So I have seen a few threads about this but never seen a definitive answer. Is there a way for us to make the world at large not call us The Herald? Or will the options to distance ourselves from it only matter to our companions and such? Will villager number 4 and random solider 206 always call us the Herald no matter what?
Do we HAVE to be The Herald of Andraste

No answer so far. The game itself will likely provide the answers.

Seems likely the title will be attached to any Inquisitor.

Err...I'm hoping we can ditch the Title (Gonna play Female Mage Qunari)....so really that would stink . Would have been nice if the title is race Gated or depanding on some actions you take (kinda like Hawke personality , if you use many goodie answer...Hawke answer become more polite and vice versa) .
I personaly wouldn't mind the Title as such , it just.....the fact that the chantry dropped Andraste as a mere sidekick (when she is the one who did everything) and glorified the maker in her stead...that ****** me off . So I feel like , even if I wanted to be Andraste champion (Maybe as an elf for her action toward my peoples for exemple)...I cant help but feel like I be waving the chantry flag . (sigh) Wish I could have Andraste without the chantry connotation that go with it .
But in any case , yes . If the title is forced......I'm gonna be grumpy the whole time and will yell alot in peoples faces lol I mean...at least give me a cool nickname like ArchAngel or something ![]()

Maybe they'll hate the Dalish less that way.

The game calls you the Herald of Andraste when you approach rifts.
So, yeah, sorry.

To be fair, Andraste was the one waving the Maker flag.
Not the Chantry.
It was Andraste's kids who made her a demigod.

I remember devs saying 'no, you'll have other options'. Too lazy to look up the tweet. Pretty sure it was Mike Laidlaw, though.

They've said that we'll be able to either embrace or deny the title. I doubt most would listen to you if they just want to find a new hero to save them.

Why would you want to turn down that title? I think it would go perfectly with the Tal-Vashoth Mage I plan on making.

You can probably deny it privately with the party members, but not publicly. If it is possible to speak out publicly, I would hope that the Inquisition takes a hit to their public perception as a result. Choices are great but only when there are appropriate consequences attached.

some people here are super anti-chantry and find offense to even the slightest bit of religious trappings being forced on their character.
I hope they play it for comedy ala the Life of Brian.

I don't see why someone would necessarily embrace that title, particularly if the main character follows another faith. I don't see my Dalish, Dwarven, or Vashoth accepting the religious connotations associated with a religion none of them believe in.

It's a useful political tool. It might be galling, but we have to start somewhere.

Sufficient, sure, but there's no reason to destroy resources that are spontaneously given to us.

Well, regardless of race if the glowing figure is Andraste and she is the one who gives you your powers then the title is accurate.

Being the only person who can stop the Breach is a sufficient enough tool.
That depends on many factors.
Namely if the breaches are only appearing in the area the game takes place within.
I cannot see Nevarra overly caring about what Fereldan or Orlais think about some one closing breaches.

I don't know how I'm going to roleplay it.
It seems it would be impossibly arrogant for a faithful Andrastrian to claim it from the beginning.
But I worry that will seal off claiming it later as you grow into the role.

I doubt they will make it that black and white. I seriously don't think they will ever confirm that the figure is Andraste even if it is meant to be.
