They're not saying all CoD players only play CoD/other shooters, just that usually that is the case. You are an exception to the rule. Are there many people who are exceptions? Sure. But for the most part, certain genres market to a particular audience. I enjoy romantic comedies and action movies, but I'm not going to pretend they target the same audiences. This is basic marketing logic. DAI and CoD are not direct competitors. They are both video games, yes, but they have completely different audiences. Some of those people overlap, but ultimately, they are hitting different markets.

They have absolutely no facts to back a statement up like that. It's a sweeping generalization even to say most or usually without any data. They might have a lot more people than you know now deciding not to pick DAI up simply because of these release date changes. Ubisoft has The Crew, Assassin's Creed and FC4 all on that day too. AC is another huge franchise.

Well you forgot Assassin Creed unity, but all in all these games don't really compete with an rpg game, audience wise at lest, sure Unity and GTAV might grab a few eyes but they're no rpgs.

Now suicide would have been to release DA: Inquisition alongside the Witcher 3...Now that would have hurt sales big time.

Now as far as i'm concerned Inquisition is still the top priority game in November, i still intended to play Farcry 4 and Assassin's Creed Unity first, but that's only because i'm stuck on the non-us release. <_<

Also, if memory serves me well, Assassin's Creed Unity is hitting stores early Novemeber.

But I don't think much of this affects Dragon Age. You only get a game like Inquisition once, maybe twice a generation. GTAV has been out forever now, Halo has also been out forever and played to death (I'm still getting it though... don't judge me) and Assassin's Creed is like Call of Duty, there's about six of them that are almost the same.

As an observation, I'd call Inquisition the "must have" game in November, the others can wait or get a pass.

It seems that many are missing the fact that DA:I probably has the highest budget of a BioWare game ever, so there's a need for larger sales if we want to continue playing games of this level of production values.

And for those numbers, RPG enthusiasts aren't enough, they need the mainstream gamers.

Dragon Age Origins survived being released the same month as Modern Warfare 2.  It's going to be fine.

Was a Halo game and GTA game also in that same month?

If it's a good game, it'll sell well just like DAO and ME2 did.

Have they said anything about budget though? I would imagine SWTOR was much much higher in budget. That said I can't think of many RPGs off the top of my head that are runaway commercial successes outside the Elder Scrolls games. I can think of a few MMOs but that's a little different. Traditional RPGs? Final Fantasy I guess. I've never seen RPGs as being a mega popular commercial success compared to other genres that see big numbers. I think Skyrim is one of the few that has comparable numbers to say the FPS genre. I think it will pay off for Bioware in the end though because in my personal conversations it's attracting a lot of people who were not DA fans. Perhaps they did broaden their appeal as they hoped and are going to tap into a bigger market like Skyrim did.

*edit* Oh yeah, maybe Fallout 3 but that's tied under the Bethesda belt. Blizzard games typically sell millions like Diablo 3 but that applies to all Blizz games. I can only think of a select few franchises that see massive numbers. Would be interesting to compare the RPG market to other genres in numbers sold like FPS. You would think EA has a reasonable number in their mind for DAI to sell early and be a success without grossly overrating their assets. I guess it all depends on exactly how much budget is behind this game. Outside SWTOR, it does look like the biggest game they've ever done.

Exactly. Along with JeffZero's observation that DA:I is coming off of DA2's and to a lesser extent ME3's reputation makes this topic something to ponder. If first month sales aren't enough for EA to consider it a success... Damn.

That's an interesting observation too because a lot of people who were upset about DA2/ME3 might be waiting to see the public reaction to DAI meaning they go in a different direction that day. We all know EA as a major publisher likes them first day numbers to please shareholders. I shiver to think at what EA would do to Bioware if DAI did not meet expectations.

