Fair enough.

But if this being has decided you are its Herald for whatever reason, I think that may add an additional layer of complexity to the issue. I guess it all depends upon how much influence this potential Andraste will have on your character.

Whatever the case is, it seems likely that your character will have some sort of connection to a powerful Fade entity that possibly believes itself to be Andraste, and I think my character would try to remain on its good side.

"The real dangers of the fade are preconceptions. Careless trust, pride." So yeah my Quizzy isn't liable to be that trusting of any spirit, especially not one proclaiming to be Andraste. Oh so a spirit just decides to bless her with Andraste's powers? Why? What made her more deserving than any of the other men and women who died there? She'd be suspicious of that alone. I mean nothing wrong with believing the spirit but that's not in character for...any of my characters really. Even the semi religious ones.

Well as far as my Quizzy's concerned the good old don't start none won't be none is her rule to live by. So long as the spirit sticks to that they're golden.

While the course of the story may change my opinion on this, my mage inquisitor -being rather pro-Tevinter- will reach out and grab that position of power with both hands, using it to grind the Chantry into a fine powder and rebuilt it into something more fitting for the lords of magic.

My dwarf rogue on the other hand, sees the religious clusterfuck that comes with the title of herald, notes what happened to the previous herald and decides to keeps his hands clean off the title and do things his way.

The Maker has no business with dwarfs anyway.

My first character will be specially designed to rustle as many people as possible. A qunari mage Herald of Andraste would probably annoy Chantry supporters, so it sounds like a fun thing to do. :D

Actually, it would only annoy the Chantry supporters if you go against them.  I think if you were a Qunari, elf, or dwarf, then they'll just say it's typical or something like that.

I'd say a dwarf is an extra insult, since they are one of the few races not created by the Maker according to the Chantry. A dwarf inquisitor would signal to the people that even Andraste would rather pick one of the children of stone over the children of the Maker.

I hope to be able to live up to inquisitor, proper suppression of the Cathar's level atrocity, in the name of Korth, the Lady of the Skies and Hakon,  against the heresy of Andrastre ofc.

I'll definitely make myself a more zealous Inquisitor at some point. Most likely a Templar if we're having the option again.  ^_^

My first two Inquisitors will be dwarves.

Brilda is outright skeptical of all religions or spiritual philosophies. She has no animosity toward any peaceful practitioner but has a persistent grudge against mindless zealotry. The Inquisition and the titel of Herald completely rocks her world but she sees it as a chance to make a difference and to make things right in the world. So she will deny the title at every chance possible but will emphasize the need to band together now, to find unity regardless of what beliefs divide the people of Thedas.

Baerek is much less of a natural leader so the entire situation has him out of his depth. He also has no real beliefs though he is deeply interested in Dwarven culture, the Stone, and the Paragons/ancestors. So the title kind of horrifies him and he vehemently denies that he is in any way related to the Maker, Andraste, or the Chantry.

This is all dependent on what dialogue options are available but I'm sure the writers made such a strong choice (forcing your character to deal with the title) with the thought in mind that it would make for great dramatic tension, whether your character loved the title or hated it.

I'd much prefer burn the chantry to the ground. I will not embrace the title Herald of Andraste (holds back vomit)

So sick of being pidgeon-holed into a Chantry centric viewpoint.

@Lordheydrich:  You tell 'em!

My Warden was SO Andrastian it made me disgusted how Andrastian.  I got physically sick, it made me so sick how it was forced on me.

Then Hawke, my totally secular existence!  Every other word out of Hawke's mouth was "Andraste" or "Maker" - totally a one way ticket to Gross-ville.  Can't believe I didn't get to blow up the Chantry myself - that's just how Bioware likes to force you into that disgusting Andrastianism.  I need to drink lots of Vodka before I get so mad.

My inquisitor will do his best to live up to the high ideals that are at the core of the legends of Andraste because it is the right and proper thing to...and then he'll use his title to pick up chicks. >.>

@Lordheydrich:  Sarcasm does nobody any credit.

We've also never had to have an Andrastian viewpoint and there is no indication that the Inquisitor will have to either.

So what's making you sick... is your own inner malice.

Given the inclusion of the Dalish, Dwarven, and Vashoth racial options for the main character, I think we'll have an opportunity to take a bit of a reprieve from the Andrastian human-centric point of view that tends to dominate the series.

Weekes also said that there were options to satisfy players who created either a religiously Andrastian or atheist character, so it's possible the Inquisitor won't have to embrace the 'Herald of Andraste' title.

Planning dalish as my first inquisitor, so being the Herald of Andraste will be moist lulz inducing. I imagine the elf  walking around with a near-permanent smirk and trying to suppress a giggle every time someone calls them that. Depending on how far it goes, they might even start believing the hype a develop a god-complex.

Well, my dwarf would really run with it - given the chance. Those Andrastians better practice their grovelling.  :P

For history's sake. Jesus wasn't black or white. He was a Middle-Eastern Jew. A Sephardic Jew. And Egyptians were Copts. The ethno-religious groups survive today.

Though, Sephardic Jews range from whiter to more Arabic/Semitic appearances to be fair.

My first inquisitor will find the idea that she's the herald of a religious icon absolutely hilarious, because Andraste must be absolutely desperate to pick a nonreligious amoral rogue for a herald. That being said, she'll be prepared to play up to the title if and when it suits her.
I will attempt to play a properly religious character at some point, but it's not my idea of fun.

My initial reaction to the whole Herald of Andraste thing was, and remains, whatever.  If it helps me, I'm all for it.  If it's a drawback, I can lessen it's impact.  I'm not terribly religious, or even spiritual, TBH, but as long as what people believe in doesn't hurt someone else, it's not something I'm going to obsess over.  There are groups that are going to look sideways at my Dalish inquisitor, or my Qunari one, and they might need a bit of special handling, but I'm not out to spread the faith, I'm there to do a job.  Some companions or advisers might feel very strongly about a certain faith, and if they do, I will go out of my way not to offend them if I want them to hang around.  I don't think that will mean agreeing to spread the Chant or Qun, though.  It will probably be more along the lines of respectful disagreement.  This whole bit of "My God's better than your God" makes for a really depressing game.

Now why couldn't I have said it so succinctly.  Hat's off to you.
