Alistair lied to the PC, He was getting high all game, this explains a lot, Lyrium is required.
Where does it say that lyrium gets templars high? All that's said is that it is used to provide or enhance magic ability, continued use develops tolerance (diminishing returns), and withdrawal produces unpleasant physical and psychological symptoms that can result in death.
If someone has a source that states using lyrium produces euphoria or an altered state of consciousness, I'll take back my argument, but until then I'll say that lyrium is a weapon used by templars on mages that carries a high long-term cost.

Its just a funny way to explain him using it.
It also has side effect reminiscent of cocaine so its apt to me.

Thank you for the quote. Such a shame - I was hoping this wasn't just another justification for Alistair bashing, but I guess it's got merit. Now he's a whiner, an addict, an idiot, and oh, yes, dead once and for all. And they wonder why some Alistair fans hate Leliana with such passion.