On a positive note, Bioware/EA appears to be confident in their property to release it on a loaded day. That should say a lot.

the games you just mentioned are just rip offs

COD is always the same- boring as **** but hold on we got suits this time

GTA V (Next Gen) definitely got some improvements but still its hardly a new game

and after so many bought it on last gen I doubt that many will now

Halo Master Chief Collection is poor Microsoft trying to get some money I mean they only got Halo so why not release 10 year old games again?

As you can see I don't think there is anything to worry about for DA:I at least not in terms of competition

they just have to get a better reputation again

I liked both DA2 and ME3 but I know that many didn't and have lost faith in Bioware for that

So we will just have to wait and see

Damm I hope its succesfull I want more DA games for many years to come

I just checked Amazon and while it's not exactly data that means a lot right now...DAI is rated #2,078 in Video Games, #76 PS4, #88 X1. That said, I remember seeing it on there at one time being in the top 5. No telling how many pre-orders they have right now just on Amazon.

In comparison, Witcher 3 which is coming out at a later date is at #1,334 in Video Games #77 on PS4, #82 X1.

Looks like DAI is in good position right now if Amazon is a good indicator as to what other retails are seeing. W3/DAI are similar markets. If you were to look at something like AC:Unity it's at #110 in Video Games, #17 PS4, #23 X1 but an entirely different genre of game. AC is also a much bigger franchise than DA commercially.

CoD's just trying to copy Titanfall. Except with exo-skeletons instead of Titans.

Well, CoD never was too good at copying stuff.

In the end I know I will play DA:I more then unity, far cry 4 or gta v rpgs. true ones come with many paths and options always have more vaule over time.

It will end up people will get their favorite action games/shooter out of the mix and DA:I.

Assuming unity doesn't get delayed I know will have a week to beat it before FC 4 and DA:I so it really won't be an issue, that is always the thing with action games and so on shorter time to complete.

Edit: got numbers mixed up

Yeah, I have not decided what to do with my schedule. I think I am going to start with Far Cry 4 since I think I can power through it the fastest. But then I think I will play DAI, then GTA5 last. It will be tough to juggle so many games at the same time. Not including AC Unity coming out the week before. But it is a good problem to have.

Never played a GTA game.  Have no desire to do so either, to be perfectly honest.

I have also never viewed games as being competitors of each other either.   If its a game I want to play I will buy it regardless of what other games might release around the same time.   Some times I buy games simply because its a genre I feel like supporting.    For example, Warlock 2 came out about a week before Age of Wonder 3.   Both are nearly identical games in the fantasy strategy game genre, so I bought both.   I still haven't had much time to delve into Age of Wonders 3 yet, but played enough of it so far to make me feel like its money well-spent to support the future creation of similar games.

Oh, I knew there's a good reason I don't remember that guy.

I only saw Blops 2 on Youtube. It wasn't very good.

That is... surprisingly fitting.

I am... Surprised in the Confidence that EA & Bioware have in DA:I, releasing their "Come Back" Game in the Annual triple A Cluster **** that is November.

What kind of Mad Man would release a game in the same month as CoD, Assassins Creed, Halo, Far Cry & Grand Theft Auto? The totally bat **** insane kind B)

That's like 90% of the Market's Spending right there

EA probably dumped about 60 to 80 million into this game from the looks of it, so anything under 3 Million sales by the end of the year probably isn't going to be taken all that well by the Suits.

As rcRidesh said, EA need mainstream gamers to pick up DA:I and seeing how Over saturated November is with Established Block Buster Games... things ain't looking all that great. Sure RPG gamers will pick it up, but do you think there is 3 to 4 million Hardcore DA fans? IDK

Looks like EA are going to have to splash the Cash & launch a pretty Badass Marketing Campaign for DA:I  to go toe to toe with the big boys.

BTW I can't help but think that RockStar were Trolling Bioware with the Nov 18th release date  Talk about bad luck

If Rockstar are indeed trolling BW with the release date, their chances of getting my money have just thinned. I didn't even think that was possible.
