DA:I's release date is the most crowded week I've ever seen for gaming.

Folks are just not understanding. EA invested a lot of money into DA:I. It's their only non-sports title dropping for the rest of this year. DA:I has a lot of competition during launch. That will make a dent, like it or not. Add in the fact that BioWare's reputation has soured for more than a few people. Genre won't matter if the suits are looking at quarterly numbers. It isn't about whether the game will or won't sell. It will. RPGs have a very long shelf life. It's about whether or not the suits like the close-to-release numbers enough and if they think it warrants expansions and sequels.

It's not hard to understand, I just don't see it as a real potential issue, unless the suits have been living in a cave and didn't know those games were being released in said month.

Of course there will be a dent, if they are smart they should have taken that into account in their projections.

Also, MP microtransactions over the long run aren't necessarily going to be affected by this.

These games have competition with each other, but I'm pretty confident the Dragon Age audience is not the same as the CoD/Halo/GTA one at all, not enough to impact sales that's for certain.

(Praying that the game isn't delayed.)But yeah DAI is gonna have some competition in the sales department.

How are these 5 games not going to eat away at each other's potential sales?

Shadow of Mordor will have been out on PC/PS4/One for over a month by the time DA:I releases. Only people still stuck on the PS3/360 get it in November. Most players will be done with it by then; I know I will.

GTA V has been out for a year now, most people have played it to exhaustion already. Only people looking to replace it on the PS4/One will get this. PC players continue to wait until at least next year.

Far Cry 4 is like... okay, but DAI is not exactly competing for the same audience here. If it was an Elder Scrolls games I'd get it, but it's Far Cry.

I don't even know what is a Little Big Planet is except that it has chibis or something. Seriously don't see how chibis are in direct competition with high fantasy RPG.

All of these sales are targeted to rather different audiences, they can co-exist without cannibalizing each other. SoM would be the only direct competition to DAI on the RPG market, but again, it'll have been out for a month on PC and new gen consoles, so it doesn't really matter much at that point.

CREAM is the only language they speak. They figure if they throw Skyrim money at it that it will sell like Skyrim. If investors get pissed they'll pull the plug with no remorse.

Yeaaaah um DA:I is a very different genre from those other games. There may be some overlap but they definitely don't cater to the same interests. I for one am super excited about DA:I and would rather watch paint dry than play any of those other games listed in the OP even if they were given to me for free. :?

Only real competition it has is Far Cry 4 in my opinion. Not in terms of genre, but in terms of game quality. I'm an hardcore RPG fan for 18 or so years, but I can't deny that Far Cry 3 was a really exhilarating experience, way more in depth and expansive than the average shooter of its genre. Far Cry 4 looks to be just as good.

Still, they are totally different genres. Kind of hard to compare them.

Also pretty much every other game there is a re-release and rehash of a game many have previously played. I'd say DA:I is perfectly fine in terms of sales that week/month.

If something like Elder Scrolls or Dark Souls came out on the same day, then yeah I'd say that's some legitimate competition.

YES

Raul Menendez was just great, one of my favorite antagonists. Black Ops 2 was an incredibly pleasant surprise as far as the story goes all around (loved the implementation of choice and consequences in there too).

I am also one of the mythical creatures that plays CoD primarily for SP.

On topic, as many have stated, there will be some overlap, I myself enjoy all franchises listed, but I doubt it will be a big overlap all things considered.

Wait CoD have story for real? And developers know this?

People will buy what they want to buy. I'm sure they'll reach their goal regardless. I'm not interested in any of those, except for DA:I and Pokemon ORAS (which is releasing the 21st). So, at best, everyone is going to be stealing everyone's thunder. Sales numbers only matter to the big guy up top because I hear money makes nice wallpaper!

The only one I'm interested in for that date is DA:I. That date gives me almost a month of playing Civ:BE, which is the only other upcoming game I want.

They don't, we make the story up in our heads while feeling good for pwning the AI since we obviously can't cut it out in MP.

I never got the "This does not have the same audience" train of thought, Do people only play one genre of games? How limiting... I love Farcry, i love GTA and i love Dragon Age... and they are totally competing to me (Or would be, if GTA5 was a new game.), but eh... Dragon Age wins this one.

Not a real danger to an rpg, mmorpgs are a different  area and wow  while still highly popular expasions never seem to last people that long, But we shell see.

It's nice that you folk are mainly interested in just DA:I but i wouldn't discount those of us with a more diverse gaming taste, some of which will have to make a decision and DA:I may lose out (not me, i'll get pretty much everything). You might not care but remember, it's also about the future of the brand (and Bioware). Hopefully, DA:I will be an enthusiastically received game that will be able to prevail amongst the competition. Then again, pretty much every November is crowded, the holiday months can support multiple titles.

Why does it have to be one or the other?
I can understand that some gamers have to be sparing with their money and can only afford one game at a time, but I would think that a considerable number of gamers either have the funds to buy several, if not all of those games, or else have saved up specifically, or perhaps will be bought them as presents.
Then it just becomes a case of "which should I play first?"
