1. Lets assume its a companion and they end up either joining the big bad or selling you out or had been a double agent this whole time, they may even be your LI so you can factor that in if you wish.

2. An ally sells you out to the benefit of his/her own people/organization/etc, it might be because he/she is a dirty good for nothing or it might be that he/she has lost faith in your ability to win, it might even be that they are being coerced.

3. Random quest dude/tte gives you a task, when you get to location of said task you are ambushed, turns out Random quest dude/tte set you up, now he/she might have a very good sob story lined up, such as they threatened his life/family/pet Nug, remember he/she might be lying.

Now what would you do:

1. Kill/Butcher/Slay the would be traitor/s (The most efficient route Imo)

2. Imprison them (though for the life of me i cant figure why you would want to waste resources on traitorous scum).

3. Exile/Banish them ( That may end-up biting your in the ass)

4. Forgive them ( The most likely option that might bite you in the ass, hope your wearing reinforced loincloth)

Go! :D

*sigh*... I had made a joke about "decimatio" but totally misremembered how it worked... :pinched:

I guess you could still use it on the normal soldiers if not the party members, though...

Magefire, OP.

Betray me, it will consume you.

Defy me, it will purify you.

That means joining the other side, leaving the party, or stealing my cereal.

In response to your "Depends" post and considering how I'm gonna fully roleplay the inquisitor as 'me' as possible I'd say:

1- Kill. They've caused far too many deaths, they're no different from the big bad if not worse, lied to me in the worst ways possible and that's just unforgivable.

2- Forgive. I can understand their motivation and loyalty, but through forgiveness at least I can show them that they can trust me, if they think I'm weak because of so, then it's their own loss.

3- Imprison/Kill. Depends on my mood really.
