November is going to be massive. No less than five big names hitting store shelves and getting into the hands of millions within 30 days of each other.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Grand Theft Auto V (PS4/XBO)
Far Cry 4
Dragon Age: Inquisition

Although I'm only getting Call of Duty, Halo and Dragon Age on release, it's going to be a very good month for videogames overall.

Dragon Age isn't necessarily in direct competition with these days games, given the respective genre of each, but there's going to be a lot of money thrown at the industry, Dragon Age included. I'll be interested to see the charts when November is over to see what did come out on top. My initial guess would be Call of Duty, unless that many people are interested in picking up Grand Theft Auto V on current gen.

It's a great month if you like console based shooters.

Otherwise I'm just happy that the summer drought is ending and I'll be getting my hands on Dragon Age.

I had no plans on buying those other games, and I have no plans now. I only care about DAI coming out. I know many people that are just like me. Are there *that* many people that overlap for COD and DAI?    I don't know about anyone else, but I usually already know what games I'm interested in and I save money up for those games.  I think I heard Far Cry 4 is also out that day or around it, that's another game I'm not interested in and if I was I would already have plans to save up money for it.

I plan on buying all 4 games. COD releases before Halo so I will buy COD for the story and some casual multiplayer gaming. Then I will get Halo. I will not really replay the campaigns, but I will play some multiplayer. Then DAI/GTA comes out. Of course I will play DAI first, but then I'll dive into GTA after my first DAI playthrough and will alternate between COD/Halo multiplayer.

I like to be able to turn my brain off and enjoy them when the mood strikes me. But either way, two fun shooters to play while waiting for Dragon Age. Sounds fun to me.

But yeah. The summer draught is indeed coming to an end. There are games to play.

Call of Duty campaigns have always been good fun. Have been since the 2003 original and it continues to be the case, if that's what you're after. As for story itself... Yeah. Don't go to Call of Duty if you want brilliant writing or a good, complicated plot.

I don't do FPS. It's not the shooter thing that puts me off, but the perspective. I've never been comfortable with simply being a "gun on a screen."

I was going to buy The Master Chief Collection, GTA V and Dragon Age: Inquisition on launch day, but since I'm just a filthy casual who doesn't have the mental capacity to understand a game with the complexities of Dragon Age: Inquisition, I guess I'll just pass.

I don't think Kall was insulting the playerbase of those games, just stating that they are a different genre of game than Dragon Age. While there is some overlap in audience, such as players like you, ultimately they have different target markets. Just like how a movie that is a raunchy comedy and a movie that is a historical drama don't tend to market to the same audiences. It doesn't mean there aren't people that like both though.

They're just remastered (essentially) editions of FPS games that I think mainly hardcore FPS fans of those series are really interested in - that or more general FPS fans who planned on waiting for remastered editions of those games.

If DA:I had had to compete with multiple major RPG releases, then you might have had a point. I think that the assorted FPS games are the ones that are going to have to be concerned about competition/cannibalization from their direct competitors. DA:I is pretty clearly going to be the only major RPG release in the foreseeable future, so I believe that this is ultimately a non-issue.

Blah bla bla DAI will be fine.

I think it will sell longer than any of the competition just on the strength of it being a RPG. But industries in general are looking at first week/month sales to judge whether something is or isn't a 'success'. Sometimes that's what determines whether a title will or won't get a sequel.

But sure keep saying people are crying wolf if that makes you feel better. If it's as good as it looks I'll be using word of mouth though. Just to stay on the safe side.

It should be fine I would imagine. I played GTA V on last-gen already so just Inquisition in my case. Some people will probably get one sooner and another game at a later point. For some of those games I don't think there's that much crossover between them. Some people might be interested in Battlefield but not Dragon Age and vice versa.

It could be a problem for someone who's interested in DAI but has to decide what they find as more valuable for their money. GTA V or DAI? CoD or DAI? Maybe some people are going to buy COD/GTAV now and ignore what would've been a DAI purchase. I haven't read this thread but I'm sure the inevitable generalizations are going to happen where people who buy CoD aren't going to buy DAI anyway. That's not true at all. Some people like myself like almost every genre of game. I'm currently playing Destiny and can't wait to get DAI/GTAV. Some people will not be as fortunate on their budgets and are going to choose.

I hope this does not end up with DAI being pushed back to December which has very little competition. Another big game coming out that month is FarCry 4 which might be delayed. I don't think Bioware has to worry too much though. They don't exactly have a lot of big AAA RPGs this year and this will be THE ONE to get. While it has a lot of competition it's coming out around Black Friday which is when consumers tear it up in the holiday season in America. It's actually a smart release window minus going against GTAV. If their game is going to be successful it will be that weekend when more people are in the stores than ever. America is not everywhere obviously but it's a massive market for Bioware to do good in.

The only issue I see with their game coming out near Black Friday is consumers might feel they should spend their money elsewhere due to DAI not seeing steep discounts. I would imagine EA is hoping that with the game being fresh and more people seeing it on the shelves...they can sell it for as much as possible. A lot of people get rid of their Xmas shopping in that time too.

CoD players usually play only that mostly, I have ended GTA V already on PS3 so I will buy it only now for PC which will come on January 2015.

None of those games are RPG's so genre difference matters the most. If bioware should worry then it should be about WoW Warlords of Draenor which releases on November 21 THE MOST.

And I knew the generalizations were in this thread when I made that post above without even reading. This is actually the first post I read since I posted that and you were behind me. But yeah, this is a bad generalization. Really bad. I like Call of Duty, Madden and Wasteland 2...where does that put me in this generalization? I don't get how someone can generalize a gaming population like that especially one so big as CoD.

Well, the PC version of GTA V isn't coming out until January, and I'd say PC probably has the most people who haven't actually played GTA V yet and would buy it over something else.

Though I know about as much as Jon Snow when it comes to demographics and marketing, so meh.

I think some folks here may be underselling the effect of multiple anticipated games across various genres for plenty of gamers. Inquisition is fighting an uphill battle to reclaim Dragon Age's viability as a brand name and none of the other big titles are really dealing with that on such a level. It will be impacted by the number of games around it and especially those others which are launching on November 18th. Sales will be reflective of that relationship. There are many consumers with diverse tastes and kneejerk purchase decisions in the industry.

It will not, of course, be as bad as having RPGs to contend with.

They're not saying all CoD players only play CoD/other shooters, just that usually that is the case. You are an exception to the rule. Are there many people who are exceptions? Sure. But for the most part, certain genres market to a particular audience. I enjoy romantic comedies and action movies, but I'm not going to pretend they target the same audiences. This is basic marketing logic. DAI and CoD are not direct competitors. They are both video games, yes, but they have completely different audiences. Some of those people overlap, but ultimately, they are hitting different markets.

True, but I really don't think that DAI has that much to worry about going against these games. They're different genres, and stuff like Halo and GTA are re-releases (and on more limited variety of platforms), therefore not hitting as large of a population. Will there be some loss due to the release coinciding with the others? I'm sure, but I don't believe the loss will be so great that we need to worry about it.

@ Kaiserian Xerxes

Yeah, but I can't seem to get my bearings with that interface. For some reason, I don't have a proper sense of where my feet are supposed to be and it disorients me and makes the experience uncomfortable. It's a shame because there are some FPS games that look like they'd be sort of neat.
