If true, the Gauntlet spirits are all wrong, since they claim that she was totally enraptured with the Maker and starved large portions of the Imperium to death.

I'm fairly sure that those aren't the actual people they represent themselves as. Bear in mind that Jowan and Shianni can appear despite not being dead, and that there's no real reason for the real Vasilia to be there at all according to all we know of her. (Most of that from Vasilia herself, which is weird.) So, since they probably weren't the actual witnesses, I'm going to not really take their word as read. (Though I'm basing my original comment on the Codex, and the people who wrote that weren't there to see her either. So maybe what I should say is that someone who takes the line SgtSteel is is a better follower of Andraste as the Chantry preaches her than the Chantry is, rather than saying that SgtSteel follows Andraste better than the Chantry does.)

I don't think the Gauntlet spirits were accurate either, but the larger point I was trying to make is that claiming that Andraste was really "for" compassion over zeal doesn't really hold up any more than claiming the opposite. We don't really know the real Andraste; we don't even know her character class. Anyone making a definite claim about Andraste's life, in the absence of proof, is simply trying to use her image to bolster their own viewpoints. This is also extremely common when talking about RL religion.

Again, probably true.

I always thought they were simply fade spirits, drawn into the mortal realm by the ridiculous amounts of lyrium in the temple and taking form inspired by the dreams of its worshippers. With said worshippers having revered the Chantry and its teachings for a long, long time, the spirits took the words used for their tests from the dreams of those mortals.

I think the gauntlest spirits were accurate, but not the real deal
