I personally refuse to ever run without Repair Matrix. Not for the auto revives; lag makes this unreliable. No, this is the absolute last thing on my mind when popping Repair Matrix. It's worth it for three crucial reasons, and these three reasons are so important, that I actually legitimately get angry at times PUGs refuse to use it and then still have the nerve to cry into their mics about how they don't have RM and need help.
Primary Reasons:
- Movement Speed Increase: You basically have an on/off switch to become a drell, but tougher. Considering Drell are considered to be amazing by many players of higher skill levels, this one should speak for itself.
- Damage Reduction: I'm sorry, but if you CAN have DR, there's really not much of an excuse to NOT use it. It's amazing how often I watch people who insist on playing without DR die horrible deaths that would have been EASILY survivable WITH it. Sure, it's only 20% (Assuming you went 4a 5b, 6a) but a very temporary 95% after an auto-res, which should enable you to fight your way out of almost any scenario, barring sync-kills.
- Shield Regen: The AIU, with Repair Matrix, is the ONLY infiltrator that gets shields back WHEN CLOAKED. Tapping Cloak for damage purposes will not bring your shield recovery to a screeching halt, which is amazing in multiple scenarios. Ravagers and Primes, for example, will become incapable of killing you, as the shields restored between shots of the burst will just mean the next shot needs to take down your shields again. This, coupled with the DR, adds a lot more sturdiness than you might expect.
- Just a refresher on why the above are important: you're using SHOTGUNS and a power that STOPS SHIELD RECOVERY. Mobility and durability are crucial.
Secondary reasons:
- The Alternative is fitness. 775/1163 vs 500/750? The damage reduction and shield regen more than pay for themselves within the first seconds of use.
- While unreliable, the auto-res is nice when it does work. Still, this pales in comparison to the reasons listed above.
- They're grenade based, which means you can pop them during your cooldowns, unlike the comparable Biotic Focus.
Let me make this very clear. I know a lot of people hate powers like this and Stim Packs as they limit offensive grenades. Well, the very simple fix is don't use multiple grenade users! If I see someone that relies on grenades come into the room while I'm an AIU, I'll actively change characters to be courteous. Why do I point this out? So everyone doesn't go all "stop hogging my 'nades" on me.
