It'll depend for me on the circumstances of how the titles comes about, so I can't really say for me first Quizzy.  For my others...I definitely think there will be at least one who will take...full advantage of the title and all that comes with.  ;)   I'd be disappointed if they didn't let us play it up for our own benifit

I plan to play male human warrior in my first playthrough. He will be... skeptical about the whole thing.

I like Andraste. She had the whole Maker-Maferath threesome thing going on. I'll Herald for her. "TWO husbands for every wife! In fact, two husbands for every husband!"

My dalish will object loudly and not so secretly believe it's all so the shems are more comfortable in taking orders from an elf.

My Dalish elf mage will find it amusing to observe just how the humans do react to the title, particularly the Chantry priestesses.

If people take it seriously, then I'll start making demands; such as restoring Shartan to the Chant; restoring his ears on the pictures of him; commission a lot of pictures showing the elves aiding Andraste.     I'm certainly going to recruit soldiers from among the alienages and get them properly trained up and armed as representatives of the Inquisition.   Then lets see the Chevaliers try using elves as target practice.    Also push for national laws that discriminate against elves being revoked (I'm looking at you Alistair/Anora but I'm sure other nations are guilty too).    Ensure that those so called scholars at the Orlesian university who compared elves to prey animals and said that having sex with them was equivalent to lying with beasts, are dismissed from their posts, stripped of all titles and made to serve in the local brothels.   Generally push for equal treatment of elves under the law, so people guilty of their murder, rape or whatever, are punished.

If, after all the above, they are still calling me the Herald of Andraste, I'll think the title well used.   Then I'll move on to the restoration of the Dales to the elven people.    Also make Varric responsible for my publicity and ensuring that everyone throughout Thedas knows the Herald of Andraste is an elf and a mage.

It would be nice to have the same option you have with Vega in mass effect as in they stop calling you by a name or inquisitor and instead you can tell them to address you has the herald of Andraste.

I definitely will hopefully there are opportunities to take advantage of this title (in terms of money or in certain shops)

But people calling me "Herald of Andraste" and almost worshipping me as some kind of miracle

that should do I suppose

I will embrace the title for a purpose.  It is an useful rallying cry to gather behind and I am a huge proponent of the "Cult of Personality".

This is not to abuse the title in any way - my character will find the teachings of the Chant to be useful philosophy, and admire Andraste for her exploits, but he is not a devout Andrastian.

Among my close cadre - I would not so much express doubt, after all - in a magical world where I survive a magical blast and wake up with a magical hand and see visions of glowing beings and fight magical evil beings - saying "Gods are absolutely impossible" seems the furthest thing from a logical conclusion one could possibly make.  But - he will not focus on this potential status - preferring not to focus on what it might mean for him, but rather how it might help the cause and bring the world back to a place that doesn't need a "Herald of Andraste."

Your titles merely insult me, Shemlen.

(Heck, maybe I'm overdoing the "bad attempt at roleplay" part?)

I will, but never for orthodox Andrastianism. I will be a messiah of the change that comes rolling along like a storm, to the extent of my ability.

I mean, my main Inquisitor will. Even my dalish one will (he doesn't hate Andraste, just the current followers of her). My qunari one also will accept it cuz why the hell no?

Only my Cadash will give no damn. Money and family is all what's worth fighting for

I'm looking forward to flaunting my heathen Dalish ways. "HEAR THAT SHEMS? I'M the herald of Andraste!" I will be sorely disappointed if there isn't some sort of snarky comment about it. It's a perfect set up.

Welp, I realized earlier today why your character has a very reasonable reason to be convinced that they're the Herald of Andraste.

I think I will quote that here:

Well, there IS one other point to make for why we're Andraste's Herald and not the Herald of someone else.

Where does the Fade rift occur? In what location is there a massive magical explosion?

The Temple of Andraste's Ashes, which is so full of Lyrium imprinted with the beliefs of Andraste's early followers that it would manifest historical figures relevant to Andrastian beliefs. Not Dalish, Dwarven, or Qunari beliefs.

Andrastian beliefs.

However it may have occurred, that stuff wasn't lightly imprinted or anything. I would say that the whole mountain itself was devoutly Andrastian. We know from Justice that a Spirit can sense something of an individual from their belongings and remains, and Andraste's remains were physically there in that Lyrium rich location and likely physically there at the center of that explosion.

So, what sort of effect do you think all of that would have if its energy was just suddenly released? Energy which has manifested people capable of speech and giving riddles, as well as capable of knowing the secrets and history of people present.

Do you think that energy would suddenly decide to be an Elven Creator, or believe itself to be the Stone of the Dwarves? I mean, sure. It probably actually is the Stone in some way, containing the imprints of Ancestors and everything, but that's not how the essence of that Lyrium infused Andrastian mountain is going to present itself.

With all of that energy flying about and the easily manipulated Fade being brought closer, that ****** Mountain is going to decide it must be Andraste herself. That's what all of the focus of attention in the mountain was centered on,l and that's what it would likely manifest.

Plus, it was a gathering of Chantry leadership that was wiped out in the blast, so that probably only adds to the Andrastian influence that this Fade Tear would have.

That's why you're the Herald of Andraste and not someone else. For a Dwarf you could probably claim that she was an Ancestral Spirit in the Stone, but it'll still be something that believes itself to be Andraste. You would just have to be a bit impressed that the Stone accepted a Human into itself.

So, that's the note I will leave off on. Whatever the hell was created in that explosion, it's probably been imprinted with whatever amount of Andraste that remained with her ashes as well as the beliefs of all of her followers that came to that mountain.

It's supposed to be the Temple of Andraste's ashes that the meeting is being held at, and we know how that whole place is just completely imprinted with Andrastian beliefs. The precise mechanism doesn't really matter, but chances are that a good deal of the power released in that explosion is going to identify itself as Andraste.

Or at least, that's one potential interpretation.

So, from the perspective of our character, they're probably going to have more reason to believe they're the Herald of Andraste than a bunch of Chantry members falling all over themselves to worship them because they survived an explosion.

I think we're going to actually meet Andraste, or at least a reasonable facsimile of her.

No, I already planed my first PT with a dwarf that thinks the Chantry is the most chaotic and useless institutions created in human history. If they want to control the mages than they should be more efficient like the Qunari and if they want to have strong historical figures, at least have more than one and preferable without being defeated so easily.

In the end she sees no reason to control mages, sure they have a lot of power but for someone with supposedly great strength they sure die really quick. Unless there is something to gain over preserving the Chantry, she will not side with them or any their beliefs. Of course she will not seek it's destruction but helping mages most probably will do that.

My Qunari will. She's not religious but having humans look up to her as a figure to be aspired to has it's uses.

My mage will be bitterly amused and my rogue will probably play it up for free drinks and coin.

The only one I can see being annoyed is maybe my female warrior but that's merely because she doesn't like being the center of attention period.

And what if, as I suspected and wrote up in my post above, your Qunari is contacted by a powerful being that fully believes and presents itself to be Andraste?

Then she'd believe it's some spirit that's full of itself. There's no lack of those in the fade.

Fair enough.

But if this being has decided you are its Herald for whatever reason, I think that may add an additional layer of complexity to the issue. I guess it all depends upon how much influence this potential Andraste will have on your character.

Whatever the case is, it seems likely that your character will have some sort of connection to a powerful Fade entity that possibly believes itself to be Andraste, and I think my character would try to remain on its good side.
